<![CDATA[California Progress Report, a leading progressive California policy and political web site seeks an editor to maintain site during a transition period. This is an independent contractor position. Position is funded for four months, while funding is sought to continue publishing the web site. This may turn into a regular position if on-going funding is obtained. <br> <br> <br> Editor’s duties include: <br> <br> 1) Outreach to environmental, labor, consumer, health care, education, LGBT, civil liberties, immigrant rights, senior and other organizations that work to enact state laws and regulations, seeking their authorship of original materials presenting their organization’s views, to post on the site. This site is unique in that it is a principally a forum for established progressive organizations conducting policy work. Review of wide array of submitted guest article submissions with a critical eye towards avoiding rants. Editor will have mature judgment in occasional editing of materials submitted and in declining submissions that do not meet these guidelines. <br> <br> 2) Following Sacramento legislation on a daily basis during the legislative session, by attending or remotely monitoring legislative hearings, and writing timely articles on legislative developments. Editor must be present in the state capitol regularly when legislature is in session. Editor will find interns to assist with these duties, and to help assure that the site has fresh materials seven days a week. <br> <br> 3) Reading on a daily basis materials relating to California political and policy matters, including Sacramento “insider” reports, press releases, daily newspapers and blog sites; writing on breaking news; and posting links to newspaper and blog site articles. <br> <br> 4) Assisting publisher in fundraising from organizational donors, and by writing grant proposals. <br> <br> Qualifications: Position is Sacramento based.
