The two men on board, a poet and a businessman, are pitted into two opposing views of moral responsibility as they argue about how to save themselves. A young mother whose baby has died in her arms during the night is also in the boat, and maintains a powerful, unsettling silence throughout this scene. The characters are saved by a ship that is guided to their raft by the phantom cries of a child audible in the fog. This voice provides the emotional undercurrent of the story. We'd like to use the text of Eugene O'Neill's play "Fog" (written in 1914) to comment on the disconnects of our modern society. Each show will include significant amounts of improvisation, as well as tight, dramatic storytelling. We are working with a choreographer and have combined elements of both theater and dance into the performance. We are looking to develop a performance language that can talk about what it means to live in contemporary America, with its noise, and detritus, and its sense of disconnect from history and from objective moral values. This is Eugene O'Neill for our times, and we guarantee you haven't seen theater like this before. Among the striking features of this work are unreleased recordings of Fredo Viola's gorgeous vocal improvisations (get a feel for his haunting music here: <a href="http://www.myspace.com/fredoviola" rel="nofollow">http://www.myspace.com/fredoviola</a> ), plus a playful soundtrack that includes messages in Morse Code provided by the audience. We are at a very exciting crossroads with this project. "Fog" will complete a trilogy of Eugene O'Neill plays, the first two of which were performed in Berlin. We are literally crossing the Atlantic with this one, and are hoping to start a whole new body of work in New York City. Very quietly, the downtown and experimental performance scene is blossoming, and we'd like to be part of the excitement with this and future shows. <![CDATA[So, long story short!: I have some ideas for high-concept jewelry. The trouble is that I am a truly terrible artist, and I'm going to need some help from a talented area artist willing to sketch out my ideas. This is a paid gig - the number I had in mind was $20-$25 an hour, which I'm hoping will translate into around $200-$250 per "idea" rendered. In my mind, that would work out to an hour spent talking to me about the concept, an hour gathering reference materials/other research, and 8 hours actually sketching/painting. For more complicated work, I would obviously be willing to pay more. This is a free opportunity to showcase your art and earn a living at it, 7 days a week. The Parks Department now has marked spots for artists. There is no charge, and no permit is needed. The art vending spots are available 7 days a week, from 6AM to 10 PM on a first come, first served basis. To get one of these spots, come to Union Square Park South (by 14th Street) and the PEP officers (Parks Enforcement Patrol) or other artists will show you exactly where to set up. The only things you need are a table, easel or stand and a sales tax ID. The size of your stand is limited to 8 feet in length, 5 feet in height and 3 feet in width.
