<![CDATA[I bought this pocket fencing last weekend. It had 50 feet in it. I tried using 10 feet of it for a temporary fecing in my yard. It worked great for my kids, but not so great for our dog.... he is a seriously compulsive chewer and ate it! Otherwise, I think it is a great idea and would have worked perfect for what I needed. Directions, plastic sleeves for posts and caps included. It has pockets every 3 inches for a fence post, so it will be a perfect fit. The country is more secure, as a Homeland. Taking your shoes off at the airport is silly, but the security measures implemented have no doubt enhanced the security. I cannot for a second believe that is is easier to commit acts of terrorism on the us today than it was eight years ago. National security is one of the only issues that GWB did OK on, could have been better, but overall it progressed for the better. And now for 3lmer - You are completely correct in the statement that the US automakers suffer from the cancer of the UAW. GM builds very decent cars, the Malibu compares well to the Accord or Camry in terms of fuel efficiency and quality, however the costs associated with the unions prevent GM from profiting on the manufacture and sale. Some people actually need, or prefer a large gas guzzler SUV. There will always be a market for them to some degree. However GM is spread so wide in so many different niches and brand names that they cannot focus enough to do any of them right. GM needs to die, as does any poorly managed company. The union will suffer, and the workers will suffer. However I believe this is is the first step towards fiscally responsibility for the Unions. Unions are ok, they fight for workers rights and benefits. However, when they get to the point that they are holding the company hostage for ransoms in the form of huge retirements and lavish benefits, they have to be put in check. A union left unchecked will bleed the company dry, and bankrupt it. Just like GM. Just like Milw. County. It will happen again and again. Only now instead of going on strike for more money, the workers will be put out on the street because the company has nothing left to give them. So the Union that fought for the workers now put the workers out of a job. I'm not saying Unions are bad.... they just need to be fair. Not over-reach and take everything they can get their hands on. For the UAW and the other large unions to survive, they will need to reform. To adapt to the difficult times and conditions and offer the companies concessions. not because they want to, but because they need to for the good of the company. Too often unions view the companies as the enemy. They need to realize that the success of the union is dependent upon the success of the company. B-]]>

<![CDATA[I like that the politicians are telling the auto industry that we will consider giving you this 25 billion dollar loan if you show us a plan on how you’re going to be successful in the future. Makes sense. Any other business wanting a loan better have a good business plan to show the bank as to how they’re going to pay it back. And if the American auto makers keep doing the same thing, they’re not a viable risk in my book. It’s not surprising to me that the American auto industry is struggling. Other manufacturing industries have left America long ago for the cheap overseas labor. Take furniture for example. Most furniture is made overseas and it’s far less superior to the furniture once made in America. Sofas for instance, whereas American companies used to use oak wood for the frame and each section was screwed and glued, Chinese manufacturers use pine wood and put it together with a cheap staple. American furniture factory workers probably made an average of four to six times the minimum wage so even with the shotty work done from overseas factories, it still became more cost efficient for American furniture companies to start having their furniture made there. Now take the auto industry where plant workers probably make an average of ten to twelve times the minimum wage. But not only are the wages so much higher but they’re also putting out an inferior product. So how did they ever expect to compete? If the American auto industry is to survive, they have to be the leader in fuel efficient cars. They need to start making cars that make the Prius look like a gas guzzler. They still brag about cars getting 30 mpg which is ridiculous. They made cars in the 1970's that got that kind of gas milage. Some people will argue that we don’t have the technology. I think that’s crap. Some say the industry can’t make an all electric car that’s affordable or proficient, yet people do it at home in their own garage all the time. There have been some people with just a high school education and a set of Snap-on tools that have converted their own vehicle to all electric. And to all the ones who say things like, “Don’t pick on people with SUVs. If they can afford them and the gas for them, they have a right to drive them.” I won’t argue that. But if one day we finally go to all electric cars, there will still be many different models including SUVs. Sure the SUVs will take more electricity and cost more to buy, they just won’t be using gasoline. I think the problem with that idea is because the auto industry has always been in bed with the oil companies. I think they could have been making much better cars a long time ago but couldn’t because of this relationship with big oil. The question is, if they’re given this loan from taxpayer’s money, will the oil industry still be given more loyalty than the American public? LIB - 1 ]]>

I don't refuse to understand your argument - I simply disagree with it, as there is no logical basis on which to form your argument. I agree that perhaps some people with very strong anti-Obama views may have pulled money out of certain stocks with Obama's victory, but nowhere near enough to put the market in its current state (the state at which it existed long before Obama's election). The stock market is in its current state because millions of people are losing their homes, have no money to spend, the sub-urban housing boom is over and developers simply over-built. Now we have ugly, empty subdivisions on the outskirts of major cities and little towns. Another reason for the market's current state is gigantic layoffs and the effects of millions of jobs having been sent abroad via restrictionless free trade deals (a huge scar on both Bush's and Clinton's administrations). The middle class - the major spending class - has no money to spend. This is causing huge unemployment and has been doing so for months. The one area that may be being affected by Obama's election is oil stocks - but these are also incredibly low because of a total collapse of demand; because no one can afford to travel, and people have been parking their SUVs and trucks. Oil producing/exporting nations are in bigger recessions than the US - (see Canada, Saudi Arabia). However, I would be happy to hear an argument that Obama's election is affecting this because, perhaps of his probable unwillingness to drill offshore and his proactive attitude toward developing newer, cleaner forms of energy. An argument could also be made that oil stocks are down because of the forecast of bringing back regulation to the out of control speculators and manipulators on wall street that made oil go up to $147 per barrel in the first place. While pessimists (mainly conservatives) complain about the changes about to be made by the Obama administration, intelligent Americans will be investing in solar, wind, clean coal, and bio-fuels and will be a part of the next financial boom. While changing paths can be unsettling because of the uncertainty ahead, one must agree that anything climbing out of the current rut that keeps getting deeper and deeper is vital to our country so that we don't simply allow ourselves to get buried. My husband is usually done with work in between 2-3 so very rarely would she ever be there past 3. Because of the flexibility in hours, we also need someone who is flexible.
