You cannot compare asking for a free band of amateur musicians to asking for a free landscaper, unless you know many landscaping hobbyists. It's more like asking for a free photographer. Most importantly, this is just a common theme that runs on this board. Some people are going to give things away for free because they can and they want to. You can't prevent them from doing it or prevent people from asking for it. If you want to 'protect your wages' by preventing people from giving something away for free, then you have to make the 'for sale' version of the product worth the money and better than any hobbyist could ever make. Honda sells cars because their cars are worth paying for and because they're better than any go-kart your friends can put together in a garage. Make music that's better than the free version. Sell recording packages that are better than something someone can do for free in their spare time. Then you can talk about what you deserve. ]]>

<![CDATA[ It never ceases to amaze me how ignorant, self rightous and arrogant some people (musicians) can be..... how can you compare a bands services to a Dr., Mechanic etc...? 1st off, there is a degree of proffesionalism with the above mentioned trades, along with schooling, education and experience..... you don't have to have any of the above to be in a band. and most don't. any schmuck can pick up a guitar, yell at a microphone or bang on some drums and call themselves a musician... and if you are the type of band that does have any of the previosly refferenced attributes, then why in the hell are you even paying attention to the post. act proffessional, chase the paying gigs and stop worring about what the "little' guy is doing. then again, maybe i'm wrong, maybe talking shit and bitching all the time, is what makes you a "Proffesional"..... i mean, get over yerself, it sounds like a decent opportunity for an in-experienced band to get some experience, have a lil fun & maybe make some friends/fans....what is wrong with that. My point is, not all bands/musicians that that read CL & post here are "proffesional" musicians, some actually play music becouse they love music. there are varring degrees of talent, exp., and goals with wich they wanna exploit there craft.... i'm getting kind of sick of the... You will sing lead on roughly half of the tunes and be the only guitarist so you must be a lead caliber player.
