A small group of friends will be Biking Across AMerica (BAAM) to raise money for Blood:Water Mission. Blood:Water is a group dedicated to digging wells and raising health clinics in Central-Eastern Africa. A common statistic they use is: $1 provides clean water to 1 person for a year. Obviously some high return on investment. We are planning on following the Northern Tier Route as detailed by Adventure Cycling. We will be working in coordination with a non-profit that was recently created by UMBC Alumni, Adventures for the Cure (AFC). You might have seen their documentary, The Doc, on their trek across the country to raise awareness of diabetes and to fundraise for a Kenyan group meeting the needs of disabled children. We have decided to have a support car to improve advocacy and fundraising. For some shock-and-awe factor, we want to design advertisements/logos for our car! Hopefully it could be a sweet logo that speaks to the causes we are raising money towards, the route we are taking, our background, and their *hopeful* sponsors. Eventually they will have a website/e-mail for fundraising, so a place for contact info would be great. The support vehicle will be a 2003 Subaru Forester, dimensions can be provided later if necessary. Blood:Water has many graphics available on their website that you are free to use in compiling the mural. AFC has a logo on their site, but not many other useful resources. After designing the mural/logo, it will either be painted onto the car or made into large magnets/stickers.

Let me know of any questions you have. Please provide examples of your previous work and a cost for the graphic design portion of this project.

HI there, I am competing in a pole dance competition in April and I am in the process of choosing a song. Now, I am a huge HUGE fan of the Rolling Stones, but its a little hard to do a full routine for a competition to them, so I was wondering if some awesome mixer person could mix the orginal "Start Me Up" by the Stones with the electronic Brooklyn Vampires version of the same song. I only have 4 minutes to perform, so that is the time limit.

But yeah, if you are creative and could splice the two songs into an entertaining, awesome peice, I would be willing to pay for it. $40 to the right song.

Now ideally, you would make several differnt versions that I could choose between and then send them to me via my email, then I could pick one out and pay you the $40 after I choose. But if you make one amazing mix, then I wont need variety :) I swear, I wont just take your edit and run....and you will have my email adress anyways to track me down. I will also throw in a ticket to the event on April 15th if you are interested in watching 12 ladies compete at Lucky's Bar, Powerplant in Baltimore.

So if you are interested, hit me up via the provided email ASAP!! I need to start practicing.

Wow, most non-profits only want you to work for free or "donate" your services. This one wants you to sell the images you shoot and then requires you to donate 10-20 percent of anything you earn.
Is the same thing required of other vendors whose services this non-profit utilizes?

Many non-profits do some great work, but non-profit organizations actually do make money. But, unlike a for profit company/ organization, that money then gets invested to support or fund a specific cause or issue. Non-profits, like for profit companies, have operating expenses that need to be met. Part of that is marketing/ promotion. I'm not saying don't donate your time/ services, but no information is given about who exactly this non-profit is or what they do, nor, what the "community event" is.

Plus, it's a bit unclear as to what exactly the requirements are of the job. Portraits? Covering the event? Each requires a different skill set and different equipment.

And again, I've been hired to do many different jobs. IN none of them has it been a requirement that I donate anything back to the organization that hired me.

And to even be considered I have to give two different sets of references? Isn't one set of references sufficient?

ORIGINAL POSTING:

Photographer needed (Randallstown, MD)
Date: 2010-02-24, 7:41PM EST
Reply to: gigs-rdctj-1616546797@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

I am looking to hire a photographer for a community event to take pictures throughout the day and sell them for a reasonable fee. I just got a loft in downtown Fells point. In the bottom floor of the loft I have this massive off white wall that I would like to have painted. I originally thought I would like a graffiti artist to mural on this wall, but I am sincerely concerned about quality of work.

I am not looking for someone to TAG my wall. I am looking for a beautiful mural that is done with detail. The wall is probably 14-15 feet high and 12-14 feet wide. I was hoping to somehow have it baltimore themed and maybe when I find the right artist we can kick around some ideas. I am willing to pay the right amount of money for the right artist. I am a designer myself and I understand the cost of quality art.

If you want any response from me make sure a photo or two are attached to the email of examples of your work.

I've got the cash, if you've got the skill.

So I have been thinking - and this is not a sure thing - that I wanted to start a t-shirt printing business. Yes there are a ton of them but the new digital printing to t-shirts using chromatic inks is pretty cool, as is basic screen printing. I have lots of experience in sales, marketing and digital photography and work full time as a teacher. Was looking for someone with design aspirations or talent who would consider partnering up and trying to make a little xtra money. This is definately not a full -time proposition and it costs some money to get into. Maybe it will have to be a pay you per design kind of thing.. I don't know. Still early in the process and trying to get ducks lined up to see if it is feasable or not.

If you have an interest, sugguestions, or just want to tell me to f*** off shoot me an email. I need to a photographer for a small photoshoot. It should be no longer then 30 minutes to an hour. I'm just looking to get about 2 to 3 pictures from the shoot. Pay is negotiable. Contact me for more details.
The shoot will be approximately three hours and ideally outdoors or semi-outdoors, location to be determined. Leaning towards Clipper Mill. While many photographers want to try experimental things, I actually want to do a fairly bland shoot, think J Crew catalog. Especially with inexperienced models, basic shoots often produce better images I have found. If you happen to have experience, we can try other things once I get the basic shots. 2-3 outfit changes would be great, I will not provide costume but if you can dig in your closet for a few basic outfits (which we can discuss) we can make it work. Since it's cold out, fuzzy sweaters, furry coats, mittens, ear warmers, ski jackets... white with bright colored trim or other light colors for darker backgrounds, and darker clothing against the snow.. you get the idea. Props such as snowboards, skiis, shovels could also work. Contrasty items such as beach balls and umbrellas might be fun, but not the look I'm going for. Could be tried at a later date, I'm always open to creative ideas and collaboration.

Seeking two female models, or a male and female model (preferably who have worked together before), for a photo shoot this weekend.

Make Up Artists (MUAs), posing coaches, and possibly another photographer or two interested in joining for this shoot are welcome. Contact me to discuss.

This will be a trade-for-time/CD shoot, no monetary compensation either way. If we do early morning I'll provide coffee/tea/water. I will provide unedited images on CD within a week, one copy per participant, with limited usage rights for self-promotional use (comp cards, portfolios, 8x10s for agencies). Models, please respond with a head shot and full-body photo, preferably from a prior shoot if you have experience. MUAs, photogs, etc, please provide two sample images.

Hi, remember the poster pinup girls that every guy wanted to hang on his wall?

We are doing a test run for a startup model “pin up” type company. Are you really looking for a professional? Really? If so, then the compensation offered it NOT at all in line with the terms and requirements of the job as listed in the posting.

1. If the client wants to retain all rights to the images, that's fine, but the client should expect to pay accordingly for those rights. That usuallly means several thousand dollars. The reason for that is that I created the images, and by turning over all rights to the client, that means that I have no way of making additional income from those images.

And most clients don't need all rights to the images, which is one reason why rights to the images are licensed based on the use of the images. That way the client is only has to outlay the costs for the rights they do need. Additional rights can be licensed at any point should the needs change. Normally, rights are granted for the period of a year or two. And that can even be all rights for the images to be used in any media, for that period. But you will find few true professionals who will sign over all rights indefinetly for $250-$300. Actually, you'll find few who will do that for that amount for a period of one year.

2. Online portfolios/ photographer's Web sites are the top place that prospective clients look at a photographer's work. Most art directors/ editors/ art buyers etc., want to see an online portfolio before a formal face-to-face meeting. That's not saying that print portfolios are dead, they aren't, and they still have a place and a role, but the online Web site is imperative for a photgrapher. Therefore, it's usually the first place that a photographer is going to showcase portfolio-worthy work. Few professionals will agree to not using the work they created on their own Web site for an indefinite period of time.

3. Non-compete agreement? Compete against whom? Before a non-compete agreement is signed, there needs to be a bit more informatioin shared about who the client is and what the images will be used for. Most professional photographers are freelancers, meaning they don't work for one specific company. (Sure, they work for their phography business, but Jill Smith Photography isn't employed solely by XYZ Company.)So, by having the photographer sign a non-compete agreement, that means that they may effectively be cut of at the knees with being able to grow their business.

What that means is that if the non-compete agreement will hinder me with getting future work, I'm not going to sign it.

4. This is at least an all-day job. There is a lot o fmoving parts with getting something like this to run smoothly, on time and with professional results. There is more that goes into producing "magazine-quality photos" than just showing up and pushing the button. And, by having both indoor and outdoor set-ups that means moving lights around, and all sorts of other logistical things.

Then after all shooting is done, the photographer will then sit down and edit through the images. That also entails getting rid of dust spots if they are there, contrast adjustment, colour balance if need be, and a whole host of other things. And this is just the basics, that doens't even include the rampant amounts of retouching that seems to be the norm in many images of models etc. these days. For every hour shooting, that usually means an hour editing, on average. And each image is different and each image has to be done individually. That's part of what goes into getting professional results.

5. You're not only paying a professional for his/ her time, you're paying for his/ her experience, knowledge and skill set. While camera manufacturers and digital technologies may have many believe that it's point and shoot simple, it's really not. I'm not saying it's physics, but there is a skill set involved with producing professional results.

6. If the photos are to be featured in an "upscale" magazine, that usually means a few things. 1. If they are used as part of an ad placed in that magazine, those ad rates aren't cheap. 2. If the images are to be used to go with some sort of article, usually said publication will hire the photographer.

If the client can afford the high ad rates of an "upscale" magazine, they can afford to pay you, the photographer, the fair market rate for the work that you provide. Again, it's not something that just everybody can do.

So, again, are you really looking for a professional, or are you looking for just some person with a camera? Just for comparsion, the going rate for a photographer's assistant is about $250-$400 per day.

ORIGINAL POSTING:

Professional Photographer Needed for Modeling Shoot (Towson)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Date: 2010-02-15, 9:21AM EST
Reply to: gigs-kjvxw-1601400314@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Professional Photographer needed to work with amateur models for fashion shoot in March or April.
One to three outfits per model, one to two models per shoot.
We provide wardrobe, hair and makeup.
Indoor and Outdoor Shots, weather permitting.
All rights to photos retained by client.
Photos not allowed on your website for promotional purposes, okay for printed portfolio.
Non-compete agreement will be required.

Photo shoot to take place in March, and possibly another 3 times in 2010.
