OUR PROGRAMS: Woman-to-Woman A premier intervention program utilizing a transformational curriculum and mentorship to develop leadership and resiliency among pregnant and parenting teen moms. It offers preventive training for young women at high risk of becoming teenage mothers. The program is designed to keep teen girls from dropping out of school, becoming involved in delinquent behaviors and permanently dependent on the social services system. Warriors Way Empowers boys who are most at risk of dropping out of school, and becoming involved in the juvenile justice system. The program develops boys ages 12-14, living in single parent households with absent dads. With the coaching of adult male mentors youth learn to stay in school, handle aggression through verbal communication and contribute service to communities. <![CDATA[Volunteers will work with staff from Battery Dance Company to present the 29th Annual Downtown Dance Festival, a free roving event held each summer in Lower Manhattan parks, plazas and piers. The festival invites audiences to enjoy seven days of ethnic, classical, and contemporary dance performances from around the world. This year, the festival will take place at The Lawn at Battery Park and One New York Plaza, a venue new to the festival. Dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers are needed in the weeks prior to the Festival for publicity and marketing campaigns (posting flyers and giving away postcards at restaurants, coffee shops, businesses and organizations around NYC). Then, during the days of the Festival, volunteer ushers will greet audience members, hand out playbills and help with other various tasks, such as helping to set up and take down the stage, setting up chairs at One New York Plaza, or working with groups of children who are visiting for our special educational outreach segment of the festival. A religion that circumcises little girls so they will not enjoy sex when growing up and therefore will not cheat on their future husbands. If they wanted to bring a message of peace as they claim to do with that mosque than why not take this $100 million and build a hospital or better off – create a trust funds for the orphans of 911 for the purpose of education and recreation? Kolkata alias Calcutta is full of life and bustle, verging on the chaotic as traditional occupations rub shoulders with ultra modern industries. Kolkata is India's second largest city, the capital of West Bengal and formerly, the capital of British India (1772-1912); it is a city with a great deal of charm - its imperial monuments, strong cultural and religious flavour. However it is also suffering from a terrible lack of hygiene, illiteracy and unemployment are rampant, and the first to suffer from these poor living conditions are the children. In an effort to bring a bit of joy back to the faces of the street and orphan children of Calcutta, international group of volunteers together with local NGOs will conduct a Happy Hearts Workcamp: it will consist of a series of “Happy Hearts” Sessions in which the group of volunteers will organise activities to entertain and open the minds of the children to the outside world. The volunteers will also undertake some renovation work in the schools like painting, renovation of toilets, kitchens and playgrounds, etc. This special project will feature one week of creative education and one week of continuous special activities. The home also provides support to families who are temporarily unable to take care of their kids. The parents are being encouraged and taught effective parenting skills while the children stay in the social home. The establishment also runs a Crisis center, which serves as an emergency shelter for abused and traumatized children or those from problem families. Another program of the Social home is for social and professional integration. It prepares for independent living 17 - 20 years old youths who grew up in this or other similar facilities throughout the country. During the day they attend vocational training courses, but the volunteers may meet and spend time with some of them in the evenings and weekends. Motivated volunteers from different countries will organize variety of activities for the children and the youngsters in order to optimize their free time during the summer holidays. The population - approx. 100.000 inhabitants - faces generally low education level and low income with a high percentage of unemployment which contributes to increased level of poverty and exclusion. In recent years, Ciutat Vella has also increased heavily its number of foreigners, single parents and elders. In this socio economic context, more than half of the residences need some kind of rehabilitation that locals in poor conditions cannot afford. The project has two main goals: improve the living conditions of the flats, through cooperation between locals and international participants, and working in the social area with volunteers, through exchanges in the local space. The work will consist in restoring houses in the district of Ciutat Vella in Barcelona.
