<![CDATA[We are a special-needs rescue group, taking in injured, neglected, abused, and 'last chance' (scheduled for euthanasia) animals. These pups and kitties are brought to our clinic in Marietta, where they receive any medical care they may need. Once they have been treated and are ready to be adopted, we take them to adoption sites on the weekends, where we help them find their forever homes. Although we try to find foster homes for our pups and kitties, we do not have a facility, as of yet, so many of them end up living at the clinic. Unfortunately, because of limited space and limited staffing, they do not get the playtime or social time they need. So, while our rescues are at the adoption sites, volunteers are needed to help walk, exercise and play with them, giving them that special lovin' time and a chance to run and stretch their legs. The more exercise and social-time the pups have, the more adoptable they become! And, for those who are afraid of dogs, or are cat-lovers, we also have cats at our adoption sites. Volunteers with cat experience/expertise are more than welcome to come and spend time with the cats, playing with them and helping them find their forever homes. On Saturdays we hold adoptions from 11:30-4:30 at: - Perimeter Petsmart: 128 Perimeter Center West, Atlanta - Smyrna Petsmart: 2540 Cumberland Blvd, Smyrna On Sundays we hold adoptions from 12:00-5:00 at - Perimeter Petsmart: 128 Perimeter Center West, Atlanta - Smyrna Petsmart: 2540 Cumberland Blvd, Smyrna Below is a brief synopsis of adoption days so you have a basic understanding of what goes on; and then below that are the volunteer tasks/times. Adoption days go something like this: We start out at the clinic walking and loading the dogs and cats into our vans and volunteer's cars/trucks (if needed) for transport to the sites. Once at the sites we unload the vans, and walk, exercise, and play with the dogs, and market all the animals to find them their forever homes. We then load them back into the vans to go back to the clinic. Back up at the clinic, they are walked again after unloading from the van, and are then put up for the night, making sure there are blankets/towels, and food and water in their kennels. Following are the volunteer tasks/times for adoption days; you may volunteer for whatever, and as much, as you want to do: Walking/Loading at Clinic prior to Adoptions: Taking dogs on short walk and/or setting up crates in the vans, then loading the animals into vans for transport to the sites. Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30; Sunday from 10:00 to 11:00. Transport to Site from Clinic: Driving one of the vans (or your own vehicle, if possible, if needed) to an adoption site. Saturday from 10:30 to 11:00; Sunday from 11:00 to 11:30. Site Setup: Preparing the site for the arrival of the animals, including setting up crates and tables, hanging banners and putting out adoption signs, and placing water, treats and toys into each crate. Saturday at 10:30; Sunday at 11:00. Site Volunteer: Walking, exercising, walking, socializing, walking, exercising, and playing with the dogs (rotating amongst the dogs to ensure they have fun - "Wear them Out!"), and/or overseeing safety/monitoring and playing with the cats; marketing all the animals; and answering questions for potential adopters. After end of adoptions, assisting with break-down of site (taking dogs on a short walk, holding dogs while crates are reloaded into vans; cleaning up and putting away supplies into vans and/or that remain at site). Saturday from 11:00 to approx 4:30/5:00; Sunday from 11:30 to approx 5:00/5:30. Transport to Clinic from Site: Driving one of the vans (or your own vehicle, if possible, if needed) back to the clinic. Saturday approx 4:30/5:00 to 5:00/5:30; Sunday approx 5:00/5:30 to 5:30/6:00. Clinic Setup: Ensuring kennels have food, water and blankets/towels prior to arrival of animals. Saturday approx 4:30 to 5:30; Sunday approx 5:00 to 6:00. Unloading/Walking at Clinic after Adoptions: Taking the dogs on one last walk prior to putting to bed for the night; preparing vans for adoptions the next day and/or putting away all crates/supplies from area. Saturday approx 5:00/5:30 to 6:00/6:30; Sunday approx 5:30/6:00 to 6:30/7:00. There are also volunteering opportunities if you have free time during the week; we need dog-walkers for the dogs that live at the clinic. At the clinic, the pups get only two or three 'potty' breaks a day out of their kennels, so volunteers are needed to spend quality/social time with each dog. This helps them learn to interact with people; helps them learn to walk on leashes; and ultimately helps them behave better at adoptions and get adopted quicker. This can be done on your schedule, sometimes during the day, but usually in the early evening so they get a break before sleeping for the night. Again, for those who prefer cats, we can usually find an empty exam room where you can take a cat and play with it for awhile. We are in the process of planning our own shelter/facility and are raising the money to fund that project, and we are also always in need of leashes, collars, toys, beds, blankets, and towels (via collecting direct donations, or cash donations). Therefore less income was coming in to the home. My wife works as a waitress so she mainly relied on tips. We were struggling like a lot of families out there. But I never thought she'd leave me due to the stress and pressure. I have an idea that she was having an affair but was never able to prove it. She left me with all of the responsiblities of our children and walked away. Know I know how some single moms feel that is put in this position. I had an interview last week for a really good job and I got the job. I start my new job on Monday. My first pay check will be in about 2 or 3 weeks. However, we are very low on food and the bills are about to be shut off. If anyone out there can help in any way, please help me. She said she wanted a divorce , we have children also. I was crushed but have tried to move on. I miss my family so much. I know a lot of people because I have lived in the same place all my life , But I dont have a lot of people I call friends. I am the only child. I am not close to my extended family. Basically I have gotten into a place where I am all alone. I have turned to drinking alcohol because it seems to numb the pain and for a short period of time take my problems away. I have never been or felt this low in my life before. My fear all my life , was that I would grow old and be alone. My worst fear seems to be coming true. The only people that ever call me anymore just want something from me. No one ever calls just because , or just to say hello. I am so drained in every way I dont know where to turn. I have been turning to God but it seems he is not listening to my prayers anymore. For the last several months I have been thinking of taking my own life. My mom and dad gave me the 250.00 that i do have so far to save towards My replacement . im not working right now considering im a fulltime student but ill be applying for another job this week i have a couple of interviews for next week so im keeping my fingers crossed. if there is anything that anyone would be willing to share wether its little or small will be a blessing or just simple advice or words of encouragement , anything postive and uplifting will do at this time.
