To Arrive in Los Angeles MARCH 12-14 Highways and Larger Cities along the way: I-95: Baltimore MD, Washington DC, Richmond VA I-85: Raleigh, Durham, & Charlotte NC, Greenville SC, Atlanta GA I-20: Birmingham AL, Jackson MS, Shreveport LA, Dallas TX I-10: El Paso TX, Tucson & Phoenix AZ, San Bernardino & Los Angeles CA Fair Notice: This is NOT a tourist trip. I’m not planning to stop in these towns or to go off those highways for anything other than fuel, food, and cheap motel rooms. =No pets =No smoking =No weed =No Booze = Also, I’m not some hot young guy looking to have an adventure with you. I’m just a fat old phart with a spare seat in my little car and modest space for some SOFT luggage. My Goal: A pleasant someone to help keep me awake while I drive. As I’m open to a passenger for ALL or MOST or even just a PART of the trip… this is being cross-posted in the rideshare section of several cities en route. Whachu talking ‘bout Willis? 2800mi /60mph net =46 hours rolling /4 = 11.5 hours (average) per day. 60 mph Net Road Speed Formula: 70mph x 2.0 hrs = 140 miles : 120 minutes rest stop .2 hrs = 0 miles : 12 minutes 70mph x 2.0 hrs = 140 miles : 120 minutes fuel stop .4 hrs = 0 miles : 24 minutes (60 mph net) = 280 miles : 276 minutes In the east it’s harder to hold to 70mph; in the west it’s hard to stay under 80mph. It’s still more than easily done even without Neal Cassady inspired assistance. The theme song for this trip is more like “On the road again” than “Radar Love”. (Been drivin’ all night… hands wet on the wheel. Been there, done that) ** OK, Lets get started: I have made a “soft commitment” for an arrival date of March 15th. I have no need or plan to remain in Baltimore beyond Monday March 8. The travel plan described here allows for an arrival in LA on the 12th giving me a few days to poke around over that weekend. Maybe make a stop or two as well. Dunno. Also, it is still winter and weather happens. Flexibility is a GoodThing. Below is an overly obsessive detail of these very approximated goals. Take all with a large grain of salt and reply if it suits your timeframe and temperament. Day Two (est @Wed Mar 10):: I-20: Birmingham AL, Jackson & Vicksburg MS, Shreveport LA, Dallas TX West through Alabama, Missisippi and Louisiana (quickly!) then on to Dallas Texas. (= 780 miles; 13.0 hours) ET-D from Atlanta is 7AM EST ET-A in Dallas is 7 PM CST Second planned overnight stay. Day Three (est @Thur Mar 11):: I-20/I-10 west across west Texas into El Paso (= 635 miles; 10.6 hrs) ET-D from Dallas is 8 AM CST ET-A in El Paso is 5PM MST Third planned overnight stay. Day Four (est @Fri Mar 12):: I-10: Las Cruces NM, Tucson & Phoenix AZ, San Bernardino & LA CA Across the southwest desert into LA and I-5 (= 697 miles; 11.6hrs) ET-D from El Paso is 7AM MST ET-A in Los Angeles is 5PM PST Fourth planned overnight stay Day Five+ (est @Sat Mar 13):: I-10 to I-5/101 Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo (= 200 miles; 5 hrs) ET-D from Los Angeles is 8AM PST ET-A in SLO is 1PM PST My final destination is San Luis Obispo.
