Still with me? I tend to like darker abstract not-so-literal music. Not goth, more like early Radiohead, nirvana, Muse, interpol, failure, autolux, Pink Floyd. Literal straight up music with no surprise/suspense doesn’t do it for me in general (yet there are times for that, if it's GOOD). I like the music/song to go somewhere, tell a story, musically. Yes, it’s nice that lyrics do that (and important--almost required), but for me, the music has to do that first. To me Art is more imagination than explanation, especially with lyrics. 1. Not looking for a Job, not a hired gun. I like to create, not replicate. You should want me for my creativity, not my skills. Skills are easily improved on, creativity is hard to ‘learn’. Not looking to be a human machine, that’s what hired guns are for. 2. I didn’t start to play music to become rich and famous, this has not changed.... 3 ....BUT, when I’m in something that has the potential for musical greatness, I’m not at all opposed to things that allow more time creating music. 4. Not looking to be Dictated (see #1), but I'm always open to suggestions and ideas. If I have to be dictated every step of the way on every song, then you probably need a different drummer (again #1) 5. I’m not a pro. I don’t have pro chops (yet, or maybe never…ho ho ho), but I strive towards something more important; Creative drumming for the song. That’s really important to me and it should be important to you/the-band. Sometimes it means playing very little (on a creative level), sometimes it means playing more. It’s more about ‘what’ I play as opposed to how much I play. The music links of my band showcase what I mean. It doesn’t mean I don’t work on my chops, I certainly do, but I’m not a ‘chops drummer’. If you're looking at drums as just the beat and b/u for your music, not an integral part of the song, then I'm not your guy, get a hired gun. 6. Egos? I believe in a band as a unit, creating on a level that everyone can rise to. When this happens, there is no need for egos and proclamations of who the talent in the band really is. Humbleness can be the mark of true talent, or at least it’s easier to notice it. ‘Star’s' or wanabee Star’s w/backing bands need not apply. Solo acts disguised as 'bands' will probably not get a response from me either, please don't waste my time. If the band is named after you, check out the many pro drummers for hire here on CL. 7. Not willing to move, relocate, commute. I live in Silverlake and this is the best area for the type of music I’m into anyway. The closer the band members and rehearsal space is to here, the better and more productive the band will be. 8. I tend to be turned off by the ‘All show, No go’ bands. The music should speak for itself. If you spend much effort and time on image, hype, logos, branding, etc., etc., then I probably won’t fit. Maybe that’s why I tend to steer away from bands with ‘frontmen’, flash, gimmicks, etc. The good news? I have a job that is flexible (to a point) I have a car I have mucho drum equipment and a good ear I’m not a flake I love music, and more importantly, I love to make it with the right band. I’m actually easy going and drama free, even if this ad suggests otherwise. I’m impossibly picky about music I want to play in, so don’t be offended if I don’t reply. Look for an article titled, "The Luckiest Busker In Britain." I'll produce a great sounding demo for you that will get you a recording contract, that is, if you're a good songwriter and can sing. I can program drums, bass as well as play guitar. If you're song requires a live drum track, I know major players who will work at reasonable rates with their own studio included. I've had success as a guitarist, producer and have written with with artists ranging from Joan Jett to Alex McEwan, Brian Wilson, Ray Manzarek, The Ravers, etc. First thing that you need is an arranger, (you might not know it) one who can help put your songs into proper order so that bored A&R types will sit still and listen for more than 30 seconds. I've heard many a good song miss the mark, as the chorus didn't happen when it should, etc. It also helps to be a great performer, but that's another story, although I can also help there. <![CDATA[Do you think SINGING is pretty complicated? Sure, if you think about everything that's involved in singing itself. The Phonation, Vibration, Resonance and Articulation...and all the "techniques" out there that claim to do anything about it, and sure, they DO something about it. They do it SO well that what I have to deal with all students in the beginning is UN-DO all the voice constriction, lack of vowel sounds, short range and almost inexistent voices caused by BAD teaching !!! Well, singing is a balanced muscular activity that is only developed and strengthened with certain specific and scientific exercises. So, if you ever think that maybe that lip roll, tongue roll, ney ney ney, bend over, push from your diaphragm, wiggle your jaw etc. etc. etc. doesn't really do it for you...or for anybody? And at the same time you where thinking, "well, he/she taught such and such, so it must be right...maybe it's just me, I'm not doing it right and I should go more often and give him/her more money" Well, the last 13 years I went to a total of 7 of the “BEST” teachers in the world, from Italy to England to USA, spending a total of about 50'000$ on something that just didn't work, and that ruined my voice to a degree that was almost UN-REPAIRABLE, to then finally learn and master the only singing technique that actually works. From teachers at the Opera "La Scala” in Milan, to the London greatest and ALL the USA celebrity teachers...trust me, I’ve tried them ALL. The voice teaching system is corrupted by a Blind-guiding-the-Blind method, and it’s been like this for a long time. This technique was known to a certain degree by the Italians in the early Bel Canto age around the 1600 and on, and continued till the last great tenors of Caruso, Gigli, Del Monaco and Corelli. The truth is that it all boils down to building your voice muscles, in one ONLY correct way. There are specific and scientific exercises to develop particular muscles in your vocal folds, which are the basics for pitch problems, low resonance, break in the Passaggio (bridge) and power in your voice. Everything in the opposite of what is "usually taught" out there. All obtainable from everyone, like building a body...Let me repeat that, obtainable by anybody. This method fixes EVERYTHING!!! Even people that could never sing on pitch, can and will sing on pitch. Italian Voice Teacher/Producer will literally build your voice to do anything you want to do with it.
