<![CDATA[My roommate James and I live in the top floor of a three-floor apartment just one block from the Montrose L train (8 blocks from the JMZ, 10 blocks from the Broadway G). Our third roommate is moving out by April 1st. The room that is available is roughly 9x11, private, with two windows overlooking Meserole st. It has it's own radiator, and just outside the door is a rickety ladder that leads to our roof. The price of $670 includes ALL utilities, including wireless internet. (You will have to pay extra if you run your air-conditioner all the time though.) Only security deposit and first-month's rent required. There's no lease, just payment month to month. I should mention that in the seven years I've lived here no tenant has had a problem with this. In fact, it tends to be a blessing. Every few years, when the person wants to move out, all I need is half a month's notice. That's it. And I've never had to kick anyone out. I should also say that the location is safe and near just about everything. We have a good thai place, coffee shop and a Kim's Millennium just around the corner. It's a long but manageable walk or a very short bike ride to Bedford ave. Sounds great right? I think it is. The price is amazing, after all. But there are some drawbacks. First, the building is over 100 years old and is not well-renovated. The floors are old and ugly (except for your room - it actually has a pretty decent hard wood floor). Because of old-age and shoddy construction, it's nearly impossible to make the hallway and building in general look nice. Likewise, there is no living room, only a cramped hallway that connects a minuscule kitchenette and a rather large bathroom that overlooks our backyard (that's right, we have a backyard, but we rarely use it.) My roommate James, who has a 9to5 job, has the room closest to the one available. He plays banjo in the evenings (never past 10) and on the weekends plays his records sometimes till midnight. So far, this hasn't bothered anyone, as it's not all that loud. But you should know. Race, gender, sexual preference and style are NOT factors in our decision. <![CDATA[We are looking for a third roommate to take the vacant bedroom in our three bedroom Bushwick apartment. Our good friend moved to Portland for a job, and we need someone to take his spot. The room is available from April 1st through June 30, when our lease is up. The Apartment: The apartment is a boxed three bedroom with one full bath, and a large living room/kitchen in the middle of it all. We have a huge wooden table in the living room. It's fucking great. Us: Your room is next to one roommate (Male, 26), who is a grad student at NYU, an avid cyclist and skateboarder. I (male, 24) live on the other end of the apartment, I work a few nights waiting tables in Midtown, and I work a couple days down at a magazine in Philadelphia. I also skateboard (If you skateboard, you might want to mention that in your email). The two of us are good friends from back home in California, so it's a pretty social apartment (beer, rap, etc). On the other hand, we also have girlfriends (only one each) and spend a good amount of time at their apartments. So, sometimes the apartment is vacant for 48 hours on end. The Room: About 9' by 10'. with a window and a small fire escape (we're on the second floor). Also, there is a small closet for extra storage space. I used to live in this room, and it's great if you have a twin sized bed. The Neighborhood: I've loved living in this neighborhood for the last year and a half, and I don't even care for all the shitty live music you can hear right on our corner (Goodbye Blue Monday, maybe Bodega again one day), or further up the street at Market Hotel. There's a few other bars and cafes within walking distance, but The Best Bodega in Brooklyn, New Cibao, has everything you need. We're a short walk to Fake Bushwick (Morgantown) if you're into that scene, and maybe a 12 minute walk from the L Train at DeKalb. Transportation: I listed this as being near the oft-mispronounced Kosciuszko J stop, because we're technically closest to that stop, but I tend to use Myrtle-B'way to get into the city. I would recommend you do the same. At rush hour(s), the J runs express into the city, and it's only two stops to the Lower East Side from Myrtle-B'way. And you're paddling upstream when you walk away from your destination anyway, right? Right. Moving on... In closing, our apartment is great, and we have really cheap rent.
