34 YEARS EXPERIENCE TEACHING PRIVATELY TO SEVERAL THOUSAND INDIVIDUALS. 20 of those years full time, six days a week (over 90 individuals a week). Each student had their OWN program based on their OWN GOALS not mine. That's what private training is SUPPOSED TO BE not just being walked through a slow bureaucratic "curriculum" especially for an instrument like guitar where you can have so many directions of styles and levels. To me it is absurd to think that the fundamentals of a singer/songwriter who mainly wants to learn to either accompany their own songs of singing should have the same program as a jazz guitar fan who's love for the guitar was discovered through listening to Pat Metheny or someone who wants to learn classical guitar pieces by John Dowland. These examples I just listed are just a small glimpse of possible scenarios that I HAVE EXPERIENCED FIRST HAND and that's why I list TEACHING EXPERIENCE far above everything else in my following abbreviated resume.

While I am very proud of my resume, the fact is that no matter how impressive a resume someone might have, it is a reflection of how the teacher has taken care of THEIR OWN GOALS it doesn't tell you if they know how to address YOUR GOALS and that's what you pay for. Now that I have begun advertising the value of experience and the necessity of adapting to my clients, other teachers have begun to claim that they are experienced and can do the same thing but these are skills that you do not suddenly reach overnight no matter how good their intentions and whatever school they graduated from. That's just a fact that every teacher and student has to accept and ignoring that fact is not a good thing for either students or teachers.

Transcription Editor for Warner Bros Publications for 12 years * Clinician for GUITAR PLAYER MAGAZINE * Staff instructor 3 years for at the NATIONAL GUITAR WORKSHOP (NGSW California Campus) * Transcriber for GUITAR for PRACTICING MUSICIAN, GUITAR SCHOOL and GUITAR WORLD magazines. IF YOU WANT TO LEARN FASTER, LEARN IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. MAKE sure information is RELEVANT and ACCURATE and that you know how to PRACTICE SKILLFULLY.

I have been teaching these amazing instruments for 33 years and it is STILL fun to play and teach. I charge less than what people charge at local stores who have less than 10 years experience because I want more people to be able to afford to experience THEIR OWN musical goals being reached which is a skill only a few experienced teachers even understand.

I use a very simple concept that CANNOT be found in any method or "curriculum" and is very difficult even for many experienced teachers to employ : IT ISN'T ABOUT TEACHING, IT IS ABOUT LEARNING. I do not make that usual mistaken assumption that you are hiring me for my knowledge; you are hiring me to use my knowledge to provide you with RELEVANT and ACCURATE TRAINING that is based on YOUR POINT A and YOUR POINT B. The keyword is "relevant" because this is where most teachers fail because they are either too reliant on following a "method" or "system" or they are too used to basing their definition of relevant on what's relevant to THEIR own goals not someone else's.

In spite of the bold promises you find in advertising, there is no such thing as a "fast & easy" tricks "magic method", "accelerated" curriculum or "instant guitar" CD ROM that can provide you with the same quality of training and opportunities as an experience private instructor who knows your goals, strengths, blind spots and your practice habits. All any of those products can do is throw everything at you and leave it to you to eventually figure out what really applies to you and what doesn't AFTER you have wasted a lot of time.

I always laugh when I see teachers claim that they will "make it fun" because guitar has ALWAYS been a fun instrument to play and no teacher can take credit for that. Unfortunately, many teachers have actually forgotten how fun it really is and their attitude causes them to make mistakes and miss opportunities to help you. Usually when teachers say they make it fun, they mean that they make it cute but cute is not fun. Fun is hearing a great guitar or bass part (recorded or original) understanding what you are hearing and then feeling those notes coming from your own fingers. but accomplishing those goals require a lot of decisions to be made that are beyond ANY assembly-line, magic method or system and inexperienced teachers do not know how to assist you with those time saving (or wasting) decisions.

BOTTOM LINE: I can provide you with your most direct path to reach YOUR goals, with or without the technical aspects that vary according to people's needs and ambition. I am uniquely qualified to provide you with the highest quality of training. Training that can save you years of unnecessary effort and time for the same or better price than the local storefront school where most of your dollars only go to store rent instead of REAL experience.

I take teaching very seriously not only as a teacher but also as someone who studied with numerous private teachers, many of whom were like heroes to me. They weren't necessarily the more famous teachers either. When I was young, not only did I wash dishes, bus tables and dig ditches to pay for the lessons, I often drove for an hour each way into LA to study with them as well. I did this prior, during and following my years as a music major and G.I.T. As a result, I am very thankful for students who show me the same respect with their dedication. I really hate to see people squander their time and effort needlessly while paying top dollar for lessons that should prevent this waste.

I have my students to thank for all of these years that I have continued to adapt and improve my own knowledge and style in a way that I am sure I would not have done for myself. As a result you will hire not only a musician skilled technically but on musical level in which I am just as fluent with new artists like Incubus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mudvayne, Nickelback, Green Day, 311, Rascal Flatts, Avenge Sevenfold, 3 Days Grace, Steven Curtis Chapman etc., as I am with the Beatles, Hendrix, Clapton, Led Zeppellin, Yes, Jethro Tull, Cat Stevens, Kansas, James Taylor, etc, while still keeping the fire with the technical wizardry of Steve Morse, Dream Theater, Eric Johnson, Tommy Emmanuel, Jeff Beck, Jaco Pastorious, Stanley Clark, Al DiMeola, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani etc.. As a result, I also have them to thank for why I was ready to accept assignments to write out their sheet music in standard notation and tablature for all music publishers which, in turn has provided me with insights into each of these artists that no other teacher can provide.

ALL styles and ALL levels BEGINNER * MUSIC MAJOR * HOBBYIST to PROFESSIONAL Technical and musical training combined to ADDRESS YOUR NEEDS. THIS IS NOT AN ASSEMBLY LINE!

ABOUT THE STORE/SCHOOL or "LEARNING CENTER"

While, over the years, I have been very fortunate to work for ethical, serious stores in southern California, I still advise you not to over-rate the credibility of a teacher just because they are in a store or “school.” There are many scams and greedy store/schools nationwide, who view teaching as nothing more than "real estate." They can either be a large chain store or an individual setting up a "school" or "œlearning center." They cannot find EXPERIENCED teachers who will agree to their high rent (sometimes as much as half the teacher's fee) so they fill up their "studios" using inexperienced teachers with the store's foot traffic by locking in customers before they have the slightest idea what is happening. When the students give up or burn out, they just keep replacing them with more foot traffic.

As long as you reward these store/schools by paying top dollar for lessons and they pay bottom dollar for the inexperienced teacher, they have no incentive to value quality and experience. This is how your lessons turn into more of a bad real estate transaction instead of an investment toward your own goals. Each full-time instructor pays more rent for that tiny studio/closet than a 3 bedroom house.

However, I should point out that teaching from home or driving to your house is not a guarantee of quality nor is a high prince. Most teachers quit working at stores long before they are really experienced and they they just teach at home or deliver lessons to avoid paying the excessive studio rent. You will NEVER find a good teacher who drives to your home. Inexperienced teachers often charge as much and more than experienced, dedicated teachers.

Communicate with your TEACHER before you sign up with them. Never let someone assign you a teacher or fall for the "free trial lesson" because schools just care about filling slots and try to lock you in with "sign-up fees" or "registration fees."

I should point out that there are teachers and stores who are serious about the quality of their teaching and repair staff. They are usually smaller stores that sell high quality instruments for all levels of customers. Their owners and staff might even be the teachers themselves. These stores do not try to prevent teachers and students exchanging contact information and they don’t gouge you for basic repairs. These stores want to stimulate sales to repeat customers with an experienced staff of teachers and repairmen while “assembly line” chains are focused on sales to the one-time customer.

One store in particular that I like in south Florida is Glades Quality Guitars on Hollywood Blvd. My idea of a great day is to stop by and drive them crazy checking out their amazing guitars.

ABOUT TEACHERS

Here are some unfortunate facts: Teaching is a completely different skill than just playing and only a tiny percentage of "advanced" great players are capable of teaching and only a tiny percentage of them even want to. It gets even worse; store/schools mostly resort to hyping teachers from that high percentage of "advanced" players who THINK they can teach just because they have certain degrees or went to certain conservatories or schools THAT DO NOT TEACH HOW TO TEACH PRIVATELY. To them teaching is a great gig to have until they become rock stars and when they quit to go on the road or to pursue their rock star dream, the stores think they can just plug in another renter to fill the studio. If you start over with another inexperienced teacher who has never taught, your price will NOT go down.

Most private teachers fall into two categories: "street player" teachers and "pedagogy" teachers and there are two types of street players; self-taught and educated. Surprisingly, they all tend to make the fundamental mistake of assuming that learning is about the teacher when it is ALWAYS about the student. As a result they're often looking in the wrong place for your solutions. The following is a summary of what to expect with each type of teacher if they have been teaching FULL-TIME less than 10 years and much longer if only part time.

SELF TAUGHT STREET PLAYERS might play in a band and even have some great touring and professional playing credits. They operate under the “What works for me will work for you” assumption which is like saying if you graduate from the 5th grade you can teach 5th grade. Unfortunately, they become a wealth of bad habits by teaching their “shortcuts” and “secrets” without realizing that are actually very well known and that there are better ways of doing things. They tell you to “forget about reading music, just play by ear” because that’s the only thing they understand. You risk paying to learn their limitations.

EDUCATED STREET PLAYERS might have training from private teachers, college and maybe even have majored in music or gone to the REAL Guitar Institute of Technology in California. It usually takes them many years of experience to stop assuming everyone wants to be a virtuoso, bogging everyone down with everything but the kitchen sink. They tend to struggle with diagnosis and over prescribe technical solutions to your training instead of musical solutions that are likely much more effective. You risk burning out needlessly with a lot of unnecessary drills.

PEDAGOGY TEACHERS might have a degree in music education and might claim to be “certified.” Unfortunately, “legit” pedagogy programs are extremely bureaucratic, outdated and still look at guitar and bass as non-instruments. These programs tend to rely on presumptuous, slow, mass training methods targeting class rooms because that’s where the money is. They do NOT factor in the most important ingredient for your success; YOU. If you are like that tortoise from the Comcast commercial and you want someone to slow you down because you hate learning fast, find one of these teachers. Otherwise you would be better off teaching yourself out of a book. You risk paying for someone to slow down your progress.

YOU CANNOT BUY EXPERIENCE OR CREDENTIALS: Watch out for music "schools" who boast of their "certified" teachers because they are not being honest. Their definition of "certification" is not what you would expect it to mean. “Certification” the way they use (or misuse) it would best be understood better if you defined it as an agreement in which all teachers in that school are required to teach "out of their book" which in fact, makes it illegal for any teacher to diagnose and adapt to your needs because the school's curriculum is what they are trying to sell. Their certification is all self proclaimed and a HUGE RED FLAG INDICATING THAT YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE INDIVIDUALIZED, PRIVATE TRAINING THAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT

THE TRUTH ABOUT CERTIFICATION: There is no such thing as any true “certification” of guitar teachers or private teachers for that matter, but there are various pedagogy unions where you just pay your dues and you are a “certified” member and they only refer people from their paid memberships. In the public school system, most classroom guitar teachers do not even play guitar. They have a teaching credential and they likely majored or minored in music department that revolved around the marching band or a pedagogy program that requires one whole month of each additional instrument. Other teachers, myself included who have graduated from the Musicians Institute (formerly The Guitar Institute of Technology G.I.T) receive a Certification but I do not consider that as a true certification the same way "music schools" and other teachers advertise it, especially since I know that it would be a deliberate attempt to mislead clients.

WHY IS MY APPROACH SO MUCH BETTER?

Before I began my formal education, I had many years of being self-taught so I know the benefits and drawbacks of both and that allows me to give you the best of both world and avoid the standard obstacles of both. I know how comfortable bad habits can be and what it’s like to erase those habits so that’s why I have such a passion about learning things correctly the first time and how to fix them if you have fallen into similar traps.

I don’t just try to keep you busy for a week I train based on your entire future so that tips and ideas continue to benefit you fundamentally that you can teach yourself efficiently as if you were still having the benefits of teacher. I operate on the premise that I might only have you for a month and during that month, I want you to be so happy with what you have gained during that time, that I will see you again and your friends and family. If I worked at some of these schools, I would be required to question the seriousness of anyone who takes timeout from lessons as if that means they are giving up on playing.

As indicated before, I have more experience, versatility and I am more resourceful and creative than entire store school faculties. While possessing a thorough “encyclopedi”; of knowledge to approach each subject from a variety of angles, I do not fall into the common trap of burying my clients with overkill and time-wasting "feel good" assignments that only cause burnout. I use my versatility to adapt to YOUR individual needs, strengths, weaknesses and goals instead of making you adapt to mine. As a result, I will provide you with REAL solutions that are far more effective than fake shortcuts or gimmicks.

Again, it’s not about teaching, it’s about learning. While I have shown my partial resume, truthfully, no matter how impressive anyone's resume might seem, it isn't what will help YOU. I have a LOT more to offer than a very impressive resume to connect you to your goals which is really what you are paying for. I would actually rank my experience above everything else in my resume because it is much easier to learn about music than it is to learn about people and you only learn about people through experience.

A private teacher has to know MANY ways of doing things because that “homerun” lesson for one student is a “strikeout” for many others. Only an EXPERIENCED teacher has a plan B, plan C etc. for every subject just in case plan A doesn’t work. Only a VERY EXPERIENCED teacher knows when to go to straight to plan C because they can tell that plans A or B will not be as effective for you.

A teacher who’s really just a player who teaches, only has to know one way of doing things; THEIR OWN WAY and if that way doesn’t work for you, you WILL waste your time and money. The odds are not very encouraging that you will have the same needs that your teacher had.

My career in publishing has provided me a very unique insight of what’s inside ALL of the wonderful methods, magazines, books, DVDs, recordings and programs available on the market. As a result I will never be threatened by your interest in these products or dismiss their value out of ignorance. I am one of the few professionals in the world who have had to thoroughly analyze, notate every note, syllable, chord and noise for recording artists of all styles from the 50’s to the present which have to pass the approval of the recording artists. As a result, I can provide you with a much deeper insight of each song that no one else can with the exception of the recording artist themselves.

If you are teaching yourself with all of these products, you might be shocked how much just one month of lessons can help you to sort out what is useful and what isn’t. Also, you can still benefit from someone who can diagnose any bad habits that you might be picking up. BONUS: There is not one single piece of ink on any of the books that I cannot explain to you, if you have ANY questions about the some of the symbols you see.

I will even say that you are better off teaching yourself with these LEGITIMATE products than you will taking years with poor training but I wouldn't say the same thing about the self-produced and self-reviewed products that are self-proclaimed as more effective than guitar lessons. They can only make that claim when compared to pedagogy style classroom instruction. Private training will always be more effective than ANY product, method or curriculum but ONLY WHEN IT IS DONE CORRECTLY. Those self produced items are just dust collectors at best, and MONEY AND TIME WASTERS if you actually use them.

If you have ever experienced rapid progress with less effort than you expected it is most likely because you have made very good decisions and if you have ever had times that you seem to practice long hours with no results than you are probably making bad decisions. You can make great decisions even if you are self taught and likewise, you can make really bad decisions with a teacher. Those are the fortunate/unfortunate facts.

Creativity and artistry will always be about decisions. These decisions can be; making goals, whether to pick up the guitar instead of the remote, planning a “workout,” or writing your own music and the decisions never stop. Do not surrender these decisions to habits or you will miss many opportunities. Do not surrender these decisions to a teacher either especially if they rely on their dogmatic assumptions and methods instead of taking the time to diagnose your “point “; and “point B.”

One of the wonderful things about both the guitar and bass is that they are versatile instruments that allow a large variety of approaches that CAN be successful but this versatility can also have a drawback; there is a very high risk of wasting time on a program that is great for someone else not you. It is a myth to assume what worked for your teacher will work for you.

An experienced and versatile teacher can save you a lot of time by helping you make crucial decisions of which of these skills are relevant to your goals so that you can avoid the "busy-work" of just working on skills "just in case you might need them." The burnout from enduring the boredom or uncertainty of their effectiveness is unnecessary. My three decades of TEACHING experience is how I help you anticipate both the benefits and risks of each of your decisions and it is also how I provide you with relevant tools.

Summary: If you need it, we will cover it without overkill, but if you don’t need it, I am not going to waste your valuable time and I will let you know why. This is why private lessons, WHEN DONE CORRECTLY, are the most effective of all of your options. If you do not want to change because you have paid a sign up or registration fee that you are being ripped off. Allowing that $20 or $30 dollars to stop you from seeking better training is COSTING YOU A FORTUNE and it is that psychology that storefronts use to lock you in with them because they cannot keep clients with the quality of staff they have. There is one place that charges $45 registration and they have the worst reputation for trying to lock their customers into poor training and pressuring them into buying over-the-top instruments at 400%. Another "music academy" charges you even more up front (hundreds of dollars) for "evaluation fess" THAT WILL NOT AFFECT YOUR "PROGRAM" IN ANY WAY! You do not benefit from paying those up front fees in any way and those fees are MAJOR RED FLAG that you do not want to trap yourself into studying there. As a rule that you can rely on: the higher the up-front fees, the bigger the rip-off and the more time and money you are wasting for POOR TRAINING. If you have paid these fees, don't walk away RUN!

If you have any questions, please email me through craigslist, colganbryan@live.com colganbryan@yahoo.com colganbryan@gmail.com or call me ANY time at (954) 931-9601 I will be glad to hear from you even if you do not sign up with me for lessons.

I do not use the typical, assembly-line, time-consuming methods or "curriculum" aimed at mass training. I do not need to use hype, gimmicks or typical false promises claiming to provide you with "secrets" that everyone knows that will make you learn "faster and easier"

I've been in this profession long enough to keep seeing all of these same "secrets" and "shortcuts" reappear over and over again and I often end up being the one that has to help people unlearn so many bad habits these "shortcuts" cause. What's especially upsetting is how many of these habits were actually learned as the result of investing a lot of time and money into a "school" or inexperienced instructor. It would have been so much better to avoid so many obstacles if they had just taken a month or two from and experienced pro willing to help them instead of spending years in an expensive and time-wasting school just because the place was conveniently located or great at "locking them in."

When people choose a "school"/storefront just because it's close to home or a teacher that "delivers lessons in the comfort of their home, it's like knowing there is buried treasure in their backyard but only looking for it their living room because it's more comfortable. It's very easy to sell comfort and every teacher knows that but REPLACING results with convenience is one of the most expensive mistakes you can make.

When I say experience, I mean TEACHING experience. I do not use the common tactic of padding my experience by combining it with playing and gigging experience to IMPLY more experience. I completely separate my years of playing (44 years) teaching (33 years), performing (36 years) and publishing (20 years) experience in spite of them occurring overlapping (no I am not over 133 years old). I am not just talking about the usual 10 or 15 years or less experience that you find at most stores, schools and online. I have 33 years of bringing several thousand clients from their point A to point B. IMPORTANT: I do not use generic labels like "intermediate" or "advanced" because those labels are based on classroom or group lessons and they are not specific enough for me to assist you. For versatile instruments, those terms are practically abstract.

Private teachers have a great opportunity to be much more precise with regard to your need and an EXPERIENCED teacher CAN be more much more resourceful in helping you exploit those opportunities. I say "can" help you because it also comes down to how that teacher has been growing, updating and adapting to their clients or if they've just been relying on a method to make all of the crucial decisions that their clients should be making. With me, your training will help you clarify where you stand and where you are headed much more precisely than any classroom, curriculum, method, software or most instructors can.

No hype! No lock-in fees! No expensive "evaluation". No "special discount packages" if you sign on long term. No attempts to trap you into permanent lessons or demands to buy expensive guitars. You will not have to compromise your taste in music. No software scams or inaccurate "Guitar Pro" tabs

There is nothing faster or easier than a direct path between you and your goals and a "magic method" or curriculum CANNOT give you that. Reading music IS NOT REQUIRED but if it is your desire I CAN TEACH YOU FASTER TO READ, WRITE AND TRANSCRIBE EITHER CLASSICAL, JAZZ or ROCK, COUNTRY, BLUES STANDARD NOTATION, TABLATURE, SLASH NOTATION, LEAD SHEET CHARTS. I have transcribed music for ALL of the major publishers and their recording artists and there is NOT a single symbol in ANY magazine or sheet music that I cannot explain to you thoroughly and fluently.

See brief profile at the following link

http://miami.learningguidenetwork.com/index.cfm?fa=show.school&pid=155759

Experience is EVERYTHING!

Skills available include:

Practice skills ( an art in itself)

Goal setting

Influences of YOUR choice of artists, songs

Technical training can include (according to your goals) reading standard notation, tablature, ear training, transcribing, arranging, theory, composition, classical technique, electric and acoustic techniques including fingerstyle, pick and hybrid picking, tone development, style and analysis. The main reason I say your training CAN include these items, I make every effort to make sure and express which skills are relevant to your goals and which ones are not. It's VERY IMPORTANT that you look at these skills and make sure that these tools are necessary instead of just collecting them just in case they come in handy. You' re taking private training just as much to determine what you DO NOT NEED just as much as what you do need and these decisions are not universal no matter how convincing a school or teacher might seem trying to convince you that their "magic method" is one-size-fits-all.

Beginners just as welcome as music majors, hobbyists as well as pros.

Music majors--I can make sure you are fluent with necessary prerequisite skills and knowledge that will enable you to ace any course including proficiencies. In academia, certain outdated concepts, like Solfege, fixed Solfege are part of the bureaucratic framework so it is important for music majors to be fluent with these skills, in spite of being worthless for professional or hobbyist situations.

Pro players--you can use your training to either amplify your skills or balance your skills that are being neglected as the result of your professional pursuits taking you elsewhere. A lot of my pro players travel a lot and I work with their irregular schedules. This also works well with those in law enforcement and fire fighters who have irregular schedules. It is a MYTH that everyone has to have the same time every week for PRIVATE TRAINING. I find it to be about equal the number of people who work well with a weekly deadline and those who do not.

Hobbyists--I'll help you sort through the sea of information available today and make sure you are focusing on skills specific to your goals. You do not just want to work on things "just in case" you might need them. Example: reading music has benefited me enough to justify the effort but that doesn't mean that you need to read music too. If you need it, it is a great tool but if you do NOT need it, then it's a major distraction and poor use of your time and effort. A forklift is a great tool too. I wouldn't suggest buying one unless you really need it.

Beginners--I'll make sure you're acquiring fundamental habits which will allow you to avoid the usual obstacles that people create for themselves because they do not know what's ahead for them. This is why you do not want just a "beginner" guitar teacher who doesn't feel advanced enough to teach beyond that level. They haven't gone far enough themselves to help you anticipate obstacles ahead so their decision making will be lacking.

TEACHING BEGINNERS IS NOT ABOUT MAKING IT EASY. WHEN TEACHERS AND PUBLISHERS SAY THEY'RE MAKING THINGS "EASIER," THEY'RE SAYING THEY ARE MAKING IT INCORRECT FOR NOW BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT READY FOR IT TO BE CORRECT AND THEN LATER, YOU'LL LEARN THE "REAL" STUFF WHILE TRYING FIGHTING UNLEARN THE INCORRECT JUNK THAT YOU HAVE PAID FOR WITH MONEY AND TIME.

EASIER IS NOT THE SAME THING AS MAKING IT SIMPLER WHICH MEANS BREAKING IT DOWN TO ITS SIMPLEST ACCURATE ELEMENTS UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO COMBINE THE ACCURATE ELEMENTS. IT IS ABOUT MAKING THINGS CLEARER AND ACCURATELY FROM THE VERY BEGINNING AND LEARNING HABITS THAT WILL OPEN DOORS FOR A LONG TIME AND AVOIDING HABITS THAT, WHILE THEY MAY NOT BE A PROBLEM NOW, THEY WILL BECOME A PROBLEM LATER LIKE A LONG LEASH THAT HAS SUDDENLY RUN OUT.

When it comes to teaching this amazing instrument, you will find that I take YOUR goals very seriously. That's how I got hooked on teaching, by bringing people closer to their goals and sharing how much fun it is to feel great sounds coming out their instruments. The majority of my friendships for these past decades have been built from spending time each week connecting about my favorite subject and that's likely why I have such a desire for people that I care about to experience the victory they experience through these amazing instruments.

Call me anytime (954) 931-9601
IF YOUR TEACHER SAYS "THE ELECTRIC BASS IS JUST A GUITAR WITH 4 OR 5 STRINGS" THEN I HAVE SOME IMPORTANT ADVICE; HIRE A REAL BASS TEACHER WHO PLAYS AND PERFORMS WITH THE BASS!

No authentic professional bass teacher who's serious about your success would misguide you with that assumption not only because it isn't true but because that attitude would prevent you from ever having any success.

DO NOT FALL FOR THE MYTH THAT YOU HAVE TO LEARN THE GUITAR OR ANY OTHER INSTRUMENT FIRST OR THAT A GUITAR TEACHER IS AUTOMATICALLY A BASS TEACHER EVEN IF THEY DON'T EVEN PLAY THE BASS!!!!!!!. There is no reason why the bass cannot be your first instrument and it is not a good idea for you to try to learn from someone who doesn't play the bass or who is self taught. In fact, sometimes learning the guitar first might actually make it more difficult.

If you are a guitar player, drummer, keyboard player or vocalist you WILL have some advantages and I will make sure you benefit from those advantages and avoid the disadvantages as well. However...speaking as someone who really plays the bass AND really plays the guitar, you would benefit a lot more by focusing on what's different about the bass from your other instruments instead of how they are the same. As a result, you will find your progress with both instruments accelerated and your skills amplified and...even better... your love for music will be radically enhanced even with music you have been burned out on in the past!

WARNING!: If you want to learn bass because you think it must be "easier than guitar because it only has 4 strings" than it will be IMPOSSIBLE for you to gain any benefit from taking lessons until you actually spend time listening to the bass and have fallen in love with that sound. This is important for parents to know when your kids express an interest in learning the bass. However, if they say they "just love the way it sounds and they don't even know why" then LESSONS WILL BE WELL WORTH THE INVESTMENT. Yes a teacher can inspire a change in that attitude, that is a VERY expensive solution that can be fixed much more effectively just by more focused listening. A MUSIC "SCHOOL" WILL NOT TELL YOU THIS FUNDAMENTAL FACT AND THEY WOULD BE VERY HAPPY TO SIGN YOU UP AND CHARGE YOU A FORTUNE IN "LOCK-IN" FEES, BOOKS, SOFTWARE AND SELL YOU AN EXPENSIVE INSTRUMENT KNOWING FULL WELL THAT YOU WILL LIKELY WASTE YOUR ENTIRE INVESTMENT OF TIME AND MONEY WITHIN A COUPLE OF MONTHS. The Spanish Intensive, which presumes no knowledge of Spanish, is always a small group, a handful of students willing to spend 60 hours in a short period of time - a few short weeks. The exact schedule (which days and which hours) is determined by the participants; as a result, we've had Intensives that met for ten days in a row, 6 hours a day, or just two weeks of weekdays-only, 6 hours a day, or anywhere to 3 hours a day on weekdays and ten or twelve over the weekend days - the course normally lasts 2-3 weeks. There is a real pedagogical reason for the 60 hours; I know what we can cover in that time - the centerpiece being learning and applying 26 verb tenses (including all the dreaded subjunctives), but there is also a VAST catalog of word-formation patterns, sentence types, and conversion rules from English. Those who take the Spanish Intensive are constantly 'creating' new words never heard before with great odds of accuracy, through very precise and productive conversion formulas, and routinely and systematically derive dozens of related words from almost any new one they meet; as a result a vocabulary of thousands of words is quickly compiled, as well as listening strategies and various ways of getting the same idea across. I've taught the course for many years, and it's getting better (and it's more FUN than ever!). There is a new Intensive forming now, and You can be a part of this group. The Intensive has been offered in the East Coast and South Florida over the last 25 years.

Learning a language thoroughly, of course, is a lifetime proposition, and what happens after You go through The Intensive, what kind of "daily diet" of Spanish You can work out for Yourself - hearing it in context, having opportunities for conversing - will determine the growth rate of Your competence in the language. We have put some thought into this, based on much experience, and we?ll discuss with You the best ways of creating a constant Spanish environment for Yourself - easier if You live among Spanish speakers, but it can still be challenging. I am a trained linguist (Harvard/MIT) with decades of experience in teaching and learning languages - and what I've done in this all-Spanish course is an adaptation of "field methods" from linguistics - powerful, direct techniques for detecting and applying the GENERATIVE CODE of the Spanish language, converting one language into another powerfully, thoroughly, and reliably; adults learning languages other than their own are in fact converting, however unconscious they may be of the process: but You will be thoroughly conscious, and fully participating in Your own learning.

The Intensive's many, condensed hours greatly speeds up this process. When You can detect and apply patterns, and understand their relationships, and are able to confidently and quickly convert an enormous amount of vocabulary from English (or even another language), it's a whole different ballgame: Your comprehension of spoken Spanish soars, and The Intensive gradually becomes conversational, as students can talk about, and not just understand, what is not-here and not-now - the essence of conversation. Some even speak of a point beyond which they "started dreaming in Spanish" or "started thinking in Spanish" - or (my favorite!) "not-thinking-at-all".

For the shortness of the course (2-4 weeks), the cost per hour and its method and comprehensiveness, You will simply not find a value like it anywhere in the US. It is way - way - beyond what You will get out of the best-publicized software and DVDs/CDs - it is simply the approach of absorbing and applying the "way-the-language-is-put-together"...

Hope You can join us!

Call me anytime. And best wishes for learning Spanish quickly and thoroughly!

Carlos Diaz el Profesor
786-346-5293
thespanishintensive@hotmail.com

THE MOST DIFFICULT SONG OR SKILL TO LEARN CORRECTLY IS ANYTHING YOU'VE ALREADY LEARNED INCORRECTLY. IF YOU WANT TO LEARN FASTER, LEARN IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. MAKE sure information is RELEVANT and ACCURATE and that you know how to PRACTICE SKILLFULLY.

I have been teaching these amazing instruments for 34 years and it is STILL fun to play and teach.

OVER 34 YEARS EXPERIENCE TEACHING PRIVATELY TO SEVERAL THOUSAND INDIVIDUALS. 20 of those years full time, six days a week (over 90 individuals a week).

THIS IS NOT AN ASSEMBLY LINE!

ABOUT THE STORE/SCHOOL or "LEARNING CENTER"

While, over the years, I have been very fortunate to work for ethical, serious stores in southern California, I still advise you not to over-rate the credibility of a teacher just because they are in a store or "school." There are many scams and greedy store/schools nationwide, who view teaching as nothing more than "real estate." They can either be a large chain store or an individual setting up a "school" or "œlearning center." They cannot find EXPERIENCED teachers who will agree to their high rent (sometimes as much as half the teacher's fee) so they fill up their "studios" using inexperienced teachers with the store's foot traffic by locking in customers before they have the slightest idea what is happening.

These stores do not try to prevent teachers and students exchanging contact information and they don't gouge you for basic repairs. These stores want to stimulate sales to repeat customers with an experienced staff of teachers and repairmen while "assembly line" chains are focused on sales to the one-time customer.

They operate under the "What works for me will work for you assumption which is like saying if you graduate from the 5th grade you can teach 5th grade. Unfortunately, they become a wealth of bad habits by teaching their "shortcuts" and "secrets" without realizing that are actually very well known and that there are better ways of doing things. They tell you to forget about reading music, just "play by ear" because that's the only thing they understand.

PEDAGOGY TEACHERS might have a degree in music education and might claim to be certified." Unfortunately, "legit" pedagogy programs are extremely bureaucratic, outdated and still look at guitar and bass as non-instruments.

"Certification" the way they use (or misuse) it would best be understood better if you defined it as an agreement in which all teachers in that school are required to teach "out of their book" which in fact, makes it illegal for any teacher to diagnose and adapt to your needs because the school's curriculum is what they are trying to sell. Their certification is all self proclaimed and a HUGE RED FLAG INDICATING THAT YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE INDIVIDUALIZED, PRIVATE TRAINING THAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT

THE TRUTH ABOUT CERTIFICATION: There is no such thing as any true "certification" of guitar teachers or private teachers for that matter, but there are various pedagogy unions where you just pay your dues and you are a "certified" member and they only refer people from their paid memberships.

I operate on the premise that I might only have you for a month and during that month, I want you to be so happy with what you have gained during that time, that I will see you again and your friends and family. If I worked at some of these schools, I would be required to question the seriousness of anyone who takes timeout from lessons as if that means they are giving up on playing.

As indicated before, I have more experience, versatility and I am more resourceful and creative than entire store school faculties. While possessing a thorough "encyclopedia" of knowledge to approach each subject from a variety of angles, I do not fall into the common trap of burying my clients with overkill and time-wasting "feel good" assignments that only cause burnout. I use my versatility to adapt to YOUR individual needs, strengths, weaknesses and goals instead of making you adapt to mine. As a result, I will provide you with REAL solutions that are far more effective than fake shortcuts or gimmicks.

Again, it's not about teaching, it's about learning.

A private teacher has to know MANY ways of doing things because that "home run" lesson for one student is a "strikeout" for many others. Only an EXPERIENCED teacher has a plan B, plan C etc. for every subject just in case plan A doesn't work. Only a VERY EXPERIENCED teacher knows when to go to straight to plan C because they can tell that plans A or B will not be as effective for you.

A teacher who's really just a player who teaches, only has to know one way of doing things; THEIR OWN WAY and if that way doesn't work for you, you WILL waste your time and money. The odds are not very encouraging that you will have the same needs that your teacher had.

My career in publishing has provided me a very unique insight of what's inside ALL of the wonderful methods, magazines, books, DVDs, recordings and programs available on the market. As a result I will never be threatened by your interest in these products or dismiss their value out of ignorance. I am one of the few professionals in the world who have had to thoroughly analyze, notate every note, syllable, chord and noise for recording artists of all styles from the 50's to the present which have to pass the approval of the recording artists. As a result, I can provide you with a much deeper insight of each song that no one else can with the exception of the recording artist themselves.

If you are teaching yourself with all of these products, you might be shocked how much just one month of lessons can help you to sort out what is useful and what isn't.

These decisions can be; making goals, whether to pick up the guitar instead of the remote, planning a workout, or writing your own music and the decisions never stop. Do not surrender these decisions to habits or you will miss many opportunities. Do not surrender these decisions to a teacher either especially if they rely on their dogmatic assumptions and methods instead of taking the time to diagnose your point A and point B.

Summary: If you need it, we will cover it without overkill, but if you don't need it, I am not going to waste your valuable time and I will let you know why. There is one place that charges $45 registration and they have the worst reputation for trying to lock their customers into poor training and pressuring them into buying over-the-top instruments. You do not benefit from paying those fees in any way and those fees are MAJOR RED FLAG that you do not want to trap yourself into studying there.

If you have any questions, please email me through craigslist or call me ANY time at (954) 931-9601 I will be glad to hear from you even if you do not sign up with me for lessons. You can also email me at colganbryan@gmail.com and colganbryan@live.com

You may have tried learning Spanish - to no avail.

Whether You've tried or not, You know that, the way things are now, You can't expect to nail ANY job in South Florida, in the foreseeable future, without being FUNCTIONALLY BILINGUAL in Spanish.

What this means is that You can say pretty much anything You need to say, and understand pretty much anything said to You. That's it – ALL VERB TENSES, 'creating' thousands of never-before-heard words, precisely and confidently, so that when You offer the 'wrong' word – and You will – You're still 'in the ballpark', You are understood. COMMUNICATION has occurred.

It means You know how to derive and use, EXACTLY, dozens of related words from almost any new one You meet – You know the language's GENERATIVE CODE, You have the tools to keep FOREVER GROWING in the life-long learning that is KNOWING how another language is 'put together'. You are confidently involved in Your own learning.

It does NOT mean that You'll be mistaken for a native speaker – anyone telling You that You'll be native-fluent in a very short time is simply lying to You.

It does NOT mean either that You'll be able to merely say-some-things-in-Spanish – what You get from any good phrase-book or from hyped-up software that has You repeating, without knowing HOW they are constructed, 'baby phrases' and 'baby sentences' (what disappointed bloggers themselves call them)...or from 'instructors' who are native speakers and little else...who haven't really analyzed how their mother tongue works, and may not be able to teach very well - but who've gotten people to pay them for 'instruction' – sometimes for many years...

We're talking about a revolutionary way to 'get inside' Spanish, once and for all....a linguist's approach - the constant detection and application of the target language's GENERATIVE CODE through powerful, direct, exact word-production techniques known collectively as 'field methods'...You absorb and apply 'field methods' in all-Spanish, programmatic classes here in Miami Beach...and You use Your already-the-case mastery of Your own native language as the instrument for converting back and forth to and from the target language...

I once had to 'crack the code' of a pygmy language in 72 hours while an international agency stood by...how would You go about this...?

THIS is what I'm talking about. You will not find these techniques used, relentlessly, in any other approach to learning Spanish in our area – AND, PRICES HAVE BEEN DRAMATICALLY LOWERED. These are VERY difficult times, and I want to make sure that anyone who REALLY wants to learn Spanish the FASTEST, SUREST WAY I know, is able to do so...there are always people for whom 'learning Spanish' is just an i-d-e-a...I want to reach those who are really serious about KNOWING Spanish, from-the-inside-out – who are driven to make this defining change in their lives...and who may not realize that it is possible to do so in a very short period of concentrated, focused,

I'm a trained linguist (Harvard/MIT) and I can take You to FUNCTIONAL FLUENCY, if You have the time, before the end of the year. Our tremendous 60-hr. full-immersion course, The Spanish Intensive®, is about to start...the Spanish Intensive ship is departing and...You can be on it if You act quick...the exact schedule of these 60 hours is worked out by the participants, including You...expect it to be a VERY small group of students...

Intrigued by all this? Call me – we also have other group and individual lessons, almost every day.

...and best wishes for learning, for KNOWING, Spanish, quickly and thoroughly – THIS YEAR...

Carlos Diaz el Profesor
786-346-5293
carloselprofesor@hotmail.com

Thank you for reading my posting.

I have been tutoring part time for many years and have been trying to make it a fulltime job due to being laid off years ago. I am very good at tutoring and can explain any material in an easily understood manner. I am honest, hardworking, and care about my students and their success. I get lots of word-of-mouth referrals due to the fact that I know my material, I know how to explain it, I get good results in shorter time than many competitors, and I treat people with respect, and I charge the same as many tutors that are not as qualified and/or do not travel to you.

I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to help you reach your educational goals.

My Qualifications Include:

* Over 15 years of proven success in the classroom and in private tutoring.
* Tutoring for ALL PARTS of ANY STANDARDIZED TEST
* Tutoring for ANY MATH CLASS
* Thorough understanding of material.
* Clear, consice, easily understood explanations of material.
* I am CERTIFIED by the CLRA.
* I have earned 4 MASTERS DEGREES.
* Patient, understanding, honest, hardworking, polite, and respectful.
* Reasonable rates.
* Very flexible hours.

Please call 561-352-4439 and leave a clear message for a quick return call. NO TEXT MESSAGES on this line. I think it is rude to answer the phone when I am with a student, so please realize that it may take a couple hours to call you back.

But in some cases they may cause the program to "hang"—become unresponsive to input such as mouse clicks or keystrokes, or to completely fail or "crash". Otherwise benign bugs may sometimes may be harnessed for malicious intent by an unscrupulous user writing an "exploit"—code designed to take advantage of a bug and disrupt a computer's proper execution. Bugs are usually not the fault of the computer.
