With all the out and out lies being told by Obama and the media not calling him on any of them. I'm even more upset that McCain does not take the opportunity to respond to them while debating. It seems like McCain isn't even listening to what Obama is saying. He's being served up a softball to hit out of the park and he doesn't even recognize it.

AND the statement that Obama makes at every debate, "I don't understand why we are in Iraq, a country that had nothing to do with 911". McCain should hit that one out of the park... with "If you Senator Obama, were experienced in foriegn policy you'd understand".

AND the lastest response from Obama, last night that he, Obama, wouldn't allow genocide to exist in any country by sending in troops to help. Another home run opportunity missed by McCain. McCain should have pushed back to the Obama statement about not knowing why we were in Iraq where genocide was happening before we went in... it was all about WMD remember? It also cost Saddam his life in an Iraqi court decision.--- All this has me bitterly clinging to my God and my guns. | my ad is under oct. 1 w/picture | I am looking for my father. Her husband, George, is in the late stages of the debilitating disease and she is doing everything in her power to support the Alzheimer’s Foundation in its search for a cure.

She came out to volunteer on September 13th, at the Florida Mom Magazine’s FUNdraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association held in front of the 1-800-flowers in the Intracoastal Target Shopping Center. “My husband is in late stage Alzheimer’s and is now at home with 24-hour care,” said Catallo. “The Alzheimer’s Association has been very helpful to me. They put me in touch with Carol Neil of the Hope Adult Daycare Services and he loved going there. That was his office. From there, I just admire what she (Neil) has done and we formed this charitable organization, Friends of Hope. Now I am very involved in supporting this organization. I believe in the Alzheimer’s Association and its research to find a cure. It’s taking over the world and it is the cruelest disease that I know of. It’s cruel to everyone that is involved. Living with the disease has made me want to help.”

The FUNdraiser, which had the Jaguars ROAR Cheerleaders, a City of Jacksonville Fire Truck, SpaceWalk bounces, snow cones, face painting, and a 45 basket raffle, was held to raise money for the Hope Adult Daycare Services team who walked in the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk on September 20th. Businesses that came out to support the Alzheimer’s Association at the event include Curves, Greenwood School, 1-800-Flowers, Sweet & Sassy, Dr. Cullum’s HealthSource, Comfy Soles, Kids by the Hour, Cummer Art Gallery, the Jacksonville Zoo, Jazzercise, Spacewalk of Jacksonville, Cookie Lee Jewelry, and the Sylvan Learning Center. Many volunteers from the Alzheimer’s Association were on hand to help during the event.

Mark Moore, a trainer at the Alzheimer’s Association came out to support the Florida Mom Magazine event. “There is so much competition for dollars these days,” said Moore. “We have really reached the point, where we need some sort of infusion of dollars soon.”

Moore said there are 4.5 million people a year diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Without a vaccination against the disease, they expect by 2050, that number will be between 11 and 16 million people diagnosed with the disease.
“Of all the dementia’s, Alzheimer’s is the most common,” said Moore.

Moore said volunteers are crucial to their organization. “Nobody has the money to fund full-time positions, so the more we can get people to volunteer, the better off we are,” he said. “Currently we have about 30-50 volunteers, but we could always use more. We need them for the support groups and for one-on-one meetings with clients.”
Mary Orser, who manned a booth at the event for Curves, said her mother Pearl Orser suffered from Alzheimer’s. “It’s very personal,” said Orser. “It’s in my family and I would really like to find a cure. The Alzheimer’s Association was very supportive to me as we went through that with her. I strongly believe in Curves and if we continue to work out and stay busy hopefully it will help us avoid having that happen to us.”

The September 20th Memory Walk took place at the Jacksonville Landing. It had been raining all morning, but upon arriving, their were still well over three hundred people ready to support and walk for a great cause. Tish Sheeshley, the North & Central Florida Alzheimers Association’s CEO grabbed the microphone and got the crowd energized just as the rains began to stop. The horn sounded and the crowd proceeded to walk over the Main street and Acosta bridges, before coming back to the Landing. It was a great finale to a lot of worthwhile work for a great cause.

The water damage was due to defects in construction of the property. The property was built by Arlington Properties and the community is now owned by Miami developer Vivian Dimond.

It has been made known that the developer/owner of the property is not planning to fix the damaged condos (even if the damage is minor). Many of the units are currently unoccupied, but she and her leasing staff are working to rent the units out. Several of the condominium owners suffered damage to their units and it was a huge struggle for those people to get their condos fix and repaired.

If you are considering renting at Lantern Square, make sure to ask about water damage and mold to any unit you look at. If you lease here, get it in writing about the water and mold damage.

We know for a fact the leasing office has rented out condos here and in all likelihood, not disclosed to the tenant the water and mold damage.

Earlier this year, the city requested a study of the problems at the facility. The report, which lists major concerns with bookkeeping, animal health and holding time of animals, has since begun to circulate.

The report states nearly three-quarters of the animals taken in at the shelter are euthanized.

Tike Loverme, who visited animal control on Wednesday to adopt a dog, told Channel 4 she was well aware that the pooches she passed by in her search would more than likely be dead by this time next week.

She said the statistics break her heart.

"Every animal needs a loving home," said Loverme.

Unfortunately, not every animal at the shelter is going to get one. The majority of the animals have to be put down to make room for others.

On Tuesday, 79 animals were taken into the shelter and 78 animals were euthanized. Only five pets were adopted.

That heart-breaking number prompted animal lovers to take a close look at what really goes on at the shelter.

The task force that issued the report on the shelter said it found several problems that existed at animal care and control. The report is very critical of what goes on at animal control. For example, when animals are first brought in, there was no determination made if they were adoptable or not.

The task force found very little push to get animals adopted. It stated that animals that were set to be put down were not euthanized in time. The group also said there were sick animals with healthy animals and that bookkeeping at the facility was sloppy.

Since the report has been released, changes have been made at Jacksonville Animal Care and Control. Ebenezer Gujjarlapudi, who oversees that division said staff has been upgraded and a second vet was hired.

"So we have instituted since the report came out is to vaccinate every animal that is brought in, no matter what. But remember it also adds a cost component to it," Gujjarlapudi said.

He also said staff at the animal control is being crossed trained to handle other areas at the shelter.

The city said it has made many changes since the report came out but there is one thing it cannot change.

"Overcrowding is something that is beyond our control in the sense that we cannot determine how many animals we accept. We have to accept every animal that is brought in, plus we have limited kennel space," Gujjarlapudi said.

A new animal control facility is expected to open in about a year. However, the same overcrowding problems could still exist.
Our 18 year old son recently underwent, what was to be an invasive, surgery for correction of Pectus Excavatum (deformity of the sternum) at Memorial Hospital here in Jacksonville. The normal hospital stay for this procedure is usually five days , w/ a eight week home recovery. However, due to complications, our son is still in the hospital seven (7) weeks later. Thank God for insurance!

Serious complications includes fluid build-up and drainage from the large incision in his chest (surgical drains were removed three days after surgery). High fever, chills, lack of energy, elevated eosinophils.

The fluid build-up and drainage has been non-stop for six weeks. Finally, after several CT's, ex-rays, cultures, cocktail of IV antibiotics, the surgeon stated he's having a reaction to the titanium plate and would have to remove it. Surgical removal of the titanium plate was performed over a week ago and he is still having issues with drainage (once again, surgical JP drains were removed three days after surgery). | One loner Today Today young can thats

I myself had a really bad experience in the ER. I was taken by Rescue and asked to sit in the waiting room as they were packed and no beds available. I spent over 12 hours before I was taken back from the waiting room to be examined and another 12 or more in the back while 9 Doctors tried to figure out what my problem was. By the time they decided to do an exploratory operation to find out what was wrong, my internal organs were shutting down. The problem: My small intestines were blocked, I had gangrene, and peritonitis also. They removed 3 and 1/2 ft.of my small bowell. I spent 1-1/2 weeks in ICU and another 2 on 8th floor. I honestly have to say though that I think if's it's anyone's fault it is the intake person who decideds who needs to be seen first, and their failure to recognize such is probably because of all the people that come there hoping to get their drug fix for the day or maybe a place to sleep for the night. I also have to state that once I was moved from the waiting area into the back for treatment and from the back to ICU I was treated with dignity and the upmost care. Everyone was nice and I never had to ask for anything. They went beyond the call of duty to see I had everything I needed.I almost died, but they made sure I didn't.There is a lot more to this story that I did not write as it would serve no purpose, nor would it change the past and all that happened prior to being admitted. I would just say this to everyone, If you have an emergency and need to go to the emergency room, please go.If it's not an emergency and you just need drugs, walk down the street and see a dealer. There's no waiting. If you need shelter and food, there are plenty where you can find a bed and a meal for the night. If you get drunk, fall and scrape your knee, put a band aide on it and call your Doctor tomorrow if you feel you need to.Leave the ER for those that really need it and then maybe a life will be spared. We have the option to learn from our experiences even the bad ones.Peace to all.Accept the things you cannot change, Change the things you can, and Pray for the wisdom to know the difference. | If you are an owner at any of the following apartment to condominium conversion communities (Oasis of Mandarin, Lantern Square Condominiums, or Monterey Condominiums) then we wonder just how happy you are with where you are living?

Most of us paid good money to live in a condominium community, but now find ourselves stuck living in a rental community, as the developer of these three communities is now leasing out all her unsold units in order to cover her own financial strain. We are paying HOA on our condominiums, but the big question for everyone... "is the developer paying HOA on all the condos she owns?"
Has the developer maintained the property you live in? Did you suffer water or mold damage from tropical storm Fay? Are you finding yourself stuck in a sea of rental units, paying a mortgage and HOA when everyone around you is renting? You are unable to rent out your condo, unable to sell and considering foreclosure?

Many of us may have no financial recourse but to walk away.

Joshua Merrell, 21 years of age, was in a motorcycle accident 33 days ago. He was taken to Shands Jax having critical brain injuries. Initially he was in a coma for several weeks. Although he was wearing a helmet, part of his skull must be reconstructed when he is well enough for the doctors to do so. He has a feeding tube, a trach, and has been going in and out of conciousness. He opens his eyes at times and seems to be recognizing his mom and dad. He and his parents are fighters and with their faith in God and with the faith and prayers from others, they are trusting God for his healing. Many prayers have been going on all over the US as far as Alaska and also into Canada and other countries. His progress is coming along slowly but surely and with our faith in God we are hoping, praying and trusting Him for a full recovery. His parents are being very strong through this but they do have their ups and downs. If any of you are led by God, please join in by faith to pray or make a monetary contribution to help them with their medical expenses as they are far exceeding more than we could possibly imagine and continue to rise. Of course his parents have put Joshua ahead of their financial burdens. And I think those of us who have children can certainly understand that. They want him to have the best medical care possible and they do not care what they have to lose materialistically speaking. If any of you out there feel led from the heart to make a difference in their lives, pray with all your heart, contribute to their financial needs, and pass the word around to those you know who may want to help in either situation or both. So I pray that all of you find it in your hearts to do what you can for this family to help them get through this hardship. I'm sure they would be blessed to know God truly works through others to help those in need. Personally, I would like God to be acknowledged and given the Glory for their needs being met. Therefore, I am writing this without them having any knowledge of my doing so. I believe because we all matter to one another as well as mattering to God. Doing this confidendially and without glory to ourselves, I'm certain God will be pleased as we help in obedience to Him. It is through God's leading we find our purpose here on earth. And that purpose is to love God, help the widows and orphans, and be obedient to Him. In closing, have faith, pray, contribute and pass it on. For contributions send them to Shands on behalf of Joshua Merrell's medical expenses or Fast Boys at Atlantic and Kernan Blvd. What a blessing for them and for us. May God Bless and Keep You All in His Peace as You walk in His Obedience. Thank you Lord for all You are doing for Joshua and his family. AMEN

UPDATES:
9/4/08 Joshua's parents got word by chance. Today his aunt heard from a PA that he'd probably have surgery on Friday. Noone had talked to any of the family about that prior to his aunt hearing this for the first time. The surgery is to fix the missing part of his skull. Also, the hospital says Joshua will be able to leave 3 days after that. His family is in total shock! As you all can imagine I'm sure. They have no idea where he's to go for the help or care he needs. And here's where it gets good. Their financial burden a couple of weeks ago was over $250,000.00 and if I'm not mistaken an injunction? was put against them. I have no idea what the amount owed is now. But I find it very sad that we send people over to other countries volunteering their medical knowledge all expenses paid yet they're going to kick Joshua out because they don't have this kind of money. Does anyone know how they can get some help in this situation? If so, please go to http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/joshuamerrell and sign into 'guestbook' to give them the information. Thank you so much! and God Bless you!

Secondly, NOT ALL HOSPITALS HAVE THE SAME POLICIES AND PROCEDURES! One hospital's Labor and Delivery policy may have been to induce you, while others may not. The is the great thing about medicine. Doctor's develop their own ways to practice and they do what works for them. Do you ever read the newspaper? If you do then you have heard about athletes and others going to get SECOND OPINIONS. What is a second opinion for? To see if other doctors have an alternate method of treatment or opinion of what to do for a specific disease process.

Like someone said a few days ago on here. You people need to stop trying to be doctors because you read about something on wikipedia, or because you googled it and some website said something. I am proud to say I'm one of the nurses in Shands ER and it's a hard job. All to many times my coworkers and I come across patients like this that are looking for pity and for someone to strike out at. Our goals at he beginning of our shifts are to save lives, help the sick people and make a difference in their lives at a time when they feel their worst and for the most we can achieve this. But it never fails there is always one patient who uses their ER visit as their acting debut or for payback for everything that has gone wrong in their lives and trust me it's a good night if there is only one patient who acts out.

It's funny that whenever anyone asks what I do for a living and I proudly say "I'm a ER nurse at Shands of Jacksonville" the comeback is always the same. ARE YOU NUTS? Most people in the medical field truly want to help people, but my goodness there are way too many people abusing the ER's in our hospitals. This is a major reason why the ones who really are in need on ER medicine may not be seen as soon as the nurses and doctors would like to see them. Its a joke how the wellfare class in this country take advantage of this. Every little thing that goes wrong becomes a trip to the ER and it bogs down the whole system. I had a visit to Shands last year because of a heart condition and had a great stay there. Never was in the ER, but the cardiac people upstairs took great care of me. We all know that not all of the people that receive treatment at a hospital will be satisfied. "Media attention" that you are soliciting only draws other people that can NOT read between the lines of your BS story. The reality is you know as well as most of us already know, there is no substance, nor justification in your complaining.

There was a case very recently of a woman who died in a New York Hospital ED and had seizures, and apparently ignored by inspection of hospital surveillance tapes. (I'm going to guess that you heard of this case, and maybe you thought you would bring your little Broadway act for Shands to see.) This was a TRUE tagedy, and the exception to the rule that the majority of people receive responsive, quality care at the ED, although long wait times are universal across the United States. Long waits = many uninsured seek what should be routine care by a family physician, or other inapproriate utilization.

I suffer from brittle diabetes and have trouble controling my blood sugar. The other evening, I had to spend in the icu due to my sugar levels being so high. I spent over 8 hours getting treatment. While I was there, two pts came in one had a stroke and one had a heart attack. This slowed down my service, but this was ok, it was necessary at the time. I also did not get special treatment because I work there, I had to wait like everyone else.
I have been to other hospitals in this city and I am willing to say, yes I know that shands is not the Mayo Clinic, but I have had the Mayo Clinic treat my parents unjustly.
I have also been a pt at another hospital here in town (I will not hospital bash) they sent me home with a high blood sugar because the er tech did not do my finger check correctly. He wiped it off with alcohol and did not dry it off, so when he checked my sugar it was diluted and made the reading inaccurate. So yes you may not receive the "royal" treatment here at shands, but you constantly put your lives in our hands! And then complain about it.
No matter what hospital you go to, there is shit in every toilet!!!!!!!!!! |

After reading all of the postings about how horrible the employee's treat people at Shand's ER, I feel as if I have to add my two cents also.

First I would Like to commend my co-workers that show up for work every single day and are abused by the patients and worked to death daily. I know for a fact what it takes to work there and only the best are able to handle the volume and pace of our department.

If you consider the number of patients we treat everyday from walk-in's to rescues and private ambulances from several counties along with the patients brought in from the jail for treatment and the Baker Acts the police bring in, the fact that you could only find one other guy ( who I will address in a moment) to get on a website and rant about being mistreated sorta shows that we are doing something right.

I cannot comment on the lady with the issues about Labor and delivery because I do not work in that department.

As for the guy who is making threats I will start by reminding you it is a felony to assault a health care worker (you stated you kicked a doctor) the fact that you were put in restraints temporarily and did not get a jail sentence is sad. We do not enjoy restraining patients but what would you do if I came to you for a service where you worked and cussed you out and kicked you???? how would you act? It is for the safety of everyone from the staff to the other patients crammed into our emergency room and also to protect you.... So you sir really piss me off. You claim to have been stoned or high or whatever but funny I was not there but you were sober enough that I know exactly which of my co-workers had to restrain you just based on your description of them... so therefore in your right mind enough to know better and the staff that restrained you were just doing their jobs.

I think if you ask around the community you will also find there are alot more people out there who are glad that we put up with people like you so that we are there to handle true emergencies.

My co-workers get the job done and I would trust them to take care of me any day. The employee's of our department can't make it a better environment or make there be more pillows, monitors, beds or staff. It is not our fault if the food is cold or we didn't have enough delivered. we can't change how long it takes to get a bed upstairs or how long it takes the lab to run your tests..... this being said we go out of our way daily to provide care and comfort and do the very best that we can to make these things less stressful for our patients.

I have no issues with taking care of anyone less fortunate then myself but it is hard not to be jaded toward someone who is clearly full of shit and wasting our time. I also was not working the night of your "seizure";however, thanks to your mindless ranting it is the topic of conversation at work. I know for a fact that not even the worst employee in our department would just ignore a true seizure and the fact that you were brought back to a chair and placed near the nurses station proves that your complaint(reason for ED visit) was taken seriously. As for you having seizures and just being left there that is not true. I know you think we are incompetent;however, you were surrounded by health care workers and I also know that you put on quite a show to the point that all of the staff working that night remembers it. Don't you find it odd that all of the people watching knew it was not a seizure???? why don't you ask patients who have seen how rapidly we respond to true seizures for their opinions?

Lastly, I would like to thank the patients who remember that we are people too and we are there as a service to the community and will continue to be there for those who are in need. We are professionals and deserve to be respected and treated with courtesy. I find it odd people would never dream of being rude to a cashier or a cook but will not hesitate to threaten and treat those that are there to save lives like crap.

I stand behind my Co-workers and know that we do all that we can so you can continue to rant all you want to because you are only giving us something entertaining to read and making yourself look like a fool.
| Gimme a "Shandwich"! I'm entitled to it! | Soliciting people to complain about a service they received at a hospital or clinic can be appropriate, if there does appear to be clearly malpractice. To the young woman with "seizures", you obviously have an agenda, and it may be malicious, for monetary gain, or simply like to complain to gain attention. I favor the later, since you presented to the ER not having any type of seizure actvity, and I believe the ED staff (I'm sure have dealt with real seizures) were probably on to your pathetic attempts for attention. Instead of soliciting "stories", why don't you and your spouse, whom seems to enable your behavior, seek a good family therapist. You don't develop "light seizures" although true there are many types. All involve loss of conciousness and may have a confused or post ictal period. Yours appear to be "pseudoseizures", and this is merely a form of fictitious disorder. Again, please get some help and perhaps develop some insight. You might understand a nurse perhaps being somewhat short with you or your husband if they feel you are taking up an extraordinary amount of time having multiple fake seizures, when they have true urgencies and emergencies requiring their attention. To anyone else that has been treated badly or has a real complaint:

- Contact the facilty patient contact representative and make your dis-satisfaction known and the circumstances surrounding it. It will be investigated and you should be apprised of the findings. These are opportunities for facilities to make changes. Give them a chance to make things right or get you the answers.
- If you believe it is more serious, ALSO contact an attorney and get legal advice and representation. Most intelligent people can discern frivilous complaining from malpractice.

Allow the real victems a means to be heard and/or compensated without predjudice or bias. Complaints such as yours are what irritate many professionals in the health care indusrty, as well as patients that truly have been injured. | I just want to thank all of you for your opinion on shands..... Take care and remember if you have a story post it.
| Do you work at Shands ? In your last post you mention you was a nurse.Which by the way I do not believe. I do want you to know it is YOU and people like you that gives Shands a bad name. The ones that go to Shands ER room are their because they need help.I don't care if there DRUNKS, JUNKIES,OR PRISONERS.They still deserve to be treated with respect.Another thing I would like to say : EVERY ONE WHO HAS BEEN A VICTIM OF SHANDS PLEASE KEEP POSTING.THANK YOU.
| You are such an idiot. You need to learn the difference between "have" and "half." I am also amused that you requested that anyone who saw a woman having a "seizure" at Shands on 8-18-08 to contact you, what a riot...
1. You dont even know what a seizure is...
2. How in the world would all those "drunk junkies and prisoners" know what one was?
I am so glad that your husband googled "seizues" and can now diagnose your medical condition. Since he is apparently a wikipedia M.D., why don't you just seek treatment at your home with your all-knowing doctor of a husband. If you hate Shands so much, quit your $5.00 an hour job, go to school (like those lovely guys and gals at shands) and get some benefits and stop mooching off of the government...and while your at it, quit faking seizures...
Get a life, you wont get any money from your stupid comments on craig's list, and nothing is going to come of your complaint to the hospital because they are meaningless, and a plethora of lies. Oh WAIT, I am sorry that was a BIG word...let me put it on your level plethora=a bunch of...
Get over yourself you ignorant idiot. | Hello

Thanks for the laugh! I bet they all have different fathers, and I probably helped pay your hospital bill via medicaid. Take some of that money you say you have and take an English class.

That way we may take your silly complaint with a little more than a grain of salt. On second thought, no we will not. However, you are correct that there are several types of seizures. Pseudo-seizures is one of those types. That is a fake seizure which is what you had. Anyways, I do not want to take more of your time. Starting around 5 p.m. on Sunday, the line began to grow. By Monday morning, the line to register wrapped all around the Arena and into the parking lot at Alltel Stadium.
“This turnout was bigger than I expected,” said Patrick Lynn, senior producer of American Idol. “The line is twice as long as I expected it to be at this point.”

Lynn said one of his executive producers, Ken Warwick wanted to come to Jacksonville because they have good golf and it was the home of the Super Bowl in 2005.
“We actually wanted to come last year, but we couldn’t do it, so we decided to come this year,” said Lynn.

On Monday those in line registered and got their wristband and ticket to be able to come back on Wednesday to audition.
“Everyone comes back on Wednesday morning and gets back in line,” said Lynn. “We bring them inside and then actually start auditioning. They sing from 20 to 30 seconds. I have 12 tables, two people each. They line up four at a time and sing one at a time. So, I have 12 tables that essentially have one person singing at every single table. They just have to make sure they are heard by the people that need to hear them.”

Lynn said moms are a huge part of the audition.
“We get a lot of moms who show up with their kids in tow,” said Lynn. “We have a very strict age policy, but we always like to take care of the moms. In Salt Lake City we had a huge contingency of pregnant ladies.”

Lynn said there are three rounds of auditions.
“This is the first round,” he said. “They come back in September for another round with our executive producers. Then they come back again for the last round with Randy, Simon and Paula. Hollywood week will be in November.”

American Idol will air in January 2009.

Florida Mom Laurel Yearwood, 27, of the Westside came downtown to register with hopes of becoming the next American Idol.
“I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember,” said Yearwood, who has three children Melissa 10, Hayden, 3 and Hunter, 8 months. “I grew up singing in the choir at my church, Orange Park United Methodist and I went on a mission trip with them touring the country singing for other churches and less fortunate families. It helped lift their spirits and spread the Word. I’ve been in a couple local bands here and there, but nothing serious.”

Yearwood was excited that Jacksonville was chosen by American Idol.
“I think it’s about time they came to Jacksonville,” said Yearwood. “We’ve had a lot of great talent come out of here and I think it’s about time that we get a chance to shine.”

Other moms who tried out included Tina Centeno who has a two-year-old son and her best friend Natalie Rowlinson, who has a three-year-old daughter.
“I grew up around music and I’ve always been told I could sing,” said Rowlinson. “It’s my dream and my inspiration. I have a three-year-old little girl and I want my daughter to look up to me. If I made it to Hollywood, I would thank God I made it that far even if I didn’t make it all the way.”

www.Florida-Mom.com | Look into a form of birth control. 4 kids at 22? | Hello to all! I would like to tell you about my HORRIFIC experience at shands. So I am 22 years old and was pregnant with my 4th child. I was around 28 weeks and started bleeding very heavily. My dr. was in the towers (across st from shands) and i called and she said go to labor and delivery. So i did. They called it 3rd trimester bleeding and didnt know the cause. So this goes on for over 2 weeks, and then my water breaks. I was only 30 weeks pregnant by this time. They admitted me into the hospital, on may 1st. I didnt go into labor, my water was just broke. So the placed me in antepartum where they left me with baby inside. On may 14, i had a nurse (well a student medical assistant), and she decided that she wanted to change my iv (which she wasnt allowed to do), but she does. IMMEDIATELY my arms starts to swell and get very hard. She leaves it in tehre and starts pushing meds thru it. I was screaming in pain, but she said that it was normal from the meds. The staff left me like that for 4 days. On the morning of the 18th I went into labor. I already had a severe infection in my uterus from my water being broke for so long. I had my beautiful baby girl at 3:00 that afternoon..............mind u still with this iv in my arm. Finally, that night when i went to postpartum, my nurse at 800 that night, asked mee what in the hell was wrong with my arm. By this time it looked like i literally had a football on the side of my arm (iv was where arm bends). She immediately sent me to ultrasound. I had a huge blood clot and a condition known as dvt.........which was cause by incorrect insertion of the iv and still pushing meds. They started me on shots called Lovenox (generic heparin) that I have been taking for 4 months now. If this clot breaks up it can go to my heart, brain, or lungs, and kill me. Also, my daughter was born weighin 4lb 5oz. with eye infection (from uterine infection) and also, in the NICU she started eating on her own.....then she didnt want to eat one time, they put a feeding tube in. The next day the dr ordered for them to try feedin again and only use tube if necessary. For 3 days, they didnt even try to feed her. I came to her feedings, and they would push it thru teh tube before i would get there, even if i was 30 mins early. I went to the supervisor,dr, and case manager, and finally they started feeeding her. My baby got out of that hell hole 12 days later. I was in there for 23 days total. Please........do not go to shands EVER I have contacted multiple lawyers that told me it would cost me more than i would win. PLease let me know if u can help or know of a lawyer that can help. I believe i should get some kind of compensation and the woman who did this to me should be fired. however, thats not always how the cookie crumbles | I went to the E.R at Shands 8-18-08 with light seizures. We knew it would be a long wait and did not mind. After waiting a while in the E.R I started to have a full seizure. My husband and brother was begging them to see me of course we was told no she would half to wait her turn.My brother then asked if they could find me a wheel chair there response was they had none.Of course during this time the seizures was getting worse.A handful of people in the E.R was begging them to take me back.My brother was able to get me a wheel chair.A nurse comes and wheels me to the back .While she is wheeling me to the back she gets my foot stuck in between the chairs.I remember screaming out in pain my foot. She then moves my foot. She takes me to the back to get my vitals. But before they get my vitals there asking me a bunch of questions. So of course my husband tells them to take me back and he would be glad to answer any questions. At that time I remember one guy in my face screaming for me to stop shaking he was trying to get my vitals. That out raged my husband and my husband told him to get out of my face. All this time I am still having a full seizure. The guy then sticks a thermometer in my mouth. The next thing I remember is someone wheeling me to I C U. Once again a man screamed at me to stop shaking and then asked me why was I shaking.I had enough strength to tell the guy I was having a seizure.I remember the guy wheeling me to the nurses desk in
I C U and told one of the Lady's I was very uncooperative .She then took my vitals. If you thought it couldn't get any worse it can.I then was wheeled to a couple of seat in the hall way and was told to get out of the wheel chair and sit in one of the seats.Of course I did so .I was left there with no one looking after me.I had at least several more seizures when I did get enough strength to ask some one for help to the bath room. This guy comes out with curly brown hair he never helps me up or any thing. He looks at me then ask if I was the one needing help I said yes and he said come on.This guy was so rude he left me there trying to catch up with him.I did finally make it to the bath room which again had another seizure in bath room. When I came out he was gone I then saw him in a small room he told me to go on he could see me so I did.I later found out this brown curly headed guy was my nurse.I told the doctor I did not want this guy touching me and to please find me another nurse. What I was told was shocking he told me NO and if I was going to be rude to his nurse then I would half to be asked to leave. There is more but will not go into it.Please if you half to go in Shands E.R.make sure there is some one with you.And if you do get a male nurse with curly brown hair be aware he is a very mean guy.
