<![CDATA[Background The Youth Policy Institute (YPI) is a dynamic not-for-profit organization serving the needs of low-income youth and families throughout Los Angeles. YPI operates a variety of programs supported by various city, state and federal funding agencies, including: Day Labor, Family Development Network and Valley Family Technology Project (City of Los Angeles), Computer Literacy and Training (CETF), Physical Education and GEAR UP (US Dept. of Education), Pre-school and After school Programs (CA. Dept. of Education), AmeriCorps (California Volunteers/NCLR), Bert Corona and Monseñor Romero Charter Middle Schools, Supplemental Educational Services, and others. The Youth Policy Institute developed from the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Fund and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency in 1983. Originally headquartered in Washington, D.C., YPI began operating in California in 1996. YPI now targets all of its services to the Los Angeles area, with sites throughout the city. In September 2008, YPI, along with a consortium of community-based partners, was awarded a new 5-year $2.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education entitled the “Belmont Full-Service Community Schools Program.” The purpose of the Belmont Full Service Community Schools Program Grant is to provide comprehensive academic, social, mental, physical, and vocational programs and services to meet individual, family, and community needs in the Pico-Union/Westlake community. Specifically, the grant will benefit the following schools: Gratts Elementary School, Esperanza Elementary School, Monseñor Oscar Romero Charter Middle School and John Liechty Middle School. The services provided through this grant may include projects such as: early childhood education; remedial education and academic enrichment activities; programs that promote parental involvement and family literacy; mentoring and other youth development programs; parent leadership and parenting education activities; community service and service-learning opportunities; programs that provide assistance to students who have been truant, suspended, or expelled; job training and career counseling services; nutrition services; primary health and dental care; mental health counseling services; and adult education, including instruction of adults in English as a second language. <![CDATA[ This agency is looking for several therapists who have the education, supervised work experience and specialized training in Applied Behavior Analysis to provide ABA therapy to Special Need children i.e. children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders who are either Regional Center clients and/or School District students. The Department of Developmental Services has made changes in Title 17 of the California Code of Regulations related to the minimum requirements for Applied Behavior Analysis services. New Minimum Requirements From the Department of Developmental Services • Possess a Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree and meet any one of the following: • Twelve semester units in ABA and one year of work experience in designing and/or implementing behavior intervention services, or • Two years of work experience in designing and/or implementing behavior intervention services, or • Is a psychological assistant of a licensed psychologist, or is an Associate Licensed Clinical Social Worker. • Educational degrees must have been earned at an accredited United States college or university. Minimum Requirements for This Agency • Must have an excellent work ethic and must be very motivated for this job. The therapist must be patient and must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral. The therapist must be comfortable working with children with autism spectrum disorders. • Behavior (ABA) Therapist must have their own vehicle in good running order. Must also have either a PC or an Intel Mac with Windows XP already installed. In addition, the ABA Therapist must own their own cell phone which will be used as part of their job. Job Description • Behavior Therapists are responsible for implementing Treatment Programs directly as specified by the Autism Services Supervisor. • The Behavior Therapist must arrive on time for therapy sessions and must finish services as scheduled. • The Behavior Therapist must attend scheduled Clinic Meetings and other scheduled agency meetings. • The Behavior Therapist must record data for the programs they are implementing. • When providing ABA services at the child's home, the ABA Therapist is responsible for having a family member sign a Daily Service Log at the end of each session. • Behavior Therapists are also required to provide ABA therapy to children within a Public School setting [ i.e. Public School classroom] The specifics of services will vary depending upon the treatment plan. The Behavior Therapist is also responsible for having the classroom teacher sign the daily service log. • Behavior/ABA Therapist will work on a part-time basis for approximately 15 to 25 hours per week. • Therapist will work in the Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, Mid-Wilshire areas, including Hollywood. • Most of the hours worked will be afternoon hours after 3 p.m. This is because the children are enrolled in school during most of the day. If services are delivered at school, the hours worked might also include morning hours. • Therapists are paid $18 to $25 per hour depending upon their education and work experience. • The agency also offers Group medical insurance, a paid vacation and mileage compensation. • Supervision of all staff are handled by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst employed by the agency. • To work for the agency, you MUST live within 10 miles from Glendale. If you live further than that, you will have to deal with Los Angeles traffic congestion and all of the negative side effects of freeway driving, particularly at close to "rush hours." • You must have excellent problem-solving and coping skills.
