The smaller the number the older the license and the more experience the license holder has. 2. You can check names, telephones and addresses at <a href="http://www.license.state.tx.us/LicenseSearch" rel="nofollow">http://www.license.state.tx.us/LicenseSearch</a> 3. The state of Texas says you do not have to pay someone for work done that required a license if they do not have a license. Their license number MUST appear on all invoices, bids, advertisements, letters etc.. 4. Its not that difficult to get a license, a few year experience , the test is an open book test. The most important part is passing the criminal background check. I believe that is why most of these "OUTLAWS" do not have licenses, do you want them in your home!! 5. Report outlaw and bootleg advertisements to CS.Air.Conditioning@license.state.tx.us Class B License: The license holder may engage in each type of air conditioning and refrigeration contracting that is endorsed on the license in relation to a system, a product, or equipment of not more than: - 25 tons cooling capacity, or - 1.5 million British thermal units per hour (Btu/h) output heating capacity. A holder of a Class B license may design, install, construct, maintain, service, repair, alter, or modify individual units as stated above. In a building or a complex of buildings, which have more than one air conditioning or heating unit. The combined cooling capacity may exceed 25 tons, and heating capacity may exceed 1.5 million Btu/h, providing each complete individual unit does not exceed the capacities stated above. Any contractor who has a Class B license with one or two endorsements may upgrade either endorsement by passing the Class A examination for that endorsement. License Numbers and Endorsements A license is non-transferable. An air conditioning and refrigeration contracting company is forbidden from using a license number that is not assigned to that company. License numbers must have the following form: Contractor's License Number: TACL A 000000 C (will appear all together on license) Title Class Number Endorsement Code An air conditioning and refrigeration contractor license must be endorsed with one, or both, of the following endorsements: - an environmental air conditioning endorsement - "E" - a commercial refrigeration and process cooling or heating endorsement - "R" - a combined endorsement - "C" An environmental air conditioning endorsement entitles the license holder to engage in air conditioning and refrigeration contracting for environmental air conditioning within the class of license held.
