Program Background: Au Pair Education is a new program that offers intensive weekend college-level courses specifically targeting au pairs across the United States (and open to all interested students) in several US cities. Au pairs are young adults (ages 18–26) who come from abroad to work, study, and live with an American host family for one to two years. Au pairs provide childcare for their host family, and must complete the equivalent of six academic credits per year while in the United States. The weekend course will explore three primary issues: 1) The students’ personal role in an intercultural experience; 2) American life in general including history, politics, traditions, diversity, and social problems in the US; and 3) The city where the course is offered, including what makes that city (Los Angeles,CA) unique.
