DIRECT OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES • Maintain the stability of all production servers (Linux operating system) • Maintain the stability of large VMWare vSphere virtualized environment • Installation, management and performance tuning of application and web server software (jboss, tomcat, apache) • Participation in systems disaster recovery plans • Backups on all system admin hardware in production, performance lab and disaster recovery environments. • Responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining Linux operating systems for Oracle Real Application Cluster Database environments (Production, Disaster Recovery, Performance). • Provide onsite support to internal and external clients • Assume project management responsibilities as needed • Develop and implement project plans • Continual development and reporting with Nagios alerting and monitoring tools • Keep all servers up to date with latest security and driver patches • Recommend new hardware for infrastructure upgrades • Continual automation of daily tasks through scripting and other provided tools • Support for performance and production environment load testing • Daily performance tuning of systems and Oracle database environments General Position Description • Troubleshoot systems that are not operational, determine source of problem and resolve • Work with technical staff and private vendors to resolve technical problems • Upgrade software and hardware on servers • Keep servers up to date with latest security and driver patch releases • Coordinate with technical staff throughout the company to ensure proper evaluation of problems and development of suitable resolutions • Coordinate system maintenance plans • Ensure backup and disaster recovery plans are implemented and tested • Maintain technical support documentation • Provide systems support to Database administration, Web administration and Network administration teams • Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS • Four-year technical degree or equivalent experience • Ability to learn complex systems with ease • Highly resourceful • Adept at working with Nagios and other open source tools • Strong knowledge of Linux (Red Hat, CentOS) operating system • Advanced Knowledge of SAN Storage devices (3par, Sun) • Knowledge of Oracle • Advanced knowledge of systems security practices • Knowledge of some sort of scripting. Bash, Python, Perl. • Strong technical troubleshooting experience • Working and conceptual knowledge of virtualization.
