Publishing Work On the publishing side, we produce about 20 new books, video, websites and other information products for audio professionals/enthusiasts, music business and other tech titles for major publishers in both the secular and Christian publishing industry. We work with a team of freelance writers, editors, tech editors, layout and design people and others to produce the books. Demonstrated skills as a proofreader and ability to use Adobe Acrobat Pro for proofreading and marking up errors could also lead to per-page payments on a per-project basis. Demonstrated skills at any editorial functions can lead to per-page payments for various stages of editorial work, but these things require that your college courses have some level of focus on related training areas such as journalism, English, etc. Very flexible schedule available in exchange for our non-paid, college credit compensation program will allow you free scheduled use of the recording studio for your personal projects to give you hands-on experience in recording as an engineer and producer. On the publishing end, you'll be expected to assist in creating and maintaining production schedules by entering important production dates, being in contact with authors and video service providers to insure timely delivery of masters or manuscripts, assist in reading over submitted manuscripts for first-look evaluation to advise publisher of acceptable manuscript and image submissions, contacting authors, editors and production personnel to remind them of pending delivery dates for various elements of product production, review audio and video submissions by authors and video content suppliers for any red flags with files they've delivered to make sure all elements are in place for sending to the editors around the country who provide freelance services. You'll setup and maintain contact databases, help organize and publish news release content on an Apple-centric pro audio website to insure timely publication of news stories. You'll get the chance to write reviews of new products for the website, ranging from hardware to software products on loan for review. Again, some aspects of the work can be done via telecommuting once the basic scheduling and other systems are in place. Studio Work For recording studio work you'll be expected to serve as a Studio Second, assisting in the setup, tear-down, mike placement, and signal checking for scheduled sessions. You may be asked to make coffee or order a pizza other things like that if needed by the client, whatever it takes to make them happy. You'll get to work on a vintage analog console setup for recording both in and out of the box, using Mac Pro computers running Logic 9, Nuendo 4, Digital Performer 6, Reason/Record, Ableton Live, Cubase 5, GarageBand (if the client request it), and on occasion, boot a session into Sonar 8.5 for clients working in Sonar on the PC platform (our Macs cross platform). You'll work with the MOTU, RME, Digidesign and other audio/MIDI interfaces, and the entire Mercury Bundle from Waves, TC Electronic PowerCore Firewire plugins, UAD-1 plugins covering most every plugin they offer for that platform, in an old-school meets modern-age recording environment. You should have a fundamental understanding of how most of the equipment works, and not be afraid to ask questions to insure you perform the task correctly. You'll wrap cables, organize cabling storage, make sure microphones return to storage after each session. You'll learn to troubleshoot setups for sessions, chase down bad cables, be involved in testing setups for sessions prior to client arrival to insure timely session downbeat times. You'll assist with mixing and some in-house mastering. You assist with the setup of a small new B-room for direct digital media projects running the same DAWs listed above plus Pro Tools LE8 through a 002R Digidesign Interface, complete with full scale keyboard controller and other input devices, work with automation on projects with a control surface US2400 from Tascam, and make sure any clients renting the B-Room are turn-key ready to use the room and maximize their studio clock time. You'll experience recording both spinet and grand pianos, Hammond organ and Leslie cabinet recording techniques, drum recording, vocal, guitar, bass and horn recording, backup vocal recordings. You'll learn to work with both the owner/engineer/producer on projects as an assistant for credit on commercially released projects, plus college credit for your term of service. Once you are 100% up and running on how our studio operates, you'll be able to bring in outside acts to record for free for college credit (or even allow them to hire you for your time producing them), based on an availability in the studio schedule. Skills Required: • Strong Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard Experience. We are a Mac-shop, with minimal use of Windows 7 systems, primarily using Macs. Ability to setup basic network connections, trouble-shoot network printer issues, and a good eye for planning how to implement various network resources from printers, scanners and routers. Use of Mac OS X Server is a REAL plus, and basic understanding of DNS would be awesome, too. • We need a Mac-geek for the most part who really gets the Mac. • Strong interest and basic operational level ability for using various DAW and currently enrolled in a school offering training in any of these areas from publishing, marketing, audio/video production, • Fast-learner hopefully already familiar with cloud computing concepts, mobile media, connecting to share calendaring resources and other organizational tools. • Social media establishment and postings to Facebook MySpace, and other sites, plus experience with basic to advance website work • Filemaker Pro experience would be very helpful • Assist with ideas and implementation of marketing strategies to attract more of the "right kind" of acts that we wish to work with in our studio. • Rudimentary knowledge of working with HTML, Photoshop and other website production tools. • Experience with CMS web publishing systems like PostNuke, Zikula, PHP-Nuke, Drupal and others very helpful. • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, plus the iWork and iLife packages from Apple • Ability to take the ball and run with it on a particular project with minimal guidance is a big plus, and some of the tasks may be done remotely over the Internet, such as updating websites and schedules. • Ability to on occasion attend (at our expense) any tradeshow or conference at which your support would be needed in some capacity • Able to help assist with travel arrangements for owners, a master at finding great deals on airfare, train fares, hotels, rental cars, and performing advance recon tasks prior to any scheduled trips. • Able to work 20 hours per week in a combined in-person and remote capacity with no compensation, occasional help with fuel costs, frequent free-lunches, and have no problem with making a run to stock the studio back up with coffee, sodas and other snacks/beverages if we need you to make a run. • Work in a non-paid internship with a minimum 90-day commitment for verifiable college credits. • Must have dependable transportation and contact ability using email, phone, and VOIP systems, with very strong Mac OS x chops • No propensity for flaking out, no accident-prone traits, and a healthy can-do attitude a must! Ability to pass a background-check and be trusted with alarm codes and keys upon satisfactory evidence of earning those privileges. • Provide recommendations from school instructors, counselors and others along with verifiable references that can be checked, no significant criminal history, and an extreme tolerance for liberal Democrats who often get into ranting about tea baggers. • Areas of studies that make a good fit include audio/video production, music business, journalism, music performance and IT area. • Must love music, digital content creation, have creative and fun ideas to show and help deliver on if accepted for position. You should have the ability to make a run to Guitar Center or any other supplier at the last minute if something breaks. In the event you have to use your vehicle to run an errand, you will be paid at $0.50 per mile for each mile, based on a route agreed to using Google Maps.
