I'm an experienced and patient tutor. I have a BA in math and a BS in physics, so I know the subjects well. I've been working as a tutor officially for a year and a half, but I've also been helping friends and family for years. I can tutor high school students as well as college.

I work hard to help my students understand the subject at hand by ascertaining exactly where the knowledge gaps lie. I want you to understand and actually learn. References are available upon request. I currently live in San Marcos, though I'll be moving to Austin since I am an engineering major at UT. I can meet you for tutoring, but depending on the distance, I may ask for a little gas money.

As for my rates, I nominally ask for $25/hr, but I understand that not everyone can afford that.
I have created a new concept in Art Class/Lessons that is an improvement to traditional classes and lessons. The lessons are taught in a classroom at the Northwest Hobby Lobby on 183 and Lakecreek Parkway near 620. At 13729 Research Blvd. Ste 500 (Next to Steinmart in the shopping center with Alamo Drafthouse) They are every Saturday 1-3pm (except for major holiday weekends - the weekend of Easter, Memorial Day Weekend, the 4th of July if it is on Fri-Mon, Labor Day weekend, Thanksgiving weekend, the weekend closest to Christmas).

Because you are on your own self-paced course, coming to the meetings is now more flexible. You pay $56 for 4 two hour lessons ($7 per hour) and have 8 weeks to use the all of the 4 lessons. (If your job or something else requires you to gone on Saturdays, I can extend the 8 weeks) This is like private art lessons but much more affordable. (I charge $30 per hour for completely private lessons at your convenience if you prefer.) You will continue on the same project even if you miss several meetings. You will get individual attention over a dozen times per meeting as I continuously help my students in rotation. The rest of the time you paint or draw your project.

You can take one of the four mediums offered: drawing, watercolor, oil or acrylic with out concerning yourself if a class is going to make and start. You can change mediums at any time. In a traditional class all the students are taught the same medium at the same time. The number of students at the meetings varies due to the flexibility and is averaging 12 for the last 3 months.

Start when you want. You can start at the next meeting on Saturday at 1-3pm. No waiting for the class to make and/or start.

The attendance cards that you get when you pay for the lessons are transferable. So you can sell or give away the lessons to someone else.

No long term commitment. Only 4 weeks at a time. You renew to learn more.

Check it out. You are cordially invited to see how this all works without obligation. Just drop in sometime between 1-3 pm on Saturdays. You don't even need any reservations to take a look. You may come and watch my students and myself as they learn art. No reservation required. Some are framing and selling their work. I teach mature 7 years old and up (8 years for painting).

My teaching method is using projects that gradually bring the beginning student into the skill levels of a near professional. Using a painting or a photograph as a source, I teach the student to reproduce as exactly as possible in their medium. I teach all the mechanics and techniques (how to use the brush, how to mix color, color wheel and color theory, and the rest of the mechanics of painting and drawing.) I also teach portraits and figure painting using photographs (These are advanced projects for more experienced artists). I am also a commission portrait artist.
My students that have been with me for years still learn several things each class. Art supplies are $15 to $79 depending on the medium. Except for canvas and paper the paints and brushes will generally last for 3-7 years. The beginning projects are usually 6"X9". I have over 150 projects. The advanced projects are 20"X24" More information at http://www.marketingdesignsolutions.net/artlessons/information.htm

(Some finished projects are available online - To view what my students and myself have created, go to http://www.marketingdesignsolutions.net/artlessons/gallery.htm

Gift Certificates Available ($56 for 4 two hours lessons)

You don't need talent to begin with. "Steve has the three most important qualities you could want in a music teacher: The theoretical knowledge of the student of music; the practical experience of the professional working musician; and, perhaps most importantly, the understanding and ability of a natural educator. Not just a great music teacher, but a great teacher." - Dan C.
Hi folks!
If you are serious about learning to play guitar or bass, why don't you take lessons with one of the most experienced, dedicated, and fun guitar teachers in Austin?
“Steven is an excellent guitar teacher – he truly rocks. He has a very strong understanding of the instrument as well as a very strong ability to adapt to your style in order to help you achieve your guitar goals. I’ve taken lessons from a few different teachers and, by far, Steven has helped me to increase the breadth of my playing quickly and more precisely than anyone else I’ve ever worked with.”
- Amos S.
I am a guitar and bass instructor who has been teaching for over 15 years. I have taught hundreds of students, and have gotten great results on a consistent basis. I have two music degrees and one education degree, and have a developed teaching philosophy, as well as a commitment to being the best teacher I can be.
“I've found my passion for guitar again after being “stuck” for years, unable to figure out how to keep improving – I'm enjoying guitar like when I first started.”
- Chris B.

In addition to being a guitar and bass teacher, I am a performer in Austin-based Blues and Jazz bands. I am also a singer-songwriter, and enjoy teaching songwriting and composition to students (if desired)
"Steve is an extremely knowledgeable and friendly teacher. He helped me learn a variety of songs, everything from children's songs to country ballads to Mexican folk music. He also taught me the basics and gave me exercises and strategies to increase my flexibility and range. I would highly recommend him to anyone interested in learning to play the guitar.
- Janna J.
Unfortunately, many "guitar teachers", while often good musicians, have little idea of how to teach subjects such technique, theory, or rhythm. Others attempt to foist their musical tastes upon their students, forgetting that their job to be an enabler, not a pundit for their favorite artists or styles.
"Steve Baranowski is a great guitar teacher because he helps his students develop their own distinct abilities--not those of his own"
- Adam S.
I believe that being a great teacher is a rare chemistry of ability, education, insight, patience, experience, honesty, real-world knowledge, good humor, and love of teaching. I can bring these things to you.
“Steve makes learning the guitar fun. You’re guaranteed to laugh or at least smile a few times every lesson while you improve your knowledge of the guitar”
- Ben H.
I also believe that the job of a teacher is to create freedom for a student; a freedom, earned through practice, to take the music he or she plays in any direction desired, and to become a self-sufficient artist with a real identity. In other words, to help you be the musician you really want to be.
“Steve blends expert musicianship and an eclectic sense of humor to create a teaching style all his own. Backed by an immense knowledge of all things music, he caters to both the beginners and experts, whether they wish to play blues or punk, jazz or straight up rock n roll.”
- Chris H.
All levels welcome! Ages 9-90!
“I went to several guitar teachers before finding Steve, who was way better than the others; a great teacher who is proficient in anything I ask him about.”
- Chris B.
I teach Rock/Pop, Blues, Jazz, Folk, Liturgical, Theory, Songwriting...even Metal!
“I have always been reluctant to take guitar lessons because of my strange interests in music, but with Steve I could ask any weird music question and get an informed and explicit answer instantly! I have asked questions on old video game music, prog rock, jazz, heavy metal, and now he's transcribed a Vivaldi violin solo for me!
- Lance A.
From Jazz soloing to finger picking, learning the fretboard to learning to shred, or simply getting started on the right foot (a specialty of mine), I can give you the tools you need to take guitar as far as you want to go, and make sure you are going in the direction YOU want to go in.
"One thing I like about Steve is that he rolls with you, whichever musical direction interests you."
- R.W.

If this sounds like what you might be looking for, respond to this ad, or call me at (512)963-3285.
“He's got tons of experience, the lessons are fun, and it's a bargain. What more do you want?”
- Chris B.
Lessons are $20.00 for a half-hour, and $30.00 for an hour.
I am located in South Austin, just West of I35, and 10 minutes South of Downtown.
I'd love to hear from you!
“The best money I ever spent!”
- A. I have availability on M, Wed, and Thurs evenings.
from my website (www.briancassidymusic.com):

Individual Instruction
There are many guitar and piano teachers offering lessons in Austin. I think what sets me apart is that not only am I a touring professional (toured US/Europe/Australia for last 3+ years as lead-guitarist and multi-instrumentalist with Okkervil River) but I am also a trained and successful teacher - and I love teaching! I really pride myself on my ability to teach people to be confident and competent musicians. I have a Master's degree in Music and Human Learning and am certified to teach music in Texas public schools. I also teach pedal steel, banjo, and mandolin.

My approach has proven to be very successful. One of my students took lessons from another successful teacher in Austin for a year, and he told me that he learned more from me in one lesson than he did in a year with this other teacher. Another one of my students has taken regular lessons from me for 8 years. Another former student now performs regularly at premier venues such as the Cactus Cafe and Antone's. I have many other student and parent references available on request.

I charge $40 per hour or $22.50 per half hour. If you pay for 4 lessons in advance (to be taken in a 4-week period), lesson rates are discounted to $35 per hour or $20 per half hour. All lessons are taught from my home studio just north of Hyde Park. My home studio was built in 2006/07 with the specific intent of providing a comfortable place to teach music.

For detailed information on lessons, my bio, discography, tour dates, rates, etc., please visit:
www.briancassidymusic.com

I am an instructor at Van Wilks Guitarland Studios in South Austin. I currently have several slots available on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. I have played guitar in Austin for over ten years with Van and many other local musicians. I have been teaching for almost three years at Guitarland. One thing we do not teach is "heavy" Music Theory. We do more of the "How To" than the "Why" method. Experience has shown us that students learn faster and have more fun if they are working on actual songs they are familiar with. We teach all the chords and technique they must know in the context of songs they like and can sing along with. Slots are paid for on a monthly basis. We offer a half hour to an hour class once a week, 4 to 5 times a month. The rates are based on how many classes can be taught per month. Usually there are 4 but occasionally there are 5 classes in a month. Payment is due at the first of every month to guarantee your slot. The rates are $115.00 for a 4 week month and $143.75 for a 5 class month. No pay as you go/partial payments please. All classes must be paid in full for each month. Each student is allowed one make-up every two months at the teachers discretion. We will always try to work with you on scheduling conflicts the best we can. Please contact me if interested.

Fender Strat/Tele, Gibson, Ephiphone, Yamaha, Takamine, Taylor, Martin and more.

So you bought that guitar and started to learn how to play it. Now the strings are getting rusty, the neck is looking gunky and boy I wish the action was a little lower and why can't I get it to tune up even when I use my tuner.
