The kit is not complete. I have not counted the parts but will do so upon request. The exterior box is in excellent condition for its age. The interor is not in bad condition but the cellophane is torn underneath the word Engine and some of the internal cardboard is torn as well. It does have its instructions and guarantee papers. This will be a great set to marry with set missing the box. Plus you will have some spare parts. I was going to list this on ebay but really don't want to hassle with the shipping. However, if you do want shipping just inquire and provide your zip code. Otherwise, I am more than happy to travel a bit to get this to it's new owner. Email me if you have any interest.

Thanks

WHITE LIGHT, SILENT SHADOWS by Bruce Cratsley

First Edition in new and pristine condition.

For over twenty years, Bruce Cratsley has been producing intimate, mysterious, and engrossing photographs. The dominant theme of his work -- whether in haunting street scenes of Paris and New York, in portraits of friends and lovers, or in images of ordinary objects -- has been the interplay of light and shadow. While one sees traces in Cratsley's images of Atget, of Kertesz, and of his mentor and friend, Lisette Model, it is finally the artist's unmistakably unique vision which stands him apart. This definitive monograph encompasses the period 1976 to 1996, and illustrates how the photographer's personal battle with the AIDS virus has infused his work with startling sharpness and immediacy. At their best, Cratsley's pieces offer both vivid testimony of life's potential, and somber meditation on its fragility. Bruce Cratsley (b. 1944) has been a participant in the New York art world for four decades: as a curator, gallerist, photo editor of the Village Voice, and a Guggenheim Fellow in photography from 1989 to 1990. In the early seventies, he befriended Peter Hujar, who encouraged him to pursue art, and later studied with Lisette Model at the New School for Social Research.

RUSSELL LEE PHOTOGRAPHER by F. Jack Hurley
Introduction by Robert Coles

Signed by photographer. Book in good shape, dust jacket has some shelf wear top and bottom, badly faded on spine.

Russell Lee (July 21, 1903, Ottawa, Illinois - August 28, 1986, Austin, Texas) was an American photographer and photojournalist.

Lee had trained as a chemical engineer, and in the fall of 1936 became a member of the team of photographers assembled under Roy Stryker for the federally sponsored Farm Security Administration documentation project. Lee is responsible for some of the iconic images produced by the FSA, including photographic studies of San Augustine, Texas in 1939, and Pie Town, New Mexico in 1940.

Russell Lee is widely acclaimed as one of the most outstanding documentary photographers of the twentieth century. His images of American life during the Great Depression, created for the Farm Security Administration between 1936 and 1942, hold a preeminent place in one of history's best-known and most useful photographic collections. This famous body of work demonstrates Lee's extraordinary ability to reveal the humanity of his subjects and to become a part of the communities he photographed. It also displays Lee's superior technical ability—his legendary skill in using a flash enabled Lee to create some of the finest candids in the history of photography.

"Lee's quietly passionate images are masterful works. They set a high standard for a kind of reflective journalism that reminds us that a fine artist may tell you most about himself when he focuses on others."

—The Texas Observer

"Russell Lee's sense of the possibilities of photography was almost as generous, open, and democratic as photography itself. His appetite as a spectator was as wide as the prairie, and his sympathy for his fellows appeared seamless."

—John Szarkowski, Museum of Modern Art, New York

Less known than his peers of the Depression/FSA era (Dorthea Lang, Walker Evans et al) Lee's images stand among the best.

A valuable addition to any serious collector's library.

RICHARD AVEDON: AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY

Book like new, slight wear.

Fifty years of the life and work of photographer Richard Avedon are represented in this monumental work, which includes not only many of his most famous images (of Marilyn Monroe, the Andy Warhol circle, etc.) but unpublished photographs as well.

Whether they're models or mentally ill, Avedon's subjects are bizarre. Women look like drag queens, deadbeat poets are indistinguishable from deadbeat drifters, and everyone-even fashion fatale Stephanie Seymour looks just a little crazy. The insanity does nothing to distract from the riveting images, which run the gamut from corpses in Palermo's catacombs to the photographer's equally stunning first and second wives. Short of the artistic interest inherent in these works, they're a fascinating look at the latter half of the 20th century, from Louis Armstrong to former presidential candidate Eugene McCarthy. There are several self-portraits of Avedon, but every plate in this book attests to his unmistakable presence.

A one of a kind item. Unusual copy with signature and inscription to the owner.

LONGING FOR DARKNESS by Peter Beard

In one of the most dazzling - and unlikely - books of recent times, the lost world of Isak Dinesen (Baroness Karen Blixen) is stirringly re-created by her old major-domo, Kamante, the hero of her classic Out of Africa. Here Kamante gives his version of Out of Africa (related to Peter Beard and then translated from Swahili and hanwritten by Kamante's son), his inspired rendering of the fables Isak Dinesen taught in Karen Coffee Farm School, and his lyrical watercolors.
Here, too, are many never-before-published photographs from the collections of Isak Dinesen, her brother Thomas, and her great friend Denys Finch-Hatton, along with Peter Beard's superb photographic record of a world where - for perhaps the last time in history - true wilderness and true sophistication were one.

"I, Kamante Gatura, was a cooker in her house. During that life with Mrs. Karen I did drive to Nairobi by way of Muthaiga and compete with the best other cooks, going to the Norfolk Hotel, the Stanley, and the Tors Hotel, and the other called Queens Hotel. We traveled the Ngong road way. By then there weren't very many constructions as there are now. We could sleep in Nairobi. Mrs. Karen had lots of welcome friends."

"The first person to go to Mr. and Mrs. Barance Blixen to inquire for a shamba (a farming garden) was my father, by accident. He first went to chief Kinyanjui and said that we were going to Ngamb-aru's Shamba. But the Shamba we were going to was of Mrs. Karen. We reached there after a long journey from our old Njakai farm.

And it passed like this" Kamante Gatura

Born in 1938 in New York City, raised in New York City, Alabama, and Bayberry Point, Islip, Long Island, Peter Beard kept diaries at an early age. He took his first pictures at twelve and photography quickly evolved into an extension of his diaries, as a way to preserve and remember vacations and favorite things. In 1957 he entered Yale University as a pre-medical student, but perceiving humans as the main disease soon switched to art history, studying under Vincent Scully, Joseph Albers, and Richard Lindner.

Trips to Africa in 1955 and 1960 piqued his interests and after graduating from Yale, he returned to Kenya via Karen Blixen (Isak Dinesen) in Rungstedlund, Denmark. She was the author of Out of Africa, Shadows In the Grass, Gothic Tales and Mottos In My Life. Beard met Blixen through his cousin Jerome Hill. In the early 60s he worked at Kenya’s Tsavo National Park, during which time he photographed and documented the demise of over 35,000 elephants and 5000 Black Rhinos and published two The End of the Game books (1965 & 1977). During this same time period, he acquired Hog Ranch, the property adjacent to Karen Blixen’s near the Ngong Hills and made it his home base in East Africa. Beard has written further works on his African experience: Eyelids of the Morning: The Mingeled Destines of Crocodiles and Men(1973), Longing for Darkness (1975), and his most recent books Zara’s Tales: Perilous Escapades in Equatorial Africa (2004) written for his daughter and his latest book Peter Beard, published by Taschen in November 2006.

This is a First Edition and a very rare book, extremely hard to find. There is no dust jacket and slight shelf wear on the edges of the book itself. A very collectible book, very hard to find, great investment. Can accept Credit cards if necessary.
