Hello to everyone!
I'm Laura, I was born in Toscany and I lived in Milan, where I got a degree in Political Science and I graduated in Theatre and Musical Theatre.
A couple of years ago I moved here in NYC, and since then I'm teaching Italian.

I developed my personal approach to teaching, through Italian culture of theatre, music, literature, art and news.
I use my own material that I personally designed on my students, and I provide everthing you need.

I teach to small group up to 4 students ($18/$25per hour) and one to one lessons ($45 per hour).

Grazie mille,
buona giornata e a presto!

Are you taking the SAT or ACT soon? How would you like to improve your SAT score by 300 or more points or your ACT score by 5 or more points? Would you prefer to work with a professional SAT and ACT tutor who started and owns his own test prep company, or a college freshman or sophomore, with very little or no training and experience, who pretends he knows how to prepare someone effectively for the SAT or ACT and achieve fabulous improvements just because he happened to get an above-average score on the test??

I am a professional SAT and ACT tutor who founded a successful and leading test preparation and tutoring company in Buffalo, NY, more than 8 years ago. Currently, I am looking to expand my services and company to the New York City area. My first step in this endeavor is to take on a few private students of my own part-time for the SAT and ACT starting in March.

Here are some of my qualifications:
• Took an officially administered SAT twice recently and scored a perfect 2400 both times
• Most of my SAT students achieve improvements on the order of 250-450 points (with only 2 to 4 months of work)
• Personally trained dozens of SAT and ACT tutors, who have themselves gone on to help their students achieve significant improvements
• Taught previously for two national test preparation companies before starting my own business
• My best students have achieved scores as high as 2370 and 2380 and gained admission to the best colleges in the country, including Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Cornell, University of Chicago, and more
• My company easily produces the best average improvements in the Western New York area, and our numbers would also likely rank as some of the best in the country

What I am offering:
• Strictly one-on-one private tutoring for the SAT or ACT that covers all sections of the exam
• Complete personal attention and a course that is tailored exactly to your needs, strengths, and weaknesses
• I work especially well with high-scoring students (those starting with scores of 2000+), and I am great at pushing such students to extremely high scores (scores very close to 2400 in the best cases)
• I only have time for 3 to 4 students, since I will only be working part-time in New York City (that means you should call me TODAY :) )
• You get to achieve improvements of most likely 300-500+ points on the SAT and 5 to 7+ points on the ACT
• You may gain admission to your first-choice schools
• You can qualify for potentially tens of thousands of dollars in scholarship money
• I can offer a FREE first session/consultation session if you wish

I must warn you that my rates are expensive, but they are still competitive and not outrageous. You get what you pay for, and I can assure you that I am well worth the price.

Five years' experience preparing students for the LSAT games section has enabled me to adapt different approaches to working with students of differing abilities and backgrounds. Each student has the option of two general approaches -- either we work together on preassigned games, where I guide you to the correct solution using a Socratic method, or you bring the games that you are having difficulty with, and I will give you my initial approach to, and thought process used in, deriving a solution. Within each general approach, I can adapt my specific style to what works best for you.
| There is no dispute that Kaplan is a popular preparatory course. Kaplan has decent materials and intelligent instructors. Some of Kaplan's students improve their GMAT score significantly from the first diagnostic exam to the final preparatory exam, and go on to score 700+ on the GMAT. Those students are not likely reading this ad.

Unfortunately, other students are unable to keep up with the pace of the assignments or lectures, have conflicting work commitments in this most difficult environment, or simply are unable to remember the appropriate tips and tricks under the time pressure of the exam. In any mass-prep class, there is not a lot of time for the instructor to go in-depth on those questions which you do not understand. There is a certain amount of material that needs to be covered in each class. You may have ultimately found that you've parted with your hard-earned money, but did not meet your objective of successfully completing the GMAT, even though the course may have delivered exactly what it promised. You can sit through the same classes again, but you are likely to see many of the same questions, with the same approaches.

Do not despair. I can help.

On the bright side -- you've already done many of each type of GMAT question, and you've been exposed to a lot of the GMAT material. You need a GMAT expert who can help you to put all of the material into perspective, and help you to better understand the tips and tricks that you've learned -- not just memorize formulae, so that you will be able to apply the appropriate technique to each new problem that is presented. You will train in the use of diagrams, charts and logic to simplify the questions, and significantly improve the likelihood of your quickly selecting the correct answer.
I previously worked as the Boston Branch Manager for the private tutoring company MyIvyLeaguer, and have helped many students raise their scores significantly. I am currently a first-year medical student at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons and live next to the Presbyterian Hospital at 168th and Broadway and tutor at the Columbia undergraduate campus in Lerner Hall by 114th and Broadway.
Prior to starting medical school at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons this past fall, I graduated from Harvard College in 2009 with a BA cum Laude in Biology with an honors senior biology thesis completed at Harvard Medical School and a language citation in Russian. I currently have an interest in surgery, particularly orthopedics and thoracic. I also play rugby here, and in the past have played football, ice hockey, and baseball (high school), and guitar. I've been very involved with community service as well.
For the SAT, I teach both the material and also the techniques that help students tremendously. While in high school at Phillips Academy in Andover, I raised my scores to a 750 verbal and perfect 800 on the math after a classroom course and much preparation on my own. I take the best techniques from multiple sources and create an individualized plan that gives great results. Through my work with MyIvyLeaguer and elsewhere I have seen that one-on-one tutoring with a great tutor is far and away the best and most efficient way to prepare for this test. My recommendation for most students to reach their goals is a 20-hour complete course with 10 two-hour lessons, but there is certainly flexibility based on the student's individual needs. I try to be as flexible as possible, but courses and clerkships at medical school make the evenings and weekends my times of greatest availability.
THE PRICE IS $80/HR. The minimum lesson length is 1.5 hours, although I strongly recommend 2-hour lessons. Please email me to inquire more about pricing, ask any questions, or if you would like me to send my cv. I would love to set up a free half-hour consultation at the start of the first lesson to introduce myself, explain more about the tutoring, and answer any questions you may have. I look forward to hearing from you.

Exceptional GMAT/GRE Teacher :

• I have a decade of formal teaching experience, including five years of math and science instruction at a Boston high school where I enjoyed exceptional success with my students. When you love to teach, you do it well. I then went on to earn my MBA, graduating with high honors. I was then awarded an assistantship as I worked on an MA in mathematical finance, during which time I became a CFA institute scholar.

• For the past five years, I have tutored students specifically in the math sections of GMAT and GRE and done so with stunning success. My students often remark that they’ve understood difficult math concepts for the first time and find themselves taking their tests with new found confidence.

• Though the math required on the GMAT and GRE may seem daunting, my systematic approach will allow you to progressively master the material. By tailoring that approach to your individual needs, we will make sure that issues that cause you problems become strengths rather than weaknesses, so that, come test day, you’ll be able to employ your knowledge and achieve your desired score.

• In addition to using the Official Guides, I have an original GMAT/GRE math curriculum of close to 2000 self-produced math problems. These problems are categorized by topics such as rates, unit conversions, work, and percents. During our lessons, we will use specific problems as case studies to transform your knowledge about and approach to these problems. Specific, extensive homework assignments will follow each lesson so that you solidify what you’ve learned. Difficulties encountered in the homework will then be addressed at the beginning of the next lesson. The whole process is designed to strengthen your weaknesses and polish your strengths until accurate performance becomes second nature.

• A variety of diagnostic tests and tools will be used to track your progress so we always know where you stand and can track your improvement, while further pinpointing your areas of need. In addition, during our time together, you can call or email me at any time. I am here to help you succeed. Everything we do together will be built upon what you need at that time and how you learn best. I think you will find this to be the best educational investment you have ever made.

Please contact me via email. My schedule fills up quickly.

In addition, although it is not my specialty, I can recommend an outstanding verbal tutor for the GMAT or the GRE.

I wish you all the best, and I hope that we will be able to work together!!!

I am a professional math and science tutor who has helped hundreds of students. Many of my students have achieved success beyond what they ever thought possible. Numerous students have gone from failing, to getting A's on tests, in as little as two sessions. The majority of my students from the 2008-2009 school year achieved A's in their math and science courses. My love and passion for tutoring has grown into a nationally recognized tutoring company in which I have further perfected my methods and helped pass them on to others.

My tutoring style is aggressive; I am constantly analyzing what a student does and doesn't understand, using my mastery of the material to devise questions that facilitate understanding in weak areas. I am a tutor that truly has a passion for the art of teaching. Many of my students have said that two hours with me is better than a whole week in class.

TESTIMONIALS

"I found out about Adam because my little sister was using him as a geometry tutor. When I began struggling in AP Calculus my mom suggested I use Adam. I had no idea it was possible to tutor math all the way from geometry to calculus but in my first session with Adam I officially decided that he was not only the best tutor I had ever had but also the smartest person I had ever met. Every single question I asked him he knew the answer to and every single problem I showed him he could solve. Since I began using Adam my test scores have gone up significantly. He was so helpful that I also recommended him to my best friend who has also seen a significant increase in her test results. Adam has an extreme knowledge of all levels of math and is genuinely interested in helping everyone who he tutors not only improve their grades but also truly understand the material. I would highly recommend Adam to anyone who needs help with any level of math."

"Adam is truly a miracle worker. My daughter is a sophomore in a private school with a very rigorous curriculum. She has always struggled in math and had anxiety every time she had a test. After the first quarter this year I received a letter from her teacher that she was failing math. I was very fortunate to find Adam and after speaking with him on the phone I could tell he had a real concern for teaching students such as my daughter. He emphasized his passion for tutoring math and that he thought math was so much fun. My daughter was having her final exam in Algebra 2 the following day and worked with Adam for two hours. When he left he assured me that my daughter would get an A on the exam. Of course, I was very skeptical, especially having had other tutors work with her in the past and never receiving the desired results. That night I could see that she was feeling more confident and sure enough she came home the following day so excited that she did get an A on the test. Adam knows how to connect with students. He has the ability to turn something that my daughter thought was impossible into making her a success. Words cannot express my appreciation to him for not only teaching her in a way she could understand, but also giving her the tools she needed to continue to succeed. He really cared about her and even called the following day to speak to her. I honestly don't know how he accomplished so much with my daughter in so little time except that he has a very special gift."

"I hired Adam to perform a nearly impossible task: to teach math to my son, then in college, who had not completed a math class since the seventh grade due to severe illness. Starting in August, Adam had to bring my son to a point where he could test into his grade level (then a sophomore in college) which would allow him to take and succeed in the required math classes to qualify for transfer to a major four-year university in California: all in 6 months. My son did test well enough to take both Pre-Calculus and Statistics in the Spring semester and I am proud to say that with Adam's continued help he earned a B and an A in those classes. I cannot recommend Adam highly enough."

"Adam is a phenomenal tutor. He is one of the few people who has the natural gift of teaching. He is intelligent, clear and engaging. He not only inspires me to learn, but he makes each session enjoyable and exciting. If asked, I would strongly suggest that he pursue a career in education. But what is most impressive is that Adam took me from a person who had not opened a math book in almost eight years to someone who was so successful on the placement exam that I have placed into the highest math level offered. I have not only reached my goals, I have surpassed them. And this is all thanks to Adam."

"Adam was a truly excellent tutor. His eager and charismatic personality always kept me engaged even if the material was boring or difficult. He made sure I knew how to do a problem in multiple ways, including how to check my work on a calculator which proved to be incredibly useful. During the final 6 weeks of school, my grade raised from a C+ to an A- in calculus which would have never been possible without his help. He is easily the best tutor I have ever had, and because of him I actually started enjoying math class."

"We are so lucky to have found Adam. With his committed, creative and engaging personality, Mitchell's grades raised from a D to a B+ in physics and from a C to an A in pre-calculus in just six weeks. He was truly a great tutor for my son."

"I can't even begin to describe how amazing Adam is. He was such a blessing in my life. I had taken college algebra twice in school and was never able to make a passing grade. On my third try, I decided to get a tutor. I went through three private tutors before finding Adam. I wasted hundreds of dollars on tutors who didn't have a clue what they were doing! Feeling hopeless, I decided to give it one last try. It was then that I found Adam. In the end, he was able to take me from an F to a C+ in just two weeks. His ability to explain, what seemed to me like a foreign language, was incredible! He was able to recognize both my weaknesses and my strengths. He never allowed me to feel stupid; instead he encouraged me throughout the entire process. His easy-going personality made the whole process seem like I was meeting with an old friend, not a tutor. Words can't explain the gratitude I feel for him. Adam is amazing!"

"Adam was an excellent tutor! By continually analyzing my understanding, he developed a method to best teach me. Every session he inspired me to learn more and kept me excited about the whole process. He also has an unending supply of math tricks; they are so helpful. I don't know what I would do without him."

"I cannot emphasize enough how exceptional Adam is. I am in my junior year of college and have dreaded math my entire educational career. I have been working with Adam for four months in preparation to take the math course required for college graduation. When I began working with him I literally was relearning fractions and basic algebra. I was planning to test into college algebra, the lowest level course to fulfill the requirement I need for my degree, but after my wonderful experience with him I will be testing into calculus! He has a remarkable style that makes even the most difficult of problems simple and fun to understand. His enthusiasm and natural gift for teaching has turned me from an easily frustrated, math-loathing student into one who truly enjoys and looks forward to progressing in mathematics. Trust me, you will be doing yourself a huge favor by choosing to work with Adam. Your brain and patience will thank you."

Dear Adam

Aidan received his AP test results yesterday and scored a [perfect] 5! We are so delighted with his performance and the savvy way you worked with him this past school year. We found your personable style, consistent encouragement and strategic thinking to be a tremendous asset in building Aidan's skills, confidence and ultimately his abilities in Calculus. Working in the house on our schedule was invaluable for our busy lives too. The whole family would highly recommend you as a tutor to anyone who needed help in math. Aidan has a natural gift in this arena but is often scattered and unwilling to do his work. We saw a real shift in his approach, attitude and performance; and so appreciated the firm but friendly way you interacted with him. It's not easy to work with teens and you have a real knack! Richard and I thank you as does Aidan - know that you helped our son in a big way and helped launch him into a deeper exploration of math. We will keep you posted on his progress at Evergreen.

My first degree was in Psychology. I went on to become a Mathematician and Statistician graduating from Cambridge, England with a BSc and MSc in Math/Stat. I've been teaching math and stat (from a theoretical and applied perspective) for around 10 years from undergrad to postgrad level in between qualifying as an Accountant, working as an Audit Manager for KPMG.

| Hi. My name is Edward. I am available to tutor throughout New York City and love working with people of all ages, levels and backgrounds.
A little about myself. I am a Certified Accountant by profession and worked as an Audit Manager for KPMG. I have over ten years international experience in Accounting and Finance, working predominantly in London, New York and the Caribbean.
Nevertheless, my principal passion is teaching mathematics which is reflected in my academic background. I have a Masters Degree in Mathematics. I am currently working towards Fellowship of the Society of Actuaries. My separate undergraduate degrees are Mathematics and Psychology, graduating with the highest distinction awarded of summa cum laude. I am on my way to Columbia next fall to pursue a PhD in Mathematical Finance.
I have extensive teaching and tutoring experience in Math, coaching students through to college level mathematics. I specialize in teaching those who desire a perfect or near-perfect score on the mathematics elements of SAT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, ACT and other Standardized Tests, want to develop their problem-solving skills for math competitions, or simply need to be challenged beyond their math classes.
Throughout my instruction, I apply my degree in Psychology to helping students develop a more cognitive awareness such that they learn what works most effectively for them. In addition to communicating the essential test-taking strategies, I aim to instill a mastery of the fundamentals and an appreciation for the profundity and beauty of mathematics. This is the real secret to long-term success in any test.
Thank you and I very much look forward to helping you realize your goals!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What towns do you cover?

I tutor in several towns. To list a few: Easton, Westport, Weston, Stamford, Fairfield, Norwalk, Darien, Rowayton, New Canaan, Bridgeport, Wilton, Easton, etc.

How much does tutoring cost?

The price of tutoring varies on the subject, level and duration. The higher the difficulty of the course, the higher the price. Sessions typically last one hour, however a price break is reflected for longer sessions. My prices will be cheaper than any of the tutoring placement companies in the area and I promise superior quality ;)

Where can tutoring take place?

Tutoring can occur in a library, bookstore, coffee shop, or even in the home of the student being tutored. I do my best to work with individuals to schedule a convenient location for both parties. Usually the location is within 10 minutes of your home. I will travel just about anywhere between Bridgeport and Stamford.

When does tutoring take place?

As a teacher, my tutoring session must occur outside of the regular school day. The earliest sessions start at about 2:30 and often I am available as late as 7 p.m to start a session. The weekends are sometimes available in emergency situations.

What does a tutoring session entail?

The type of session will depend on the student's needs. Often times a session will review new material since the last session, analyzing problem areas and developing remedies where necessary. Students should bring materials so that I know where the student has been and where the course is going. Materials from the students class are reviewed carefully so that I can develop a plan to meet the style of the student and the course.

What courses do you tutor in?

Odds are that if you are taking a math class, any math class, I will be able to help.
If you need help with math courses besides Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, Pre-Calculus, or Statistics, I can still help you regardless of the material, so feel free to contact me.

Do you tutor future teachers?

I have tutored several prospective teachers. Generally the hurdle that future educators need help overcoming is the Praxis Exam and I know a plethora of strategies to help you pass.

I wish you all the best, and I hope that we will be able to work together!!!

hello from Seattle:
Candace
A few years ago I was walking down a Pier in Santa Monica and heard the most breathtaking sound in my life. Curious, I ventured around the corner of the Restaurant and found you there playing like an Angel sent to lighten my soul. I sat and listened to you for almost an hour. Honestly, I didn't want to leave for your music made my soul cry out... I can't explain why, but there where tears in my eyes. I bought one of your cds and ever since I have listened to it over and over. Whenever I'm down it certainly cheers me up. I play it often at work and others hear it and I tell them who you are. You are a very talented man. Thank you for sharing that. I wish you every success in New York!

Paul Thornton
Kubo san, I was fortunate enough to hear you play while you were in Sydney, near the Opera House in 2001. I must say that to this day, you are one of the most soulful and skillful guitar players I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. I am wondering, would you ever consider playing elsewhere in the States, particularly in my state of Alabama? It would be a great honor to host a concert for you in one of the many concert halls we have here. Very respectfully, Paul Thornton

Seriously people, this is no joke. Yesterday while I was at the Santa Monica Beach I saw the best classical guitarist I have ever heard playing at the end of the pier for tips. His name is Shogo Kubo and is from Japan. He studied in Spain for a year. I hope that someone can help him so that he can be performing for audiences around the world on a stage where this guy belongs. He is definitely a master guitarist. I am posting this here because I know there are many people here who really appreciate talented guitarists. I hope that anyone who is in the L.A. area and loves great guitar playing will go to hear this guy.

Are you trying to learn German and are tired of wasting time and money on German language books and software programs that promise fast results and don't deliver? Frustrated by your German class that is not focused on the skills you need? Ready to improve your understanding of the language, both written and spoken, as well as your ability to speak in correct and idiomatic German? Want a teacher who takes the time to teach you exactly how you learn most effectively?

I am a native German teacher with experience teaching the German language to students of various ages and levels. I am organized, creative and flexible. Because students bring different strengths to the study of German, I always create individualized lessons designed to help them. Some students have great pronunciation, but hate studying grammar, while others might learn new words easily, but resist speaking. I am able to reach many types of learners, so that all can succeed. I am in my twenties, so I can relate to teens and younger students better.

In addition to teaching lessons and classes in German language, I can teach German literature and translation skills. Germany is known for the arts, for its composers of good music, soccer, food, beer, wine and festivals, so I am happy to provide insights into all facets of the culture as well.

If you study with me, you will receive exceptional lessons, a combination of technical teaching expertise and friendly guidance and support. My dedication to exceptional teaching and individual attention is unmatched. I can provide many great references from students in NYC. I have invested in finding and developing superior study materials for every level. When I say, I can make German easy, I mean it!

Possibilities are limitless. Hints for learning note intervals by ear. Special arpeggios that are easy but very effective and secretly, to most, engulfed in theory. Learn impressive trills for the proper keys in which you're playin', easy hints for the left hand that will amaze. Special chords that give you a unique sound.

Lessons $50 / hour at his studio which can be outdoors in his beautiful patio setting or indoors; or $60 for home visits in or near Manhattan. The studio is a 4 block walk from the 6 train.

Once a week is encouraged but everything is at the students convenience. Many pros will have only 4 or 5 lessons.

Lessons are fun and relaxed.

***----Some student comments & praise:

.........."As a keyboard player who grew up playing synths, I've always been interested in the New Orleans style of piano playing. I've tried a few different teachers here in NYC, but still felt mystified by the New Orleans sound. Since studying with Willie Davis, I've made great progress in unlocking the mystery of this wonderful style. Willie is a kind, patient teacher, and has an incredible knowledge of many piano styles, and imparts this knowledge in a fun, useful manner.".................Joe McGinty
