This is the model known as the “Big Crown” for its oversized winding crown and no crown guards. The dial and hands on this watch have a mellowed patina that is outstanding and very beautiful. Original case is stainless steel with dimensions of 38mm diameter by 16mm thick, along with domed acrylic crystal, screw down big crown (operating great) and smoothly turning bezel. Case is in mint to mint plus condition with fat and even lugs. Serial number of this watch is 307XXX dating production to 1957. Inside of case back is stamped 6538 and III.1957 showing that the watch left the factory in the third quarter of 1957. Original movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1030 with 25 jewels and adjusted for five positions and temperature. Movement is clean and in excellent condition and is completely free of any corrosion or breakdown of any kind. The dial features the two most desirable features of period Submariner dials: the rail track minutes chapter and gilt print.
