Construction of a dormitory for orphans in Rufunsa

June 6 - June 19, 2010

Rufunsa was originally part of the South Luangwa Game Reserve. Sadly there are very few animals in the area due to illegal game hunting and poaching. It is located 170 km East of Lusaka. The community is very small and yet has many orphans. Many parents have been killed by HIV or malaria, other could not get proper health care. The community came together and founded the Blessed Hope orphanage. It is run by members of the community and it has gotten some funds from the Government. However, these funds are not enough to enable them to complete the construction of the orphanage.
The volunteers will continue the construction of the dormitory for the children that was started last year. This work will involve carrying sand on wheel barrows from a nearby stream to the project site, moving blocks from the place they were made to the site. Then the volunteers will construct the dorms. Volunteers will also make visits to the local school and the high school nearby.
Accommodation: The volunteers will be accommodated in locally made huts. The project site is located far from town and so volunteers would have to get essential supplies whilst still in Lusaka.
Arrival remark: Volunteers attending the project should arrive two days before its commencement to attend an orientation meeting.

For more info and enrollment, please go to: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-zambia.htm

To learn more about the international volunteer workcamps go to: www.cadip.org/workcamp.htm or give us a call:
 617-502-0400

 604-628-7400

Volunteer opportunities in other countries: www.cadip.org

Locals even believe that the queen of Icelandic Elves lived in the town. Álfaborg (Elf Rock), a small nature reserve is a tourist highlight of the area until now. Close to the town, you can also find the Islet Hafnarhólmi, a puffin colony with 10,000 pairs. Although it remains among the most traditional areas of the country, it is also the poorest and less developed part in terms of infrastructure or industry; creating a huge rural exodus and migration from the Isan inhabitants to Bangkok. The Khueang Nai District administration wants to dynamize the Deng Mor rural areas and stimulate English learning through the international volunteers’ presence. The main target group of the project will be young people and children. Inside this larger framework, each project will address the specific target group in different villages in the Deng Mor area.
Cultural exchange is the main work of the project. The volunteers will discover the typical Isan culture and traditions, visiting villagers, farmers and local artisans, helping them in their tasks. The volunteers will also hold English teaching workshops for the children of several district villages. The exact nature of the work will depend of the needs of the village at the time of the project.
Study theme: The volunteers will learn about the culture of rural Thailand in general and the traditions and specificity of the Isan region. Thai language lessons will also be given to the volunteers.
Special requirements: A correct level of English language and the will to teach it to kids is obviously necessary. The volunteers need also to be motivated to discover Thai culture and to present the one of their country of origin.
Leisure time: Leisure time will be organised by the volunteers with the support of the group leader. The closest city is far but accessible. The region isn’t very tourist attractive as such but the nature is of extraordinary beauty: rice fields, small temples and natural parks are all over the region.
New years Eve, according to the Thai Buddhist calendar takes place in April. The volunteers in the April group will have the great chance to attend the ceremonies and festivities in the village with the local population.
Accommodation: The volunteers will be hosted in a traditional Isan house in the community and have access to the same basic conditions as any villager.
Location: The Deng Mor sub-district area is about 20 km far from Khueang Nai city and 60 km north west of Ubon Ratchatani city, in the Isan region, North east of Thailand.
Age range: 18 and over

For more details visit: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-thailand.htm

For volunteer opportunities in other countries go to: www.cadip.orgor give us a call: 617-502-0400 (US), 604-628-7400 (Canada)

Think of the qualities of a great city - fun, space, clean air, nature, culture - and Reykjavik has them in spades. Reykjavik offers both the features of a modern and innovative society and the marvelous traits of a pristine and unique landscape. The population of the Reykjavik Area is about 200,000. Reykjavik is spread across a peninsula offering a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean from nearly every part of the city.
The world’s northernmost capital is framed by the majestic Mt. Esja, which keeps a watchful eye on the city, and the blue waters of Faxafloi Bay. On a sunny day, the mystical Snaefellsjokull glacier towers over the western horizon, while mountainous moonscapes spread to the southeast.
The volunteer work during this project will mostly consist in embellishing the downtown area and helping the local authorities improve the city’s look and atmosphere. Tasks will include cleaning tags and painting old houses. We will be mostly working outdoors giving a hand to the environmental department in taking care of the parks and green areas in the heart of Reykjavík. In addition to that, we might also clean the coastline in the city area.
Project language: English
Age range: 18 and over

More information and enrollment: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-iceland.htm

For volunteer opportunities in other countries please go to: www.cadip.org or give us a call: 617-502-0400 (US); 604-628-7400 (Canada)

In this area, the main economic activity is farming; the majority of the people are peasants.
There will be an orientation where the objectives and expectations of the program will be presented to the volunteers. The participants in the project will be working with the elderly people. They will be involved in several activities such as teaching, adult education, book keeping, soil conservation, poultry/goat rearing, bee keeping, planting, harvesting, digging.
Cultural exchange: There will be cultural presentations where all the volunteers will have an opportunity to present their countries and cultures.
