My husband and are in need of housing in the Chicago area for 5 nights sometime between January and May, 2009. For use of your place for five nights, we are offering the use of our place in Baja California Sur Mexico, located near Cabo San Lucas for 1 week.

We own a vacation home immediately south of the small town of Los Barriles located 104 kilometers north of Cabo San Lucas Mexico, and about 60 kilometers north of the San Jose del Cabo (SJD) airport. The house has a separate studio apartment located above the garage. The apartment is what I would like to swap. It is 100 yards off the beach, sleeps 4, and has a beautiful view of the Sea of Cortez. The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, a television, vcr/dvd player and even a picnic basket for that impromptu picnic at the beautiful secluded beach. The private staircase leads to an outside roof top dining room with spectacular panoramic views. The roof top patio is approximately 2000 square feet and has the table as well as chairs for lounging and watching the waves during the day and stars at night.

Los Barriles has several nice restaurants, taco stands, a couple grocery stores, and a gas station. The south Baja is very popular for deep-sea fishing. In Los Barriles, you can rent a boat for the day, and go catch a 300 lbs marlin. Los Barriles also has several places that rent 4-wheelers. Rent a 4-wheeler, and explore miles and miles of mountainous trails around the city. This area is also very popular for water sports like windsurfing & kite surfing. A short distance south of the house is a coral reef that is a lot of fun to go snorkeling in. Los Barriles also has a driving range.

This area is off the beaten path. Avoid the crowds of tourists in Cabo. Los Barriles is laid back, and most of the time you can have the beach all to yourself. At nighttime, you can retire to the rooftop patio for a glass of wine or margarita, and see millions of stars. Truly breathtaking.

For anyone not familiar with Austin… it’s a little liberal oasis in the heart of the Texas hill country. We have maybe 2-3 freezes in the winter and have been known to wakeboard on Lake Austin on Christmas Day. Live music, great food, art and quirky Austin hangouts can be found as easily as closing your eyes and pointing a finger in any direction.

My house: 2400 sq foot, 3 bedroom/ 3 bath open ranch style built in 1949 and expanded in the early 80’s. Great layout for quiet and privacy for the master suite. When the wind comes from over the lake you can see the shift in the wind and you are aware of the change in temperature that may be coming. When you see certain ducks come on the lake then you know winter is really coming - they aren't there yet. The lake is beautiful and our family had many hours of fun swimming and boating. Motor size is limited to 25 hp so you don't have the bother of loud motors like you do on the Fox River. The pontoon boat, canoe and small life boat goes to you with the sale of the house. Build a fire in the backyard firepit and enjoy roasting marshmellows with your friends. If you have teenagers then someone will always get thrown in the lake when you have them over. In the winter we walk out on the lake and talk to the folks who go ice fishing. We've had years of fun at this house. It's perfect for a family of four but two families with 11 kids lived there before we did. Across the street is a large field and acres of open land.
