<![CDATA[Hi there, :) I am a female in my mid-twenties seeking another female in the Chomedey area to take walks with. I will admit, I am not so much the gym type and lead a more sedentary life than is good for me. I would like to incorporate exercise more regularly into my life, mainly for my health but also to help lose a few excess pounds, and one of the things I would like to do for cardio is to walk more. In trying to stay motivated, I thought having a walking partner could really help. It would also make for a safer walk and could be a nice opportunity to talk and get to know someone new. And of course it is free! Ideally, I would like to start by January, and would like to walk for about 30 minutes (moderate to brisk - maybe 15 minutes of each), three times per week (ex.: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, or whichever days are most convenient), but it can be once a week to start, to accomodate our schedules and to see how it goes. It could also be based on a certain number of miles or kilometres if that could help. And maybe eventually we could add some jogging into the routine. Also, if you have a dog and would like to bring him/her along, that's no problem at all. I know it can also be a little bit tougher to stay motivated as the weather gets cooler, but maybe this could help. I know it may not always be possible, but I would like to try to make a commitment to stick to it as much as possible, and push myself when I may not feel like it, and I think having someone else involved would be a motivating factor. If you are in a similar position and are interested in having someone to walk with, please feel free to contact me and tell me a little bit about yourself and why this interests you. I know it can be awkward to think of planning a routine like this with someone you don't know - this is new for me, too - so I thought it might be a good idea to meet for coffee first and see how we feel. And who knows, maybe a friendship could develop from this, something I am certainly open to but am not going into expecting. I understand things like that can't be forced. I just think the important thing is that we are both on similar levels when it comes to our fitness/exercise goals, commitment, mutual support and flexibility and understanding. If you have any ideas as to where to walk, please feel free to share as I am a bit at a loss when it comes to this part, though I think it might be better in less secluded areas. I would describe myself as someone who is sincere and personable, but I can also be quiet when first getting to know someone and don't know if I am so great at making conversation all the time (I hope this doesn't come across as uptight or unwelcoming) but I do care to get to know you. <![CDATA[Hello friends, I hope October was a month full of good things for everyone. Johanne and I have just returned from our very delightful—but tiring—trip to Nepal. It was a very culturally rich journey; however, the food tended to be a bit bland. The region we were in, most of the food has to be carried in by donkey train, so the meals are simple and mostly consist of rice or noodles. Since getting home I have done almost else but cook, trying to regain those ten pounds I burnt off trekking. Our schedules are tight in Nov but we want to make up for lost time, so we will be hosting a fun and relaxed dinner this Saturday. As we have so many stories to tell from our trip, we were wondering what experiences other people had to share from their own travels. Dinner and Discussion Group Hello, some of the greatest moments in life are spent enjoying fine food gathered with good friends to discuss and debate with. Sadly we often become too consumed with our own life and media toys to slow down and enjoy the company and insight that is generated by a dinner table discussion. Cooking also gets degraded to a question of speed and convenience at the cost of real flavor and quality. Right or wrong we are all guilty of making microwavable meals in front of the TV a normal routine. The Insightful Palate Dinner Group proposes taking a stand and giving the extra time and effort to create a night with more flavor and thought. Our group gathers in one of its member’s homes and offers a friendly environment to share food and discussion. Most nights are potlucks with everyone bringing their favorite dishes. A general theme for the food is picked: home cooking, exotic world or wine and cheese, and the hosts try to coordinate so everything blends together. Great food is loved and cherished by many of our members, so the offerings are often creative and always exquisite. Still those who have more of a love than a skill for food are always welcome to bring beverages or desserts instead. A topic of discussion is chosen well in advance to give everyone a chance to prepare. Popular topics have been philosophical books, the Iraq War and religion, but light topics such as what is “love” are digested as well. Every member is welcome to give suggestions for new topics. Over our savory dishes we debate through the night and try to gain a better understanding for the topic while looking for tangible steps we can take to help when action is needed.
