Approximately 800 Exchange Clubs representing more than 25,000 members will participate in the Believe in the Blue project. All clubs will hand out materials from 1pm until 3pm EDT at local supermarkets, department stores, and shopping centers. More than 500,000 Positive Parenting and Shopping Tips cards will be distributed.

Do you want to be a ghost in Iceland?

September 17 - October 8, 2008

If you ever wanted to be a ghost in Iceland, than this is the opportunity that you have been waiting for.
Stokkseyri is a coastal South Icelandic town in the fertile farming district region of Flói. It is known for its black sandy beach which becomes quite crowded with tourists during summer. The beach is wide and full of driftwood. A long sea wall was erected in the late 18th century to prevent encroachment by the sea and as a shield against Ölfusá river's flooding and high waves. The entire coastal area is open lowland and very windswept with shallow shores.

The village has a rich art and cultural life. Paintings and glass galleries, Ghost Centre and the Center of Ethnomusicology, which are all situated in the Hólmaröst cultural centre. An interesting museum, "Þuríðar cottage" is in Stokkseyri, built in memory of Lady Þuríður Einarsdóttir, captain of a fishing boat in the late 18th and early 19th century, a time when it was considered a unique profession for a woman. The Ghost Centre in Stokkseyri is a Ghost Museum with all of the most famous ghosts in Iceland located in a building by the harbour. Guests walk through the ghost-maze, where they will experience the stories in the environment where they happened. The stories can be listened to in English, German and Icelandic.

Here is a nice description of Stokkseyri in the Icelandic newspaper Grapewine:
“It is a community where one native has a polar bear in the living room, some have horses in their backyard, and almost everyone knows the Foo Fighters on a first name basis, Stokkseyri is located on the south coast only 45 minutes from Reykjavík. This small village of about 500 people is renowned for its natural beauty, but more impressive are the creative inhabitants living there, inspired by the shore and wildlife in the surrounding area.
Stokkseyri wasn’t much of a draw for tourists a decade ago. Natives almost entirely depended on the fishing industry, and the 26-metre-high lighthouse Knarrarósviti was really the only attraction for travellers. Times have changed, the fish processing moved to nearby town Þorlákshöfn and with companies like Kajakferðir, Töfragarðurinn, restaurant Við fjöruborðið and all kinds of museums the village is becoming a popular spot for both locals and foreigners arriving by thousands every year to take part in various activities.”

The volunteers will be acting as ghosts in the Ghost museum and also, they will be working closely with the staff of the museum helping them with all other necessary tasks. They will also give a helping hand in a family park, taking care of the animals and the visiting guests. This project is perfect for people with artistic skills, especially theatre. Five volunteers will be participating in each group.

Pune may not be a cosmopolitan city as Mumbai is, but it is a pleasant getaway for all those who want to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Pune has a calm atmosphere, non-confronting people, and is certainly much more relaxed and peaceful than Mumbai. If you consider Maharashtra as a Marathi speaking state of India, then Pune can undoubtedly be called its capital, with its glorious past and high concentration of Marathi speaking people. Pune is also an internationally renowned educational center, being home to many institutions of repute like Film and Television Institute of India, Armed Forces Medical College, National Defence Academy and Symbiosis Educational Society.

Several schools in Pune need to be upgraded in terms of renovation. Blackboards, the main medium for communication between a teacher and the pupils need to be put in place in several schools. Imparting education to eager children is an extremely rewarding and fruitful challenge. Schools, which for the past fifty years haven't seen a fresh coat of paint, are being helped along the way. Volunteers will actively involve in sharing knowledge with hungry children. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy goes the saying. Several children haven't seen playground furniture such as slides, jungle gyms, etc. Volunteers will help install these at various playgrounds so that children get to release their bubbling cauldron of pent-up energies.

I am a theatre teaching-artist and for my graduate school thesis project I am creating a performance piece based about youth attitudes towards politics, which will be performed by a small ensemble of high school juniors and seniors in late October. I am looking for volunteers between the ages of 18-24 to answer a few questions about their backgrounds and political views (or lack thereof). From the answers received, I will compile monologues and scenes. My goal is for the piece to be a snapshot of things as they are this year, in this election.

That's where YOU come in!

As part of my questions, I will ask you to define as specifically as you can your party affiliation or whether you consider yourself liberal or conservative, Democrat or Republican or Independent or none of the above, etc. I hope to get a broad mix of views in the responses, from those registered to vote and following the campaigns as well as those not registered who really couldn't care less. But what I am most interested in is not what your specific view is, but WHY you have or do not have a view in the first place. Who are you and how did you come to where you are in your outlook on and participation in our political process? This is what my project focuses on.

Whether you canvass for a candidate or don't know who the governor of your state is or who represents you in Congress, I want to know who you are. It doesn't matter whether you're registered and ready to vote or don't plan to vote and never will. You're experiences and views are a vital piece of our country today!

In the final piece, all names will be changed. If I include your responses, I will not edit your opinions but I do reserve the right to edit for length and thematic cohesion.

In this project, a group of international volunteers is invited to participate in activities with the community called Mata de Platano, to help in a program that seeks to promote the creation of activities for sustainable development.

The volunteers will help in the construction and maintenance of a community center, called "La Casa del Volcan". The construction has already been started by the local people, but volunteers will help at the creation of a place that can receive tourists as a camping zone, since Mata de Platano is surrounded by very beautiful natural environment. Moreover, the group will gather some elements for the opening of a community museum.

This organization is going to provide a network of support and support related services to people throughout Arizona. All those that have suffered and had their lives turned upside down, destroyed or nearly destroyed will now have somewhere to turn for help. There was no where for me to go some 7 years ago when an incompetent doctor nearly killed me.
Please note this is only in the ground breaking stages. Over the next several weeks I will be meeting with many other team players that are assisting me in organizing and setting up the corporation. I will notify you as soon as I have all the legal and IRS regulations met, at which time the Arizona Victims of Medical Malpractice will begin accepting Donations & Sponsors so this valuable service can begin its work. Please be a Sponsor and help Donate to this Great Organization
In the meantime, you may contact me at the website which is www.arizonavictimsofmedicalmalpractice.org Or e-mail at vomm@gmail.com
The Kind of help we need is Cash Donations, I want to do some Events and to be honest I need some Volunteer advice as to where to begin. I want to do events of any kind where a potion of the proceeds go to the orgainzation. if anyone out there would like to help me I would so much appreciate this. Thank you
