<![CDATA[Our family is looking for a person who would be willing to spend occasional nights and part-time days for our octagenarian mother, who is alert, has literary and strong reading interests, is social and enjoys conversation and company. In a beautiful rural setting, it's yet hard for her to get to places where she can be among friends or others like her. She's not at the point where she needs a nursing home; however, she would be a good candidate for more independent, but assisted living, particularly for the camaraderie. She is ambulatory, walks ably with a cane, though she spends considerable time resting during the day, watching satellite news, reading, or napping. She is visited daily by one of her sons and grandsons. While diabetic, she controls that reasonably with medication. Like many in her situation, she has good days, with more energy, and those not so good, where she rests more and feels lethargic. Otherwise, she can move about freely (though she shouldn't do stairs), prepare simple meals, and bathe and dress on her own. This position is primarily for warm companionship and simple housekeeping tasks (helping with meals, doing twice-weekly laundry, etc). She likes to wash dinner dishes by hand, and usually does each day. Driving is a plus, as she likes to do her own grocery shopping in Mt. Vernon. She seldom goes out, unless for family activities or supervised grocery shopping, which she enjoys. This would be for during the week, with no real need for weekends. Hours and terms clearly are negotiable. She resides in a large home in a beautiful country setting with many amenties, given the easy access to nice local towns and relatives nearby. She is a smart, even-tempered, very pleasant family-oriented person. She has family within yards of her home and two miles, though their busy lives mean someone with more regular availability would be positive for her. A grounded, caring person, with a good sense of humor and easy-going personality, would be the right candidate. She is a former Spanish teacher, and she enjoys keeping up with that language.
