Students may also perform other CLIA waived tests such as pregnancy or quick strep tests following the above guidelines. *A CLIA waived Glucose meter should be provided by the proctor site. Practicum 35: Microbiology Testing 1. Obtain a throat specimen for microbiology test and complete a CLIA waived Strep test following the manufacturers test instructions .The student will maintain quality control by: Documenting the patient's name and date of collection. * The student may perform the test on themselves or if the proctor agrees the student may perform the test on the proctor. *The correct technique for collecting the throat specimen may be demonstrated to the proctor by the student. The proctor site will provide the material (such as a long cotton swab OR the actual collection swab ) An actual swab does not have to be taken as long as the student can demonstrate the correct technique.
