But in my defense, I understand negativity sells better than positive headlines (unfortunately), and I wanted to compel you to read the positive steps we can take during challenging times. Yes, economically we're in a challenging spot, yes politics can be an ugly game, but come on, all this negativity is to the brain like a steady dose of Big Macs is to the heart - very destructive! Seriously, how depressing is it to begin your day with these thoughts, images and perceptions? It's Time We Take Control! Why not focus on the fact that we have a tremendous economic system and it always has, and always will, rebound. We've had significant affluent times in the past and will experience tremendous growth again in the future. The market will rebound, as will housing and banking. And, we WILL learn valuable lessons from our current challenges to allow us to gain the wisdom to prevent similar challenges. We always do. In the meantime, here's what we can do to stay mentally, emotionally and physically strong and fit: 1. Begin your day with positive thoughts, words and mental images. I know, some people may say this is hogwash, but all of the successful people I know feed their brains with positive information or affirmations each day. Simply establishing and visualizing your goals is a positive influx to your brain. Reading something inspirational works equally as well as does listening to a motivational or educational book on CD during your commute. Feed your mind the positive; guard your mind against negative thoughts as if you were protecting your house from a robber. Both can take everything you have. 2. Focus on making better nutrition choices. What we eat directly impacts our energy, emotions and mental outlook. Low fat proteins, whole grain carbs, and fruits and veggies optimally fuel our body and mind. 3. Get regular exercise. Hundreds of studies have reviewed the relationship between exercise and mental state. An article titled "The Influence of Exercise on Mental Health" published in the Sports Research Digest suggested that exercise decreases depression more than relaxation training or casual recreation, both regularly accepted treatments for depression, and suggests that exercise rivals that of psychotherapy. Regular exercise significantly stimulates our "feel-good" brain chemicals of serotonin and dopamine while keeping the stress hormone cortisol in balance. On the contrary, if you don't feel "good," everything feels more difficult. Getting your workout in, eating healthy foods, or going for a walk or jog feel as if they are overwhelming tasks when you're not "up". These are those moments where you just have to pick yourself up by your bootstraps and just do it. Shortly thereafter, the good feelings kick in. Now more than ever, it's time we take control over how we feel. We can't control our politicians, our economy, the stock market or the price of gasoline. However, we always determine what we focus on in any moment in time. Focus on what you want, feed your mind with positives, strive for healthy nutrition and be consistent with your exercise. I haven't been on craigslist for a while. I know this is a long email, but it's important. You are absolutely correct that stem cell research can help sick people. What is commonly not understood though is that there are different types of stem cell research (SCR). Adult, Amniotic Fluid, and Embryonic SCR. Adult & Amniotic Fluid SCR (ethically derived) is advancing every day as is embryonic SCR. However, to date there have been thousands of lives saved from ethically derived Adult Stem cells, and ZERO lives saved by embryonic stem cells. In fact, as of today, the FDA has not even approved testing on Humans with Embryonic Stem Cells because they are so dangerous. Not to mention that they kill live human embryos in the process, and there are serious risks to the women who donate their eggs (Death, Stroke, etc.) And yes, a significant number of women have died and experienced other complications from doing this The 1st reason why scientists and investors want to expedite research on embryonic SCR is because the "potential" with embryonic SC's is theoretically higher than that of Adult SC's because embryonic cells are what is called Pluripotent. This basically means that they can more easily be transformed into a bone, heart, kidney, finger cell, etc. and used for treatment. However, ethical scientists are rapidly advancing the potential of Adult / Amniotic fluid SCR to the point that they are being made pluripotent so that they will have the same qualities as embryonic stem cells. And we don't have to kill a human embryo or put a woman at risk to donate her eggs. The 2nd reason why scientists and investors prefer embryonic stem cell research is financial. I seriously encourage you to read the attached article to see the money trail behind embryonic SCR. Everything is factually accurate including references. The bottom line is that there are patents behind Embryonic SCR that are making TONS of money for the patent holder James Thomson of WARF (Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation), and if cures are found even more money to be made by the researcher who found the cure. And Adult Stem cells don't have this same financial luring... Why? because you can't charge somebody for using their own cells which is what Adult Stem Cells are. And, frankly, using embryonic stem cells requires us to end the 1 human life to save another. Using Adult Stem Cells does not. The question to ask ourselves is "is it ethically permissible to kill an innocent human being (regardless of age, size, location, external dependencies, etc) for some other good?" If Yes, then by all means support Proposal 2. But if not, then vote NO. My only objective is to try to make people aware of what they are voting for. Proponents of Proposal 2 have led a highly misleading effort to get it on the ballot, and I think it's important for people to know the truth. One example of how they misled is this. When they were getting signatures on petitions in Michigan, it was being presented as "Would you sign this petition which is to overturn Michigan's ban on stem cell research"... That's a lie. Stem Cell and Embryonic Stem Cell Research is LEGAL in Michigan today. What is ILLEGAL today is to create Embryos in Michigan, so researchers in Michigan (particulaly U of M) must use embryos that are imported from one of the handful of states where it's legal to Farm embryos. Proposal 2 will make it LEGAL for Michigan to now Farm Embryos. It will also not protect Michigan's current ban on Human Cloning, which in a roundabout legal way will open the door for Human Cloning in Michigan.]]>

<![CDATA[I decided to dine in Blimpies near Wayne State University today. To my amazement, I learned they now offer Subs with Halal meat. They have a wide variety of subs that come in Halal. Including turkey, turkey bacon, corned beef, and roast beef. WSU Blimpies is the only sub sandwich shop that offers Halal subs in the midtown Detroit Wayne state university area. I have not been in Blimpies in a while, I noticed the decor, menu, and Ownership has changed. The store is now owned and operated by Nick Sleiman. I asked Nick why he is the only Sub shop in the WSU Detroit area serving Halal subs. He responded by saying, “Wayne State University has a very diverse faculty and student base.” "People come from all over the world to study at Wayne State University.” "Many are from Muslim countries and have few options where they can eat a sub.” "At WSU Blimpies they know it’s always freshly sliced, served with a wide variety of bread choices (including Mediterranean flat bread, marbled rye, and spinach flat bread to name a few), and Halal certified"." In addition, we offer a variety of spices you will not find at any sub restaurant in Detroit. We carry crushed red pepper, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, onion salt, and steak seasoning." I am impressed a small business owner has finally stepped up and started offering menu items that cater to the surrounding community. I am glad WSU Blimpies is offering Halal subs, now I will not have to drive all the way to Dearborn to get a Halal sub. The definition of Halal means, any meat must have been slaughtered according to traditional guidelines set forth by the Sunnah, known as dhabiĥa. This is the strictest definition of Halal. In my opinion, the Halal subs taste better than non-Halal subs. Its Ironic that Wayne state University has several subways and a Jimmie Johns in a one-mile radius, and none of them serves Halal subs. It is obvious that these other sub shops are not trying to cater to the taste of their market base. Check out Jobberz.com, a free online classified advertising service started by Shawn Hanaee. “That’s my side job,” said Hanaee, 32, who is employed full-time by Sprint/Nextel. He’s been an account executive based at the company’s corporate office in Farmington Hills for seven years and he’s been in the wireless industry for 13 years. The Rochester Hills resident’s one-year-old website is called jobberz.com (www.jobberz.com). With over 2900 advertisers from across the United States are registered, most from Michigan. There also are numerous advertisers from California, New York, Illinois and Georgia. Hanaee came up with the idea for the website in February 2004 when he decided to renovate his home without using a contractor. “I asked friends and family if they could recommend people who do certain home improvements,” he said. “I soon began to realize that it seems like everyone has connections to competent people who do side jobs.” Most of the workers Hanaee hired to work on his home were employed full-time in another industry. For example, there was the carpenter who also was a car salesman and the electrician who also was an eighth-grade teacher. After the renovation was complete, Hanaee figured he spent about one-sixth the cost of hiring professionals. When Hanaee did some home repair work last summer, it cost him just $200 to have his air conditioner fixed, and two toilets were repaired for $50 – all thanks to finding workers on jobberz.com. <![CDATA[Michigan’s glorious fall colors are a welcome sight but Flying OVER the fall colors in a hot air balloon is the best says Scott Lorenz, President and Chief Pilot of Westwind Balloon Company of Plymouth, Michigan. <a href="http://www.westwindcos.com/balloon" rel="nofollow">http://www.westwindcos.com/balloon</a> “The palate of colors just takes your breath away," says Mike Ball, crewman and sometimes passenger, "I love taking photos from the balloon especially when we fly over Kensington Park, it’s fabulous, it’s ten times better than driving. People just have no idea how pretty it is." Most balloon rides last about one hour and Lorenz flies over the woods and streams of Kensington Park. He and several other pilot friends meet at Park 'n Ride area off Milford Road and I-96 (exit # 155) about 2 1/2 hours before sunset. From there he’ll launch helium balloons, determine the wind direction, then take a short drive to one of nine launch sites in the area that give the best views and best landing sites downwind. “Sometimes the landing can be like taking an elevator ride and others can be a little more exciting that’s why great care is taken in making the ‘go’ or ‘no-go’ decision on each flight based upon the weather.” What to wear? Lorenz suggests passengers wear tennis shoes and jeans. He says the air temp “upstairs” is within a couple degrees of ground temp so its not a factor. Cameras and video cameras are highly recommended to preserve the once in a lifetime moments while flying over the countryside. <![CDATA[Michigan Republicans plan to foreclose African American voters The chairman of the Republican Party in Macomb County Michigan, a key swing county in a key swing state, is planning to use a list of foreclosed homes to block people from voting in the upcoming election as part of the state GOP’s effort to challenge some voters on Election Day. “We will have a list of foreclosed homes and will make sure people aren’t voting from those addresses,” party chairman James Carabelli told Michigan Messenger in a telephone interview earlier this week. He said the local party wanted to make sure that proper electoral procedures were followed. State election rules allow parties to assign “election challengers” to polls to monitor the election. In addition to observing the poll workers, these volunteers can challenge the eligibility of any voter provided they “have a good reason to believe” that the person is not eligible to vote. One allowable reason is that the person is not a “true resident of the city or township.” The Michigan Republicans’ planned use of foreclosure lists is apparently an attempt to challenge ineligible voters as not being “true residents.” One expert questioned the legality of the tactic. “You can’t challenge people without a factual basis for doing so,” said J. Gerald Hebert, a former voting rights litigator for the U.S. Justice Department who now runs the Campaign Legal Center, a Washington D.C.-based public-interest law firm. “I don’t think a foreclosure notice is sufficient basis for a challenge, because people often remain in their homes after foreclosure begins and sometimes are able to negotiate and refinance.” As for the practice of challenging the right to vote of foreclosed property owners, Hebert called it, “mean-spirited.” GOP ties to state’s largest foreclosure law firm The Macomb GOP’s plans are another indication of how John McCain’s campaign stands to benefit from the burgeoning number of foreclosures in the state. McCain’s regional headquarters are housed in the office building of foreclosure specialists Trott & Trott. The firm’s founder, David A. Trott, has raised between $100,000 and $250,000 for the Republican nominee. The Macomb County party’s plans to challenge voters who have defaulted on their house payments is likely to disproportionately affect African-Americans who are overwhelmingly Democratic voters. More than 60 percent of all sub-prime loans — the most likely kind of loan to go into default — were made to African-Americans in Michigan, according to a report issued last year by the state’s Department of Labor and Economic Growth. Challenges to would-be voters Statewide, the Republican Party is gearing up for a comprehensive voter challenge campaign, according to Denise Graves, party chair for Republicans in Genessee County, which encompasses Flint. The party is creating a spreadsheet of election challenger volunteers and expects to coordinate a training with the regional McCain campaign, Graves said in an interview with Michigan Messenger. Whether the Republicans will challenge voters with foreclosed homes elsewhere in the state is not known. Kelly Harrigan, deputy director of the GOP’s voter programs, confirmed that she is coordinating the group’s “election integrity” program. Harrigan said the effort includes putting in place a legal team, as well as training election challengers. She said the challenges to voters were procedural rather than personal. She referred inquiries about the vote challenge program to communications director Bill Knowles who promised information but did not return calls. Party chairman Carabelli said that the Republican Party is training election challengers to “make sure that [voters] are who they say who they are.” When asked for further details on how Republicans are compiling challenge lists, he said, “I would rather not tell you all the things we are doing.” Vote suppression: Not an isolated effort Carabelli is not the only Republican Party official to suggest the targeting of foreclosed voters. In Ohio, Doug Preisse, director of elections in Franklin County (around the city of Columbus) and the chair of the local GOP, told The Columbus Dispatch that he has not ruled out challenging voters before the election due to foreclosure-related address issues. Hebert, the voting-rights lawyer, sees a connection between Priesse’s remarks and Carabelli’s plans. “At a minimum what you are seeing is a fairly comprehensive effort by the Republican Party, a systematic broad-based effort to put up obstacles for people to vote,” he said. “Nobody is contending that these people are not legally registered to vote. “When you are comprehensively challenging people to vote,” Hebert went on, “your goals are two-fold: One is you are trying to knock people out from casting ballots; the other is to create a slowdown that will discourage others,” who see a long line and realize they can’t afford to stay and wait. Challenging all voters registered to foreclosed homes could disrupt some polling places, especially in the Detroit metropolitan area. According to the real estate Web site RealtyTrac, one in every 176 households in Wayne County, metropolitan Detroit, received a foreclosure filing during the month of July. In Macomb County, the figure was one household in every 285, meaning that 1,834 homeowners received the bad news in just one month. The Macomb County foreclosure rate puts it in the top three percent of all U.S. counties in the number of distressed homeowners. Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Kent and Genessee counties were — in that order — the counties with the most homeowners facing foreclosure, according to RealtyTrac. As of July, there were more than 62,000 foreclosure filings in the entire state. Joe Rozell, director of elections for Oakland County in suburban Detroit, acknowledged that challenges such as those described by Carabelli are allowed by law but said they have the potential to create long lines and disrupt the voting process. With 890,000 potential voters closely divided between Democratic and Republican, Oakland County is a key swing county of this swing state. According to voter challenge directives handed down by Republican Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, voter challenges need only be “based on information obtained through a reliable source or means.” “But poll workers are not allowed to ask the reason” for the challenges, Rozell said. In other words, Republican vote challengers are free to use foreclosure lists as a basis for disqualifying otherwise eligible voters. David Lagstein, head organizer with the Michigan Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), described the plans of the Macomb GOP as “crazy.” “You would think they would think, ‘This is going to look too heartless,’” said Lagstein, whose group has registered 200,000 new voters statewide this year and also runs a foreclosure avoidance program. “The Republican-led state Senate has not moved on the anti-predatory lending bill for over a year and yet [Republicans] have time to prey on those who have fallen victim to foreclosure to suppress the vote.” WE HAVE TO PUT AN END TO THIS! Human embryo production lines for the purpose of killing them to use their stem cells for research. 2. The Proposal would not protect Michigan's current ban on Human Cloning. It would open the door for scientists to clone humans embryos for medical purposes. ***Supporters of Proposal 2 are trying to make it sound like stem cell research or even embryonic stem cell research is currently banned in Michigan, and that this Proposal will overturn that. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE LIE. Embryonic and Adult Stem cell resarch are both LEGAL in Michigan today, and being conducted daily at the University of Michigan. What IS illegal in Michigan is to create human embryos for the purpose of medical research. Today, Michigan allows for the importing of existing embryos from one of the few states that allow the farming of human embryos. What supporters of this Proposal don't advertise is that ethical stem cell research is progressing every day to the point that Adult Stem Cells are able to be reverted to nearly the same valuable level as embryonic stem cells. Ford charged us $858 to replace a $10 part! We have no money to fix it this time. If the spark plug bursts out of the same hole again, we would have to get the engine replaced because the threads would be worn out. And it would be replaced with the same messed up engine! There is no recall for this common and potentially dangerous issue in these particular 5.4 V8 Triton engines. It can spark a fire if the spark plug hits the fuel rail. This is a manufacturer defect that Ford mechanics are aware of from the Ford Bulletins. The engine head is aluminum, while the spark plug is steel. Of course its not going to hold up like it should. I have filed complaints with Ford, FTC, NHTSA, and Consumer Affairs (all the associations that I know of so far) Ford of course is not cooperating with me. I’m ready to spearhead a class action lawsuit against Ford. (First I need a lawyer willing to take this on). There was already one started in California, but it fell through.
