<![CDATA[Hi, this posting is geared toward anyone who may be involved in the education system, be it a teacher, administrator, or even a concerned parent who as a voter has the ear of his or her elected school official. I am a graduate student in economics at Duke University and I recently developed a regression model that can reveal whether or not school programs designed to raise FCAT scores actually succeed in their objective and have any effect on test scores. Millions of taxpayer dollars are spent on these programs across the state, and because FCAT performance is so closely tied to school funding, wasting time and money on an ineffective program actually hurts you twice. My fees for my services are extremely modest. I would require a small contract that would vary based on the amount of data that would need to be processed but that would range between $1,000-$2,000. Or, if changes are adopted based on my recommendations, I would be happy to forego this fee for 0.5% (or, 50 cents per $100) of whatever money is saved by cutting programs that are demonstrated to have no effect on test scores with 95% certainty or greater. In return, I will give you a full evaluation of the effectiveness of absolutely any FCAT score improvement programs your school implements, including, but not limited to: The precise amount of certainty attached to the program improving the scores of students (i.e., 95% certain it generates an improvement) The size of the effect that the program has on student scores The nature of the effect across racial, gender, or socioeconomic lines The amount of money the program earns in funding generated by score improvement versus the amount it costs Explanations for the trends implied by the regression This is the same type of modeling financial firms use in capital markets and financial instruments models. For the potential return, this is an extremely cheap service I am offering. The reason being that, as a beginning educational economist, the reputation capital I can gain from providing a service that cuts wastefulness is far greater than the gain I can get from charging fees to schools.
