I will soon be launching a consulting service to help applicants to MBA programs with their admissions essays and resumes.

Typically this means 4-6 essays of approximately 500 words each and a 1 page resume that is clean and professional.

My applicants will submit rough drafts of their essays and resume. Your job will be to review and edit these essays for content, style, and grammar. You will NOT be asked to write anybody’s essays for them. You will be asked to give substantial feedback, guidance, and aid in the creative process. For each essay you will need to make the necessary corrections (using track changes) plus write approximately 1 paragraph of suggestions. You will also edit and rewrite the applicant’s resume.

Your efforts will then be returned to the applicant for his rewrite. Then they’ll come back to you.

Including the initial round, there should be 3-5 rounds of this process (each successive round being more and more polished and requiring less and less work from you). Of course this also depends on how good you are. You are expected to turn around your rewrites within 2 days. Knowledge of the MBA admissions process is a plus. Strong creative writing skills are ESSENTIAL. Ability to handle tight deadlines is important. We only help applicants who are applying to the top 5 business schools in the country and they expect you to be good.

Depending on demand you may be asked to work with multiple applicants at the same time. There is opportunity fo r continuing work until the end of MBA admissions season (early March ’09). But you will also be rated by applicants and only receive additional work if you maintain good ratings. You will be paid $200 per applicant (half up front, the remainder conditional upon satisfactory review from applicant).

| National Association Seeks Editor

We are a national organization of innovation capital leaders: private, public and non-profit organizations committed to building their local economies by investing in local entrepreneurs.

The Weekly Newsletter is a key service of THE ASSOCIATION. It is published weekly and sent to 7,000 subscribers who are interested in venture capital, local economic development and technology transfer.

The well-respected editor of The Weekly Newsletter has decided to retire after seven years, and THE ASSOCIATION is looking for a replacement. The person selected for this position will have background as a journalist or financial writer. He or she can continue to hold another job just as long as there will be a long-term commitment to this editorial position, which will likely require 20 hours per week.

The current editor has listed below the process he follows each week. He is willing to stay and train the person selected as the new editor. The majority of the time is spent reading and evaluating different industry publications, which are listed later in this memo.

1) Process used for gathering materials and assembling The Weekly Newsletter
a) List of daily newspapers
b) List of weekly business newspapers
c) Google ‘alerts’ for venture capital, angel investors, technology transfer
d) E-Newsletters from others (WTN, PEWeek, SSTI, HBR, FRB, ACA etc.)

2) Save each story separately in the Stories & Studies database with appropriate tags, authors and publishers. To the degree possible convert each to same size (Times New Roman 12) to make research easier. Include the web link.

3) Convert fresh stories, at convenient times, to items for the ‘The Weekly Newsletter Ideas’ database

4) On Tuesday, print out all items in the The Weekly Newsletter Ideas database and arrange them into some logical order; e.g. stories in Biotech, State Economic Development, Incentives, or, according to state. The order may change to fit material available.

5) Prepare stories in advance into the The Weekly Newsletter template. They do not have to be in numerical/dated sequence, which allows movement of previously placed stories, and late-breaking news.

6) Once an initial draft is finished, share draft copies with selected staff.

7) On Thursday morning, after adding last morning stories, but prior to 9am Pacific, e-mail The Weekly Newsletter.

List of Source Material for The Weeky Newsletter Stories

Newspapers: The papers below are the newspapers likely to produce a story of interest to The Weeky Newsletter Readers. In most cases it’s because the community has significant involvement in capital for entrepreneurs. In others it’s because specific reporters concentrate on the subject mater of interest, which may change if the reporter moves on.

This position is suitable for college students, retail workers, freelance writers, and similar people who have flexible schedules that will allow them to write for us during morning hours.

The primary responsibility of the chosen candidate will likely be to scan the morning news and press release sources, and to write stories for the our website based on those news events when appropriate. Such stories will range from U.S. carrier news and litigations to new mobile phone and Bluetooth device announcements. Additionally, we want this person to help us with mobile phone and Bluetooth headset reviews as well as potentially attend press events and industry shows like CES and CTIA.

The core job requirements are as follows:

* The applicant must be a legal U.S. resident and live within the Philadelphia-New York corridor area. We need local access to the person that fills this position.
* The applicant must be at least 18 years of age. No exceptions.
* The applicant must be a native English speaker with the ability to write both with style and technical merit. Applications that show a lack of mastery of the English language will be discarded.
* The applicant needs to have a solid hands-on background with various devices and mobile phone platforms. Overall technical knowledge of other sorts, such as Internet technologies and electronics, is also desirable.
* The applicant should have reasonable GSM and CDMA coverage in his or her home/work area for device testing.

Other desirable, though not required, abilities or traits:

* A formal, job-based writing background.
* Basic skills with photo editing software such as Photoshop.
* Basic HTML skills.
* The ability to edit works written by others.
* The ability to read, write, or speak Korean, Chinese, or Japanese.

Any person that wishes to be considered for this position will need to be reliable, committed, and possess the ability to work independently. Our writers also need to be able to follow our writing style guidelines, check their sources, and proof their own work to a reasonable extent. While the work schedule is mostly flexible, the position requires that at least some time at the start of most weekdays be spent dealing with the daily news. Some flexibility will also be required of the employee from time to time when we are attending trade shows, in that we will often need support "from the home office" for work we are doing elsewhere. As touched upon earlier, the ability of the candidate to be able to attend evening press events in New York City and multi-day trade shows elsewhere, while not a requirement, makes their application all the more attractive to us.

This position pays a fee based on each post written. Most posts will be 200 words or less. Reviews will be longer (typically 1000 to 2000 words) and will pay on a different scale.
