We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated people to become our 2009 Team Leaders. <br> <br> We are an Alaskan non-profit youth corp that have been working with disadvantaged youth and doing conservation projects for over 20 years. <br> <br> Where: Various locations throughout Alaska Glacier Bay, Denali, Kenai, Juneau, and many more. <br> <br> When: March 1 to November 25th, 2009 (9 months) <br> <br> Alaska Service Corps (ASC) Team Leaders have experience in both the essential technical and interpersonal skills needed to assure projects are completed in a safe, efficient, team-based manner with high quality results. Team Leaders will be selected to co-lead and live with an ASC crew of 5-7 Crew Members. These AmeriCorps members are at least 18 years of age and come from diverse backgrounds. They travel from locations all around the United States to serve. Member Development activities occur throughout the term of service - organizing volunteer projects, gaining skills in cross-culture communication, group living, and education/vocational planning. Crew Members work on service projects throughout Alaska while living and working with their crew in a field camp setting. Following a week-long orientation, members receive their crew assignments and project locations before being deployed. Following a two month orientation at our facilities in Juneau which includes WFR and hard and soft skills training, Team Leaders will work on projects as a crew before meeting incoming crew members and receiving crew and location assignments. <br> <br> All projects are located outdoors and are completed in all weather conditions. Trail work, road safety, and invasive plant species removal are common. Trail projects may include water diversion, bridge building, and trail-tread improvements, while road safety projects include tree-clearing, brush removal and clearing behind highway guardrails. <![CDATA[SUMMARY OF POSITION: <br> The Florida program is poised to grow exponentially. In 2007, Florida raised approximately $6 million from private individuals, foundations and corporations. A recent in-depth screening of its donor base identified over 16,000 prospects with an attachment to the Conservancy and significant capacity to give major gifts (i.e., gift of $100,000 or more). The Associate Director of Philanthropy’s (ADOP) challenge will be to capitalize on this potential and to increase the amount raised in major gifts from these prospects and the 38,250 current state members. The ADOP’s primary objective is to make 250 out-the-door fundraising visits per year resulting in approximately 2 million dollars raised annually from100-125 donor prospects in an existing Southeastern Florida portfolio. This position supervises no staff. <br> <br> ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: <br> The Associate Director of Philanthropy for Major Gifts works under the supervision and in close partnership with the Director of Philanthropy for Florida (DOP) and contributes in the creation and implementation of effective strategies for identified major and principal gifts donors and prospects (i.e., those with the capacity to make a $100,000 or greater gift over three years or a six-figure deferred gift) in support of state, regional and global conservation priorities. <br> The Associate Director is responsible for the cultivation and solicitation of a portfolio of approximately 100 major and principal gift donors and prospects and works closely with the development team to determine effective strategies for identified donors and prospects. S/he has the ability and experience to discuss assets proficiently and to listen for opportunities for gifts of assets or other non-cash gifts, such as planned gifts and trade lands. S/he provides opportunities for donors to receive recognition and increase future giving opportunities. S/he involves and engages appropriate partners in the field and staff at the Worldwide Office, keeping them apprised of interactions, issues or concerns, and collaborates to ensure maximum fundraising effectiveness. The Associate Director understands and complies with all TNC gift-related policies and procedures and ensures ethical compliance, as defined by the Association for Fundraising Professionals. <br> <br> BASIC QUALIFICATIONS <br> • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related field and a minimum of 7 years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Major gifts fundraising experience or experience at a senior level in sales, marketing, public relations, advertising or related experience. <br> • Experience in managing and tracking multiple prospects, donors, customers, projects, or equivalent experience. <br> • Experience in asking for and closing major gifts of $25,000 or more, experience closing sales or obtaining funding at the $100,000-plus level, or equivalent experience. Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with constituents such as major donors, corporations, customers, colleagues and other stakeholders key to professional success. <br> <br> <br> KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: <br> • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related field and 7-9 years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
