This class offers the students an opportunity to play music with others, develop their own sound, and at the end of the class, an opportunity to perform for an audience. The winter semester class is looking for a location to perform their full set, approximately 15 – 20 classic rock songs, as a warm-up for the scheduled performance. We are looking for a stage that can accommodate nine band members (5 guitars, 3 vocalists, and 1 drummer) and preferably has a PA, though we can provide one if necessary. We also would like a location that would provide plenty of seating so that friends and family can be invited to listen to the performance. We are not seeking payment for the performance, just the opportunity to gain the stage experience, have some fun, and enjoy some cool tunes. I'm a San Francisco Bay Area producer/engineer reaching out on Craigslist to work with competent metal bands that could use specialized mixing or mastering. Modern metal mixing as well as mastering can not be performed by the local studio guy as you know. It takes specific training to produce mixes that are comparable to the top metal bands out there. There are many ways I work with bands. One is for them to record at their local studio and then send me the files to mix and master. Sometimes bands have already recorded and mixed but the mix their engineer deliverd was sub-par. I fix those mixes. We are jamming a short list of songs as we try to find the final members of the group with the best mix of chemistry and talent. The 7 songs below are on the short list for auditions. <![CDATA[As the title states, I am looking for a lead guitar player for a classic rock cover band (with some emphasis on oldies and the blues) here in the City of Lorain. We are a bunch of "older" musicians in the 40+ range who have gotten together because we simply love playing music! We have lead vocals, bass, drums and me on rhythm guitar. Right now we are practicing one evening a week (usually Tuesdays) and our goal at some point is to be playing out 2 to 4 times a month. Some addendums... While age and even experience isn't as important as the ability to play, we would like a certain level of "maturity". First and foremost, you must have your own gear. In other words, if you're still playing thru that little "First Act" guitar amp that your parents bought you at Walmart, we probably can NOT use you. I'm not saying that you have to have a "Marshall stack"...in fact we're playing in a smaller basement studio so that's not really desirable anyways, but we are an "electric" band and you do need to be heard along with a very dynamic drummer, bass player, myself and a full PA system. I personally play through a 100 watt 2x12 combo so please plan accordingly. Please also note that while we are an electric band, that we also do a couple of "acoustic tunes" as well (ala "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd) so while not absolutely essential, an acoustic guitar or an acoustic simulator would be benificial. On that same note, if you don't know the difference between playing in "the key of A" and "the key of E", again we can't really use you. You don't have to "read sheet music" or anything but you should know your way around your instrument. Also, I would reiterate here that the emphasis is on classic rock...the type of stuff you generally hear on WNCX. If your idea of classic rock is Donny & Marie, The Carpenters, Metallica or Eminem, please do not respond to this ad. You must have your own source of transportation to and from practices and shows. If you have to have your mommy drive you to and fro or your wife won't let you use the car because you have to take the kids to soccer practice, again we probably can't use you. Also I would reiterate that we are in the City of Lorain...if you live outside of this area, PLEASE make your travel plans accordingly! If you can't remember or don't actually know where the City of Lorain is, it's probably beyond your driving range! Also, a "realistic" attitude here is also a must. If you really believe you're the next Eddie Van Halen or Ynwie Malmstene and your ego is so big that it requires it's own tour bus, please don't waste anyone's time here. There are no star struck superstars here...all of us have been playing for many years and we know the local music scene. Again we're all doing this because we simply love playing music. I would also add that the music comes first. If you're looking to get out and start playing in bars right away or if you think you're going to get rich doing this or you're just doing this to get drunk and laid, please look elsewhere. I would also add that we have a female lead singer and a female drummer both of whom are strong, dynamic individuals so if you have any problem "working with women" you may wish to take this into consideration before you respond to this ad. That being said, female guitar players are also most welcome! Please be aware, we do have dogs and cats in the house where we practice and several of us are smokers, so if allergies or asthma or any of this is a problem, please take take this into consideration as well. Last but not least in regards to the addendums, please know that you will be expected to walk in the door (and out of it again later) with a straight head. If you find yourself incapable of playing/practicing/jamming without the use of alcohol, various smoke-able substances or if you have to "sip", "sniff", "snort", "shoot" or anything else to "get yourself in the mood", etc., and/or you're idea of "practice" means being passed out on the couch or floor, again please go elsewhere. If you are unable to control your "recreational activities" we simply can not use you. Now if you're still with me here and you've made it through all of that...again we're looking for someone who is primarily a lead guitar player. I can do some lead work and there's a couple of tunes where I'm happy to do the lead but in general I'm much more comfortable basically as a rhythm guitar player...that's simply what I love doing. Our influences include and we are playing tunes by; Clapton, SRV, BTO, Neil Young, John Melloncamp, Pink Floyd, Grand Funk, Fleetwood Mac, Chuck Berry and many, many others, etc., etc., etc.. Most of the material we're doing is "upbeat" stuff that should go over well in bars with the occasional slower tune here and there. Right now we have roughly 20 tunes together (in various stages of completeness) and we'd like to get that up to around 40 tunes or so before we start looking for gigs. I would also like to add that we're not always a "note for note" outfit and that we are not trying to form any kind of tribute band here and/or sound like anyone other than ourselves. We do, from time to time, take some "artistic license" with the music. In other words, the ability to improvise is fairly essential. Now it has 2 Master volumes, 1 Master tone that works in every position, and 5-way switching with coil splitting. You couldn't get Fender or Gibson to build this one for you... The top right picture shows the complete Re-fret job I did for the same strat with Dunlop Jumbo Fretwire. It originally had the small vintage fretwire. The client loves it! The bottom left picture is a Fiesta Red Telecaster I built and finished using a template based on the 1954 telecaster. The bottom right picture is of another 1954 Tele I built and finished in Lake Placid Blue Metallic. Both Teles were built from a solid body blank that I also made.
