We are a group of MFA grads and local Baltimore artists filming a large, scale cross-country documentary project. The ultimate goal for this documentary is to celebrate contemporary art and showcase undiscovered talent, while bringing attention to the fact that art is no longer a centralized commodity in places like New York City or Los Angeles. Contemporary art can be found all across our country in multiple art communities that all feed off one another and work together to make a cohesive, American, artistic landscape. Adam specifically pulls from obscure and esoteric symbolism, both preexisting and artist created, in an attempt to fashion a new mythology for the trials and tribulations of the spirit. Even the layering and under paintings of his work carry intense meanings that are purposefully re-integrated into the painting hiding their original intent but influencing the paintings end.

The Divided Kingdom, his most recent work, at Dionysus continues to deals with the human species loss of identity and balance in relation to our existence as a highly evolved animal in the presence of the convoluted, technologically advanced, and yet spiritually devoid reality we have fashioned for ourselves.

This Exhibit will be showing until March 17th 2010

It's bad enough that you think we want to make your album art for out portfolio. We don't. We want to make what we want to make. That's why it's art. There are designers and illustrators that want to make your album art and they want to get paid a decent sum so that you may continue to use their work to promote yourself and represent yourself for years to come. We went to school. We earned our degrees. We possess skills and natural talent absent in the majority of the population, a degree of creativity unmatched by our peers, held in high esteem by those who cannot fathom the inner workings of Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, or dare I say it, InDesign. We were the best of our year, the true creatives, who pushed our classmates’ and professors’ views on what was acceptable design or illustration, film or photography, painting or printmaking. We create work that is so moving, sublime, disgusting, intriguing, challenging, or conceptual that we earned the titles of our fields.

But that was school, and this is reality. A reality that cannot function without us, but chooses to deride us. A reality that desperately needs this illustration by 5pm and ready to send to the printer but that can’t pay us more that 25$. A reality that needs a junior designer with a four-year degree in exchange for the experience of slave, unpaid labor.

We’re tired of this shit.

We don’t have insurance. We don’t have job security. Most of us don’t even have legal copies of the software you need us to use because you won’t pay us when we’ve worked for you. In your mind, we don’t even have legal rights, because “anyone could do it”. No, they can’t, and you know it. And we’re angry.

We aren’t going to be passive observers anymore. We will flag your posts, email you, and warn others not to apply to your position. We won’t give in, we will remain vigilant.
Hear Our Voices in Our 1st Book "Be the Light"
Call for Stories and Visuals for a Book

“Be the Light”

The Baltimore Do-Gooders group has decided on its first city-wide project creating a book with our voices. The theme is around “light” which is hope, enlightenment, as well as shining light in the darkness, hence being truthful about some of the challenges in our city.

Reasoning for this as our theme and the project:
1. Bring people from different walks of life together to have their voices and stories heard and shared together
2. Creates a greater awareness of different stories, organizations, and ideas, which may lead to other positive outcomes
3. Your Story can NOT be argued. We seem to live in a fact based society, where people are realizing facts, numbers can be altered. People are not responding to numbers, we need the honest stories. We need some heart.

Submission Criteria:
Email submission by March 12, 2010 to baltimoredogooders@gmail.com.

First Name (last name is optional for adults)
Age
Zip
Race and Ethnicity (optional)
Religion (optional, religious beliefs, less than two sentences)

For all the parts, you can write just one section from a word to a paragraph to a page or two. All are optional!

Part One: The Light
a. What does be the Light mean to you?
b. Please Share Your Story must be related to your experience in Baltimore.
Has there been someone or an organization that has helped you see the light at the end of the tunnel? This could also be your story of discovery your stronger self.
c. Baltimore's Daily Heroes- stories on individuals in Baltimore that are daily being hope to others. If you use someone's whole name, please get their permission. There are some things I do that are positive that I do not wish other people know, so respect that; you can even ask what pretend name they want.

Part Two: Barriers to Being the Light
Live the life you have imagined (Thoreau) is hard to do when...
a. What barriers are there to being the light?
Feel free to share a personal story.

Part Three: Risk Factors and Protective Factors
This will be an anonymous list of our Risk Factors (things that can lead to negative feelings and behaviors)a Protective Factors (things that help us live a happier life).

Part Four: How to Be the Light
What has helped you or others overcome the barriers and thrive?
What would help you and us Be the Light?
(This can be people's ideas on the whole spectrum, personal thoughts to change in policy to more programs, opportunities).

Please email by March 1st if you plan on submitting, THANKS! baltimoredogooders@gmail.com

Our first go around is looking for written submissions on any or all of the chapters; however, if you have art (photo, drawing, etc) that you want to attach to the document we can take that in as well. You can work with friends (if you are a writer and have a friend that is photography), just make sure proper credit is give.

Also, we want different stories on different barriers and strategies, so stay posted on the Facebook and website on what is covered. First cutoff is March 12, 2010. Email submission to baltimoredogooders@gmail.com.

Our second go will have the first draft of the stories, and then visual artist can read the stories and see if they have a visual that would look nice with the story. For example, if someone talks about homeless a photo of a block of boarded up houses would compliment that story. If there is enough photos and/or submissions on the first go, this may not happen.

Second cutoff is to be determined, approximately two weeks after the first draft is posted online. Again, the 3/12th is the closing date, but if we still need more to fill a book; we will reopen.

Again email submission to baltimoredogooders@gmail.com.

Check out www.baltimoredogooders.com for updates or the Facebook event: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/event.php?eid=495462630612&ref=mf
I need an artist to do my new logo so I can rebrand my business. I am working on a low budget. The logo should be fairly simple as it is a tree with roots at the bottom, in front of my name. I can do a sketch, but I need an artist to finish the product. I can pay 50 to 75.00. I know its not much, but with rebranding It's going to get real expensive for new signs and letterheads and everything else. My business Is growing so this should be a good opportunity as anyone ask who did your logo I will pass you along. The logo must be done freehand because my current logo is from clipart. I also dont want any templates. Call me and we can get rolling 410-686-7779 John or email me. I'm looking for someone with talent and no commercial interest need apply because you will not be used for this project. Thanks!!!
