Hi, and thank you for looking at my ad. I am a female director and am nearly completed with my feature directorial debut film. It was entered 10 days ago into its first festival in a major city and was accepted! Out of 2500 entrants only 100 were accepted. My film has had a wonderful response and so many who have seen it keep saying the same thing - "it needs to be seen, heard, shared with the masses."

My problem is money and resources to continue. The film still needs the audio to be cleaned and designed and the movie (shot on film) still needs to be color corrected. In addition, the film festivals are getting more and more expensive so I am hoping to find an investor who might be willing to take a risk with me and invest money into getting my movie where I know it will ultimately be - in the arthouse theaters. I can give back end compensation including points on the film and the opportunity to be apart of the fun and excitement of the film at the festivals, in the press, at screening parties, etc.

If you might be able to help me out or know someone who could, I would be happy to share more information about my film with you.

Thank you very much.
Goa was the former Portuguese colony in India. It is one of India's most cherished and prominent places for travelers since many years for its remarkable palm-fringed beaches; a travelers paradise. Groups of international volunteers along with a local group of specialists have been part of an awareness program all throughout the state for several years. This year again a volunteer project will be conducted but with a different theme.
The volunteers will be visiting the schools and rural settlements of the region to present the importance of health and hygiene awareness and the need of education among the adults and the children. The volunteers need to be very creative in designing the exclusive orientation for the people of this region. Volunteers who participate in this project need to bring materials and ideas for the program, after which the whole group will settle on a plan of action decided by the team. The program will be mainly in schools/orphanages where the management will invite the parents and the surrounding villagers to visit and absorb the message given out through the presentations and plays.

For more details, please visit: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-india.htm or give us a call: 617-502-0400 (US), 604-628-7400 (Canada)

This project is part of CADIP's International Volunteer Program: www.cadip.org

Support for disabled children on Bali Island
December 5 - December 19, 2009
March 20 - April 3, 2010

Bali Island is a densely populated island, with population more that 3 million people all together. The population is almost all Indonesian, 95% are of Balinese Hindu descent and could be describe as ethic Balinese. Bali is also a tiny, extremely fertile and dramatically mountainous island. It is only 140 km by 80 km. The tourism boom, which started in 1970s has brought many changes and has helped pay for improvement in roads, telecommunication, education and health. Though tourism has had some marked effects, Bali’s unique culture and custom has proved to be remarkably island. Bali disabled School was founded with the aim to cater for the needs of disabled children and youth in Bali and the surrounding areas. Moreover, this school is also aimed to encourage and motivate the disable children and youth to struggle for their future. We would like to host foreign volunteers because we believe that their interaction with the children, during education and vocational classes and other therapeutic activities will be of great benefit as our students have little or no chances to meet and live with people from other cultures. The intercultural dimension that their presence will generate will also be welcomed and valued by the local staffs. The support that the volunteers will give to our teaching staff, particularly those teaching English, will be invaluable.
The role of the volunteers will be assisting local teacher in classes like teaching basic conversation in English, helping teacher in giving training on physical activities of the disabled students like making simple handicrafts, playing, doing simple sport etc . Volunteers' influence on students is expected to create a sense of knowledge of other realities of the disabled kids and other cultures in a way that improves their own perception of themselves and what they can achieve. Also to open the mind of international volunteers that the disabled students also need attention to face their future. It will also give opportunity for the international volunteers about the treatment that should be done by the families of disabled children.

For more details about this projects, please visit : www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-indonesia.htm or give us a call:
 617-502-0400

 604-628-7400

This project is part of Cadip's International Volunteer Program: www.cadip.org

At first the pagoda was named Huyen Trang, but due to the roofs linking together with coconut leaves it got its name Chua La, meaning Leaf Pagoda. Today, in this peaceful and quiet space in the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City, the Leaf pagoda is bringing up orphan children and helping old people in need. At the moment, there are about 40 children of ages from 4 to 17 years old. In addition, there are 20 old people in Leaf Pagoda, most of them coming from the surrounding countryside in the South and have had a difficult life. Children have opportunities to learn and speak foreign languages with English being the most studied. They can also speak some Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. The standard of living here is low, almost all of their food is donated, and they only buy tofu.
Volunteers will spend time with the children and help improving their English, organizing games and other activities for them. Volunteers will also help redecorating the houses and classrooms, planting vegetable, cleaning the area. Think of the qualities of a great city - fun, space, clean air, nature, culture - and Reykjavik has them in spades. It has the features of a modern, forward-looking society which are complemented by a close connection to beautiful nature. The population of the Reykjavik Capital Area is about 200,000. Reykjavik is spread across a peninsula with a panoramic view of the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean on almost all sides.
In this time of the year when conditions are favorable you can see the Northern lights (Aurora borealis) glowing curtain of greenish yellow lights, dancing in the distance to a spectacular, multi-colored fusion stretching across the sky.
The world’s northernmost capital is framed by the majestic Mt. Esja, which keeps a watchful eye on the city, and the blue waters of Faxafloi Bay. On a sunny day, the mystical Snaefellsjokull glacier appears crystal-like on the western horizon, while mountainous moonscapes spread to the southeast.
The international volunteers will visit kindergartens in Reykjavik and introduce different cultures to the kids. One of the tasks of this workcamp is to prepare games, songs and materials for those visits and we kindly ask the participants to bring materials that we can use for the preparation. Unfortianetly when my spine collapsed 8 years ago it paralyzed my legs and made my lung disfunctional so now i'm on minor life support and because this all happened before i finished high school it affected alot of things especial my education i wanted to take programming classes online but the classes taught by those who work for sun.com charge a fee i can't afford because i make no money since i am under the care of the state and because the place i live in was ment mainly for the elderly i have no friends or vistors except for my dad, mom, and sometimes my brother. Also to show any of you who think i am just try to get something for nothing i posted my picture if you want more information about me just ask i will be more than glad to share my lifes been a hard road but i keep my hopes going so i don't mind talking to others about what happened actualy it's nice to have others to talk to since i spend most my days alone. To whom ever decides to help teach me these programming languages thanks ahead of time you'll never know how thankfull i will be for the lessons.

Depending on the need of the person, a doctor may advise using oxygen for part of the day, or all of the time.

Surgery is sometimes recommended when other treatments have not provided any relief.

COPD symptoms can worsen very quickly. When this happens, people may find that breathing suddenly becomes much more difficult; they may get a fever; experience more coughing and sputum that has changed colors. Be sure to get in touch with your doctor if this happens to you.

If you experience any of these symptoms, seek emergency help:

You have trouble talking or walking

You have a very fast or irregular heartbeat

Your lips or fingernails are gray or blue

Your breathing is fast and hard, even after you've used your medications

It's a good idea to put together a list which includes the numbers of your doctor and hospital, as well as what medications you're taking. Make sure you have the numbers of people who can take you to the doctor also, if necessary. Put this list in a central location, such as on the refrigerator. Let other family members know that it's there.
COPD is the 4th leading cause of death in the United States and around the world.

Material for this article was obtained from information about COPD at The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Website. I've never been a smoker, but, as I've seen many friends and family members struggle with their nicotine addiction, I know it isn't easy to quit smoking.
Now, more than ever, is a great time to quit especially because there are so many products out there to help you deal with your addiction. The hard part is finding the one that works for you. Trial and error is probably the best way to figure out which product will suppress your addiction.
In order to help you figure out where to start, I decided to look at which products are popular among our users. Prescription medications Chantix and Zyban topped the list, followed closely by the Nicotine Patch. One of the most innovative products on the list is ZeroSmoke, a pr oduct that uses magnets to create a pressure point on the ear stimulating the production of neurotransmitters in the brain which eliminate the desire to smoke. Other popular products include Nicorette Gum, Nicotine Gum and the Nicotine Inhaler.
Do you know of any products to help quit smoking that didn't show up on our list? If so, please tell us about them. Try searching for products to quit smoking on AOL Search or check out AOL Shopping.
Top Searched Products to Help Quit Smoking on AOL Search:
1. The landscape here is majestic, with fjord after fjord, towering above shore and sea, each and every fjord has its own distinctive character and tiny fishing villages nestle at their foot. It is an ideal place for hikers and all nature lovers, in summer and winter alike. Seals bask on the rocks, huge colonies of seabirds are seen and the king of the skies, the white-tailed eagle may be watching over.
The project will mainly take place in Nupur which used to be a boarding school in the past but now it is a hotel and a University. The cozy school buildings are surrounded by beautiful mountains with a view over the Alps of Westfjords and the blue seas of Dyrafjordur.
The area around Nupur is ideal to get to know the Icelandic nature. You can take a walk to Skrudur, the oldest botanic gardens in Iceland or hike in the mountains. The area has a great variety of birds and footpaths for those who are interested in Icelandic wild life.
The purpose of this project is to improve the skills of the participants to capture their memories in an unforgettable way. We will learn how to think about landscape photography from capture to finished image, your ability to create dramatic compositions will become more effortless and you'll learn about what might be holding you back from reaching your full potential as a photographer. We will also make some videos during those two weeks. In this project, you'll learn how to better express your vision and how to digitally optimize your images in such a way that anyone who views it will be attracted to the same qualities that drew you into the scene. We will work with different themes from day to day and every evening we will watch the photos together to evaluate the work. In the end of the project, we will put up an exhibition in a public place. The project will be leaded by an experienced photographer. You should bring your cameras with you to the project. We will also do some environmental work in the area during the project, for example cleaning the coastline and working in the green areas.
Project language: English
Age range: 18 and over

More information and enrollment: www.cadip.org/volunteer-in-iceland.htm or give us a call: 617-502-0400 (US); 604-628-7400 (Canada)

For volunteer opportunities in other countries please go to: www.cadip.org

All this sunshine has us thinking about just one thing: getting outside for a run in the park! How about you? If you're feeling the same, Team In Training would like to invite you to join us for one of our exciting new programs: TNT Fast Track and TNT Off Road. Think of these programs as an introduction to Team In Training with all the amazing coaching, unparalleled fundraising support, and fantastic social activities, plus a lower fundraising minimum and a manageable race distance.

About Fast Track:
Fast Track is a 5-week training program geared towards getting you in shape for the spring. Like our other endurance training programs, Fast Track includes group runs/walks, but it also features spin sessions at New York Health & Racquet Club(no membership required), yoga classes at lululemon, and boot camp clinics! The program culminates with your participation in the New York Road Runners 4-mile race, Run for the Parks, on April 18!

About Off Road:
TNT Off Road is an 8-week program that will prepare you to complete the The North Face Endurance Challenge 10K trail race. Runners can expect technical terrain and rocky footing that cuts to the chase, with some trails heading steeply uphill rather than zig-zagging at a gentler grade. Descents end in wooded hollows before the next rapid climb ending with a breathtaking view. Make no mistake: this will be a tough test of off-road endurance. Training will include a GTS once a week (Monday nights) and a one-day scouting trip to Bear Mountain with the team to run and familiarize yourself with part of the course.
Please Note: Because of the challenging nature of this course, this program is geared towards participants with running experience.

If you are interested in signing up, please join us at Kickoffon March 18 at 7:00pm at either of the following two North Face Stores:

SoHo - 139 Wooster Street btwn Prince & Houston

Upper West Side - 2101 Broadway @ 73rd Street

To RSVP or for more information, please send a message to the email address associated with this posting.

Science Fair Help Needed!

We are looking for volunteer judges for the 16th Annual Tri-County Science & Technology Fair.

Participation in the fair is not only a rewarding experience for our talented students but it also helps to gives you, the science community a "pulse" on the future scientists. We have a responsibility to give these students the very best judges to evaluate their exhibits, this is why we are not only asking you to commit to this important event but we are hopeful that you will ask your colleagues to get involved as well.

This fair is open to all students in Westchester, Putnam, and Rockland, from kindergarten to 12th grade in public and private schools. The emphasis is on original research-type science/technology projects and the advantages of getting teachers from all disciplines (not just science) involved. There is particular attention paid to the high school level as this fair is the necessary stepping stone for entrance into the Science Congress competition at the state level. School districts are already participating by holding local competitions at their individual schools. The first-place winners from each school will compete in the

Tri-county Science & Technology Fair Saturday, April 24, 2010
at White Plains High School.

Awards will be presented in several categories in each of three grade levels (elementary, middle, and high school). The categories, modeled after the New York State Science Congress competition, are: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics/Computers, Engineering/Technology, Environment, Earth/Space Science, Physics, and Psychology.

Since its inception in 1994, the Fair has grown in size from 60 to over 250 exhibits. Officials at the Fair expect a significant increase in the number of participants from local schools this year. Obviously, they hope to attract many more judges to handle the increase. Here’s what’s involved in being a judge. We are asking for 4 hours of your time on the day of the Fair (Saturday, April 24). Orientation (with a continental breakfast) begins at 9:00 a.m. Judging begins at 10:00 a.m. We will try to place you in the field closest to your expertise. My name is Martha Gold-Dvoryadkin. I am the Founder of a non-profit organization called Yoga Wonderland. The mission of Yoga Wonderland is to bring yoga to children of ALL Abilities. Below is some background on the program and the work I am currently involved in. My husband Alex and I have embarked on a new and beautiful project. Yoga Wonderland does not just place importance on teaching children/young adults physical postures (asanas), one branch of yoga, but also emphasizes Karma Yoga (selfless service) to others and the community at large. One of our exciting Karma Yoga projects is Blissful Bedrooms for Children/Young Adults with Disabilities. Our mission is to transform the bedrooms of various young individuals with disabilities, who have decreased mobility and face economic and family challenges, and make their room a peaceful and beautiful respite just for them. Please visit our website Blissfulbedrooms.org. Currently, our 501c3 status is pending but we do expect it to be approved in the future.

Tamisha's bedroom was our very first makeover which we did in 2/09. Tamisha is very special to my heart and was the inspiration for this program. She graduated from P.S. 811x in 2007 (a school I work at as a physical therapist/yoga instructor). Since her graduation, she has spent pretty much everyday in her apartment. Because Tamisha is profoundly disabled (no voluntary movement of her arms and legs and unable to sit upright, even with support), she has not had success in being accepted to a program. To make matters even worse, she currently does not have a wheelchair. So she is stuck in her home, day in and day out. This is very hard for her, especially after going to a school everyday until the age of 21 where she had many friends and people who loved her. She is very lonely, depressed and bored.

Students graduate District 75 Special Education schools in NYC when they are 21 years old. Many of these kids have been attending the same school since the age of 9 years old. The future for most of these students with special needs after they graduate is very bleak, especially if they have profound disabilities like Tamisha, a shortage of financial resources and their parent/caregiver is unable to be a strong advocate for them for whatever reasons (lack of concern or motivation; do not possess the education, maturity or communication skills to deal with the bureaucracy; English is not their first language; they are in survival mode themselves, etc.) With a paucity of programs for these young adults to attend, many individuals, like Tamisha, have this life to look forward to when they graduate. This is one of the many reasons that Alex and I cannot wait to find the right place so we can open a center - Yoga Wonderland - which will serve as a community for children/young adults of ALL abilities to learn and practice yoga (as well as have available to them complementary healing therapies, i.e., Pet Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance Therapy, Massage Therapy, Physical Therapy, Self-Empowerment/Self-Esteem classes etc.

My husband Alex and I thought the least we could do for Tamisha is make her bedroom a beautiful and happy place, one that reflected her personality. I gave Tamisha the nickname Butterfly a few years back, one she really took to. She reminds me of a beautiful butterfly. While she is profoundly disabled, it is quite obvious to me that her physical limitations are temporary (in terms of eternity) as she undergoes a metamorphosis right before our eyes. We fundraise and recruit volunteers to help with the painting, renovations and art work/wall murals. Our goal is to do this on a regular basis - at least once a month. The approximate cost for a bedroom makeover is between $1500.00-2000.00 (we want to keep the costs low and the effect contemporary and unique). Until our 501c3 is approved and we are in a place to approach corporate sponsors and apply for grants, our efforts for fundraising is very grass roots. We rely on donations from the community - either in the form of materials or funds. Each time we gather enough money, we go out and transform another room. Please visit our website (Blissfulbedrooms.org) where you can donate funds using Paypal.

After seeing how this has changed Tamisha's life, we became very motivated to bring this opportunity to as many young individuals with disabilities as possible. With a population of 600+ students in the school I work at in the South Bronx, in addition to the hundreds of other children in District 75 schools around the city, I don't think we will run out of candidates any time soon. Eventually we can see Blissful Bedrooms spreading across the country and even internationally.

Alex and I had such an immense feeling of peace and love in our hearts immediately after completing Tamisha's room. We had so much fun doing this together and we thought it would be great to share this "blissful" experience with others - to increase the sense of community and give others the chance to experience the intense high you get when you give selflessly to others in need! You can think of it as something like Extreme Makeover, yet on a smaller scale and budget, but at the same time accessible to a larger amount of individuals in need.

Please let us now if you would like to help in any way or if you have any ideas about donations, supplies, etc. and/or how we can make this program a huge success.

***************************************************************************************************************************************************** THIS IS OUR WISH LIST IN TERMS OF VOLUNTEERS/SUPPLIES NEEDED TO MAKE BLISSFUL BEDROOMS A SUCCESS:
- Donors of funds (large or small donations) (Blissful Bedroom website has a PayPal donation button), materials and supplies for room makeovers, i.e., lumber, laminate flooring, paint & paint supplies, tools, etc.
- Artists committed to creating a mural(s) or art work for a bedroom(s) which captures the heart and imagination of the recipient, and in many cases will serve as their most loyal companion for years to come.
- Caterers to supply food, beverages, and snacks for our hungry team of committed volunteers who work from sun-up Saturday morning until late into the night Sunday before the room is finally revealed to the recipient.
- Donation of storage space so we can store materials and supplies for future makeovers.
- Grant Researchers/Grant Writers - We need someone to find grants, foundations, programs that can help us with our mission and to help us apply
-Web designers well versed in Dreamweaver who can commit to helping us refine, enhance & routinely update & maintain our existing website (Blissfulbedrooms.org)
- Help with creating a business plan.
- Printer to print Blissful Bedrooms business cards for members of Core Team (design already created and ready to be printed) as well as color copies of our flyer to promote public awareness
- An individual(s) with excellent communication skills who can solicit sponsors/donations from large (or small) companies, i.e., Ikea, Target, Home Depot, P.C. Do not need extensive experience. But it would be great if we could have experienced craftsmen and specialists who would like to be connected with Blissful Bedrooms and help out when needed - i.e., electricians, carpenters, plumbers, etc.
- Caterers/restaurants/markets willing to donate food/beverages to feed our team of volunteers during the bedroom makeovers.
- Transportation to pick up furniture/supplies and carry team to and from makeovers, Donation of vehicle for long-term use which is spacious enough to transport supplies and/or wheelchairs in addition to passengers.
- Donation of bedding, rugs, curtains, pillows, bean bag chairs, paint, painting supplies, cleaning supplies, furniture, computers, flat screen TV's, sound system, music, art supplies (i.e., large canvases, acrylic paints), track lighting. We like to provide brand new items (or relatively new) for the makeovers. These kids deserve that, many of them spend their whole life getting hand-me-downs. We want them to feel/know this room is 100% for them and inspired by them.
-Musician/song writer to create an uplifting and happy song(s) for Yoga Wonderland with lyrics inspired by helping others, yoga tradition, peace in the world, etc. Perhaps for a CD in the future that can be used to raise money for our cause. -
- Videographers/photographers to document the makeovers - to be published on website and used for public awareness.

IF YOU HAVE A SKILL/TALENT/DONATIONS THAT I HAVE NOT LISTED HERE THAT WOULD ADD TO WHAT WE ARE DOING, PLEASE LET US KNOW!

****************************************************************************************************************************************************
After Tamisha's makeover in 2/09, which marked the birth of Blissful Bedrooms, we have gone on to complete four more bedroom makeovers.

BEFORE & AFTER PICTURES FROM ANGEL'S BEDROOM MAKEOVER - 7/09

WATCH ANGEL'S MAKEOVER VIDEO - http://blip.tv/file/2614372/

BEFORE & AFTER PICS FROM LASHAUNA'S BEDROOM MAKEOVER - 10/09

WATCH LASHAUNA'S MAKEOVER VIDEO - http://blip.tv/file/2967173

BEFORE & AFTER PICS FROM DAVID'S BEDROOM MAKEOVER - 12/09

WATCH DAVID'S MAKEOVER VIDEO - http://blip.tv/file/3155321

BEFORE & AFTER PICS FROM KATHYA'S BEDROOM MAKEOVER - 1/10

Please visit our website to learn more about past and future recipients, as well as to view many pictures of the entire process.

*******************************************************************************************************************************************************
Yoga Wonderland is a non-profit organization with the mission to bring yoga to children of ALL backgrounds and abilities so they can feel empowered to shine their lights brightly. It is our belief at Yoga Wonderland that every being has a life purpose, regardless of their physical/mental challenges and abilities. A lot of the children I work with feel like they are "mistakes" and that they have no place in this world, nothing to contribute. Many feel like they are a burden to their caregivers/society and that they deserve very little. I am always telling them that everyone has a purpose in life and that they are here for a very specific and divine mission. You cannot imagine how surprised they are by this notion; their eyes light up and they start asking questions and exploring this possibility. By exposing our children to the ancient and spiritual practice of yoga, we are promoting balance and equanimity in our young ones and encouraging them to follow their heart's desire or life path, without the need to compete or measure their self worth against others accomplishments. They will come to know that there is room for all of us to succeed and be prosperous in this world and that we are all connected. All of our actions in life have consequences and we cannot hurt another (this includes our fellow human beings, animals and our Earth) without hurting ourselves. This understanding leads to adults who are tolerant, compassionate, responsible, and contribute to strong communities and eventually world peace.

Hi. My name is Martha. I am a licensed physical therapist/massage therapist and certified yoga teacher. I have diverse experience in teaching yoga to children of ALL abilities and an immense passion for sharing yoga with children. The classes I teach are based on traditional yoga guidelines, including practical techniques to teach breathing, asanas (yoga postures), meditation and relaxation. The sessions are imaginative, fun, and include exciting warm-up exercises and yoga sequences choreographed to music.

Currently, I am working as a senior pediatric physical therapist in a New York City public school, with children who have multiple handicaps, in the South Bronx. Many of the children I work with have cerebral palsy, impairments secondary to stroke, Down's Syndrome, spina bifida, mental retardation, autism, and other neurological impairments. The children range in age from 9-21. We have approximately 600+ children in our school, with about 300 children who are wheelchair dependent. Our physical therapy department consists of approximately 25 occupational and physical therapists. In addition to providing physical therapy for the children, Back in 2002, I implemented a yoga program which I have termed "Yoga Wonderland.". The program I began is a great success and I lead several large group mat yoga classes each week in the big gym with as many as 50 children with physical, mental and emotional handicaps in attendance I also teach 10+ chair yoga classes each week in the classroom. I have trained several therapists at my school to teach their own yoga classes. Today, the majority of the therapists at the school are involved in some way with the yoga program - either leading their own classes or assisting in others - and the teachers, paraprofessionals and administration have been very supportive. The popularity of the program has grown immensely. The program started with five girls with mild to moderate cerebral palsy doing yoga and has grown to almost half of the students in the school experiencing yoga regularly. The children really adore the classes and can't get enough of yoga. I have found my life purpose and I can't get enough of sharing yoga with them.

The word yoga means union of the body, mind and soul. Unfortunately, in Western society, yoga has become associated with picture perfect bodies in various physical poses that are beyond the capabilities or even safety limits of the average person, let alone individuals facing physical challenges. That is not what yoga is or was intended to be when it originated more than 5,000 years ago. Yes, physical exercise is one component and we do have a lot of fun with it in our class. But there is also a spiritual aspect that we incorporate as well. For example, at the end of every class we sing the "Namaste Song." One translation of the word Namaste is “the light inside of me honors and bows to the light inside of you.” By singing this song at the close of every class and then sharing the hand gesture of Namaste (two palms together in front of your heart) with others in our circle, we are reinforcing our connectedness and respect for one another. Imagine our world today if we all had this sense of honor and reverence for one another, knowing with our whole beings that we are not separate, regardless of our perceived differences. I can't think of a better lesson to teach our kids, can you?

In addition, to teaching yoga classes to children (with and without physical disabilities), I provide trainings to therapists, teachers, health professionals, parents, and other like-minded individuals on how to teach children of all abilities yoga. In fact, I played a major part in creating a workshop entitled Yoga for All: Finding the Ability in Disability. This workshop was presented to approximately 200 physical and occupational therapists within the Department of Education. As a result of this workshop, several yoga programs started in District 75 schools (special education schools) throughout the five boroughs and continue today. Because of the overwhelming positive feedback, I decided to make it available to interested individuals outside of the schools. This evolving workshop is entitled: Yoga Wonderland: Creating a Fun and Therapeutic Yoga Class for Children of ALL Abilities and is taught each Fall semester to the Doctor of Physical Therapy students at Columbia University as an elective in the pediatric curriculum. I look forward to teaching this in other physical therapy programs. In addition, I do on-site workshops at pediatric facilities, schools, day care centers, recreation centers, etc. I am so excited about this because as a yoga practitioner, as well as NYU graduate with a Doctorate in physical therapy and a Kripalu Certified Yoga Teacher who has taken several certification courses to teach children yoga, I know the benefits of yoga. I have witnessed the amazing physical, mental and emotional changes in myself, as well as in the children I have worked with over the past years, since I have implemented the yoga program. What’s more is that they can't wait to do yoga and many say it is the highlight of their week. One beautiful 16-year-old boy I work with named David is challenged with spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy. He is very bright and sensitive and has a smile that can brighten anyone's day, but often he falls into a depression because of his limitations. He constantly tells his mother, "its not fair that I can't walk and my brother can." Well his mother told me that David talks about yoga class all of the time and how much he loves it. She said that David said to her, "yoga class is the only thing that takes my mind off of not walking." Talk about bringing tears to my eyes and touching my heart. No amount of money could inspire me to work harder at what I am doing than that one statement.

I am routinely taking continuing education courses to enhance my skills and keep my teaching fresh and imaginative, as well as looking for music and activities to inspire and motivate the children in yoga class. I put a lot of thought into coming up with creative and fun activities, usually choreographed to music, because I have found this is what children of ALL abilities really respond to and this is how they are fully engaged. I believe that if a child is having fun, laughing and smiling, they are truly in the present moment, and this is the true essence of yoga. This is the best environment for learning. In addition, many of the disabled children I work with do not have a social life like other children do. They do not have the opportunity to engage in group sports with other kids. So this class is their rare chance to be with their peers and simply have fun. They really feel that they are part of a community and they so proudly tell their family and others "I do yoga." In addition, this class allows children with disabilities to interact with "able-bodied" children. Both learn enormous lessons, such as compassion, patience, acceptance and team work. It quickly becomes clear to them that their differences aren't as great as their similarities.

My intention for the next phase of Yoga Wonderland is to open up a center. This program will be for kids of ALL abilities with special emphasis on young individuals with special needs. If anyone knows about an affordable space to start out, as well as funding opportunities for a project like this or any other advice/resources, I would be very grateful. I know this would be a very valuable resource for our community. Currently, a studio does not exist that serves and integrates young individuals of ALL abilities. As demonstrated in Tamisha's case above, there is a strong need for programs and services for children with disabilities after they graduate.

Thank you very much for your interest in my post and for your patience and time in reading it. Please contact me directly at martha@blissfulbedrooms.org for more information or if you would like to help an a part of this wonderful journey.

Namaste

YOGA WONDERLAND: WHERE YOUNG INDIVIDUALS OF ALL ABILITIES UNITE TO SHINE THEIR LIGHT

HELP US FIND A HOME WHERE WE CAN CREATE A YOGA WONDERLAND COMMUNITY
