<![CDATA[Opie is a year old Husky-Jindo-Miniture Dobie mix. He weighs about 20 pounds and is 2 feet tall. He is good with dogs and children but I don't know about cats. This cute boy was following different people in a south LA neighborhood. Finally he started following a group of women but they didn't appreciate his company. They started throwing stuff at him to make him go away so he ran to me. I forgot to bring a leash but he followed me all the way back to my truck and I wasn't parked very close. He was very gunky and had flea rashes all over his body. But now he's been groomed and frontlined and he's ready for a new home. <![CDATA[My boyfriend & I have recently come to foster (2) Chihuahua/ Miniature Pinter/ Terrier mixed puppies. They are adorable in every way, but sadly the time to find them a loving home has come. They are a brother/ sister combo, so splitting them up is out of the question. It’s a package deal folks. They are currently 9 weeks old and have received their first round of shots. They are close to graduating potty training, but do occasionally have accidents. Daisy & Dodger (those are their surrogate names) are extremely lovable and intelligent. We both wish we could keep them, but space & time is a huge factor that we can not divulge at the present time. At the moment both pups are at a sturdy weight of 2.5 lbs. and the vet estimates that they will reach a maximum of 8-10 lbs. <![CDATA[I still feel sick to my stomach thinking about this sweet boxer!! He is 2 years old and SO LOVING! But he had red open wounds on his ears and body and where his collar was! I can't imagine what he's been through! There were 3 other gorgeous pure breed boxers and the most amazing blue pit bull! He was so excited when I walked by and came up to the side every time! He just wanted to be loved and scratched on his neck. He was calm and mellow and just about the most gorgeous blue I have ever seen! Too bad he carries the title "pitt" there is such a stereotype about these guys - but they are some of the most loving guys I've ever seen! There was a big, mellow, sweet blue mastiff who would be a great family member! I wanted to take them all .. the only one who wasn't so friendly was a little min-pin (I was afraid of him! - go figure!) anyway, please go save these guys... you won't regret it!]]>

<![CDATA[I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I adopted a seven-month-old kitten from the Carson Shelter last November. He had the same issue where he could not be neutered due to an upper respiratory infection. I was upset since they had kept him two extra days (I went late in the afternoon when I picked him out) and he seemed perfectly fine when I saw him those two days beforehand. By the time I got him home, he was sneezing/coughing and had infection in both eyes. My vet checked him and his temperature was at 105 degrees. The shelter will let you return a sick pet in exchange for another but will not give you a refund. My kitten was also covered in fleas and had worms from them. The shelter does not do the deworming. I wrote them a letter stating that I think they should deworm adopted pets because probably all the animals there have worms from the fleas. The worst part is that I had to take him back for the neutering and he got fleas again. I could have gotten the neutering done elsewhere but the shelter includes it in the fee so I would have been paying twice. Sadly, the shelters are overrun and pet overpopulation is the fault of irresponsible people. Your kitten was probably already sick but just wasn't showing signs yet. A lot of the kittens I saw had eye infections and URIs, as did the dogs. The animals are treated for medical issues but those things are very catchy, just like pink eye or a common cold for us. They have little money to do much about it, and are constantly getting new animals in to deal with that also have terrible problems. The BEST thing to do is try to raise awareness, get these facilities the funding they need and deserve.]]>

<![CDATA[$400-$600? Is that what you are talking about? Well then yes, I agree. That is a bit much. I am sure there are people out there who consider themselves professional rescuers. I am willing to bet those people charge more to cover costs of the expenses they have helping ALL the dogs they rescue, as well as their personal expenses in order to afford them the chance to continue their work with rescues. I am not so keen on the idea of these people charging that much money. But, in the end, it is up to the consumer to make the proper choice. Don't support those people. I have adopted a couple dogs from a hell hole of a shelter to find them a home, and lost money on the deal. I have another dog who just isn't right for my home that I might need to adopt out, but she needs surgery. I 100% plan on paying for the surgery, and then eating the cost (around $2k?) just to make sure the animals needs are met. That is my personal choice. I know if a business was run like that they'd go out of business, which is probably why some people ask so much. That is THEIR choice. As a consumer, don't fall for it. That is the choice we ALL have. <![CDATA[what is wrong with my post for you to remove it?? i just needed help. on saturday i went with a friend and family to go to a shelter to adopt a kitten... i was told that i could not take him home that day because they had to neuter him. i called on monday to see if i could pick him up after work, and they said that he was good to go, but that he couldn't get neutered because he was under the weight limit. when i got there, he was sickly skinny. he was dirty from stepping in his own poop and kitty litter was all over him. the lady that handed him over told me that he couldn't do the surgery because of his cough... and they gave me amoxi-drops to give him twice a day until it was gone. i had asked them why he was so skinny, and they said that they didn't know. i asked about the drops and how to give it to him. i asked about when to come back to neuter him. and then i was on my way home with him. on the car ride back i was voicing my concern about him being so scrawny and sick. when i got home, i fed him and then found out he had diarrhea. we (my family) hung out with him for the remainder of the night and then went to bed. when i got up for work the following morning (about 6 hours later) i went to check up on him, to give him food and drops. to my dismay, he was in his bed, half alive... barely breathing. i frantically woke up my bf and told him that i thought our kitty was dying. i tried to find an er around here so that i can take him in... but it didn't open until 8am (it was then around 6am) and hour and 20 mins later he died. i called the animal shelter to tell them what happened and was told to bring his remains to the shelter so that i can talk to them there. the girl that helped me said that there was nothing on file that said there was anything other than a cough... said that i could get another kitten/cat if i wanted... i'm a little discouraged.. more so after i actually walked around to see if there was any that jumped out to me as my deceased kitten had.. to find that there was dead kitten in the cage. i was really just disgusted. the cages are all filthy there.. the kittens and some adult cats are sick and are supposedly on treatment. but it seems like all the animals (even the ones not on treatment) either have really bad eye infections, coughs, sneezes or diarrhea... whats going on with that?? i don't know if i will end up adopting there anymore simply because i'm scared if i bring another kitten/cat home... it'll end up dying on me. anyway... if there's anyway that i can file a report or something... please let me know... thanks guys. ]]>
