The international exchange and cultural understanding is an important part of the formation for every human being, this project is born from this philosophy. Long Term Volunteers are needed to work in schools in different Mexican communities (one volunteer per school), helping with activities with the local youngsters and participating in activities promoting cultural exchange and learning. Volunteer work: Each volunteer will be a part of the school staff. He/she will be giving English and/or French classes to the students and possibly to local people of the town. The average age of the students is between 15 and 19 years old. The volunteer will also help to organize local groups of ecology or sports and run some activities for the people of the town, most of which oriented to develop positive activities for the local youngsters. The volunteer will be assisted by the teachers of the school. Please note that the detailed schedule of activities cannot be given to you at this time due to the long duration of the project. The activities must be agreed by you and the host of the project before you start working in the school. Also please have in mind that in Mexico the concept of time and organization is far more relaxed than in many other countries, so please be flexible. The hosting organization also runs projects for groups of international volunteers that stay in some communities for 20 days, participating in activities for the development of the town. If the community welcomes such a group of international volunteers, the long term volunteer will help by participating in the organization of the activities that the international group will do in the town. An orientation meeting about the project and Latin American culture will be given to all the volunteers. <![CDATA[My name is Chance Stockman. My work could be described as surrealistic portraits of bottom-of-the-barrel america. I try to convey, through dynamic texture, vivid color, and distinct characters my disgust for, and at the same time, wonderment at the people I see every day. People walking down the street, eating meals, and struggling to communicate with each other. I have been informed by a constant nomadic trek across this vast country of ours. I have found that, as Curtis Mayfield once said, "People are pretty much the same everywhere." My focus is, therefore not on people, but persons. That is to say, how the individuality of every human is washed out, watered down, and generalized to fit into this bland collectivist concept called "culture." Every life seems to be stripped down to one dimension in order to be easily swallowed by the "greater good." With my paintings, I want to celebrate and bask in the mystery of all individuals. The struggle against this pigeonholing of human beings is a theme that recurs often in my work. An ancillary goal of mine is to bring to the table an instantly relatable dynamic that I think is missing from the majority of fine art--a sense of humor. Too often fine art is shrouded, self-flagellating and pretentious. I use this sense of humor to try to relate more directly with the general public at a human level. Laughter is a potent and extremely effective communicator. As far as aesthetic is concerned, I subscribe to the idea that that beautiful and the grotesque are, more often than not, the very same. To get this concept across, I try to pull painting techniques from nearly every genre. Such as: abstract composition, surreal imagery, and energetic, impressionist brushstrokes. I am available for commissioned pieces as well. I can work from my head, from life, or from a photograph. I can do portraits that will make your mother cry. Thanks for your interest in real art. ]]>

Verona is a very famous city in the north east of Italy (do you remember Romeo & Juliet by Shakespeare???). It is a very tourist place with a long history and culture; rich of historical monuments, first of all the famous Arena (the ancient Roman theatre). Even though it is a great example of a fortified town, in fact the walls and the surrounding area is going to become a national park. Unfortunately, some parts of the area are still damaged and abandoned. International volunteers will be working on two different middle-term projects in this town: PARK OF THE WALLS: Verona is an exceptionally beautiful example of a fortified town. You can see evolution of a tradition through centuries (Universal Heritage protected by UNESCO). Verona's Walls is a complex set of different types of architecture. All this area is slowly becoming a Park. Unfortunately most part of it is just a huge relict, damaged and abandoned. ... VILLA BURI: Buri’s villa is situated at the centre of the Adige river’s bend and it’s a monumental palace, with a chapel, some cottages and a majestic landscape-garden, 30 hectares big, where a large part of it is planted with ancient and precious trees. In September 2001 the management of the villa was given to a non-profit group of associations which have created a project to use and renovate the structure. ... A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of people. Only a small inside group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the many. I believe in adequate defense at the coastline and nothing else. If a nation comes over here to fight, then we'll fight. The trouble with America is that when the dollar only earns 6 percent over here, then it gets restless and goes overseas to get 100 percent. Then the flag follows the dollar and the soldiers follow the flag. I wouldn't go to war again as I have done to protect some lousy investment of the bankers. There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket. There isn't a trick in the racketeering bag that the military gang is blind to. It has its "finger men" to point out enemies, its "muscle men" to destroy enemies, its "brain men" to plan war preparations, and a "Big Boss" Super-Nationalistic-Capitalism. It may seem odd for me, a military man to adopt such a comparison. Truthfulness compels me to. I spent thirty- three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country's most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General. And during that period, I spent most of my time being a high class muscle- man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the Bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I suspected I was just part of a racket at the time. Now I am sure of it. Like all the members of the military profession, I never had a thought of my own until I left the service. My mental faculties remained in suspended animation while I obeyed the orders of higher-ups. This is typical with everyone in the military service. I helped make Mexico, especially Tampico, safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefits of Wall Street. The record of racketeering is long. I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1909-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. In China I helped to see to it that Standard Oil went its way unmolested. During those years, I had, as the boys in the back room would say, a swell racket. Looking back on it, I feel that I could have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.]]>

It's bad enough that you are killing them, but what about the ones who don't die? What about their memories of their horrible life. WHat about all the pain they had to go through? I want to be my own little reality show and go for it – I’m thinking about joining the Lakeview YMCA. You can visit 3 times before you join. I think it would be so great to work out with someone, maybe take a yoga class, support one another in the trials of getting in shape, motivate. I’d love to actually go about 3 times a week. I take dance class at night four nights a week so I need to go during the day. Maybe later in the morning. I am between gigs right now so I want to do something while I can.
