We play on the Silicon Valley Softball League (www.svsl.org); the largest co-ed, LGBT friendly softball league in the South Bay. This team is in the “D” division which is lowest competitive division; the focus of this division is to have fun and avoid injury. No experience needed, we will teach you how to play. Minimal equipment required (softball glove, cleats).

WHEN: The first season game is scheduled for 4/28 and runs 10 weeks. We play at Twin Creeks Sports Complex located at 101 and Lawrence Expressway in Sunnyvale on Thursday evenings; game start times are 6:40PM, 7:50PM, 9:00PM, and occasionally 10:10PM. Game durations are 1hr, 10min. Practices are held Saturday or Sunday mornings in downtown San Jose.
HOW TO SIGN UP: This Sunday, 3/21 from 9AM - 12PM we will be having a league-wide introductory softball clinic run by experienced league leadership at the San Jose City Park located at 7th and Mission street in downtown San Jose.

I'm among the many professionals who have been unemployed for a long period - and I know it can be disheartening going through the job boards every day and not finding anything. ' know it can also play havoc on staying motivated - I find that getting out for good a walk along the many trails available does wonders for the frame of mind.

So if you feel like taking the first step (ha-ha) I'd like to start next Wed, March 24 with the back trail along Turtle Creek into Newhall Park (trail head located on Treat, across the street from Coco's). It's not too strenuous (one small hill at the start) and should take about an hour. Meet there at 10 a-m. - it's a great way to break up the morning and get some air! All comers welcome, but I'm starting this up primarily for under and unemployed professionals to get together, motivate each other and realize you're not alone in this tough economy!

Future walks might include:

Mt. Diablo Donner Creek/Canyon trail near Clayton
Black Diamond Trail - also near Clayton
Lime Ridge Trail

So - respond to this post if you like, or I'll see next Wed at 10!

Reply if you want to have a great time! | I’ve got my tickets for Burning Man this year and now am diving head first into building a theme camp. This will be my 6th trip. We have a couple of returnees to the playa from previous years, but are always open to having fun, fresh, dependable faces in the mix. Ideal campmates would be fun, self sufficient, laid back/drama free, & non smoking (at least in camp) My aim would be to have synergy between all the campmates. We don’t need hang out every minute of the day, but when we see each other, we enjoy each other’s company and strive to help each other. We can recount our experiences over a communal meal, and if one of us has had too much libations, we know that our campmates have our back.
The theme camp would be a Lego centric theme camp. I have gallons and gallons of Lego for people to come in and build art cars or whatnot, while having drinks, shooting the breeze, etc. but open to other ideas as well. I have access to two geo domes, which would be heart of the camp infrastructure. There would be no required hours to work, no deposits needed, and it won't be a full time, loud music, boisterous bar..... basically, if you're hanging out at the camp, it would be 'open', and if no one is at the camp, then it is ' closed'. We are all probably going to be busy running around the Playa getting into trouble anyway. I’d like to have a few ‘official’ events that are listed in the guide, but otherwise it would be ‘self serve’
If this interests you, drop me a line. The big resource we can reallllly use are people with vehicles large enough to haul bigger items like bikes and geodesic domes, and are willing to drive them to Northern Nevada. We have some tentative campers that will need rides, and could probably subsidize the journey. I’d like to brainstorm soon, and get a rough count of how many campers are in, so we can develop a proposal to the central Burningman placement committee. I’m in Fairfield, in Solano county, East bay.

Friends and Neighbors!
I live near Ohlone Park and am interested in getting out in the morning and getting some healthy exercise - and improving my soccer skills.

Do you like the idea of meeting for an informal and outdoor boot camp 2-3 mornings a week? I'm thinking Monday, Wednesday, and maybe Friday, 7:00am to 8:00am but will go with what works for the majority. I'd also be up for meeting at other locations as well.

I set up something like this when I lived in the city and it worked out well with out anyone having to be the full time bootcamp drill Sargent. Showing up is half the battle and with a little group encouragement it is pretty easy for everyone to get a good work out, regardless of their fitness level.

There are a bunch of good soccer drills we can do with just a few people. So not only will you run faster on the field, but your ball handling and passing will improve.

So if this sounds good, let me know what timing works best for you and hopefully we'll get a handful of people to help make it happen.

Thanks

The USTA leagues are a great way to get some real competition in, while playing in a collegial environment.
I'm among the many professionals who have been unemployed for a long period - and I know it can be disheartening going through the job boards every day and not finding anything. I' know it can also play havoc on staying motivated - I find that getting out for good walk among the many trails available does wonders for the frame of mind.

So - respond to this ppost if you like, or I'll see next Wed!

Bob has had 50+ years experience sailing and I have had over 5, and when you come up to speed, you can take the sailboat out for the weekends, for I usually only use the boat 1 weekend a month. | Hey,
I'm looking to find a committed workout partner. I work just 5 minutes away from 24 Fitness on Norris Canyon in San Ramon and I can consistently meet there at 9:00 pm everyday of the week. I would be willing to commute to other 24 hour fitness locations such as Walnut Creek, Pleasanton, and Concord. We can meet later that night too if that is more convenient for you. I'm definitely known for my punctuality and I'm not someone who would flake. I'm 5'9'' and 155 lbs so yes I am an ectomorph who is trying to put on some muscle mass. I'm all about getting the best possible workout while still using excellent form. I'm currently following a weight training program that requires me to workout for about an hour six days out of the week. One day is devoted to legs, one to chest/back, and one to arms and then you simply repeat the same workouts over the next three days. I'm looking for someone who is willing to spot me for my sets and who I can also spot for his or her sets. I go to failure with each exercise and having someone there to spot me would allow me to push up progressively more weight with each week and I would do the same for my partner. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for taking the time to hear me out.

I have a BA in psychology and a Master's in Social Work (MSW) with many years working in the social service industry. The types of activities may vary depending upon the needs and/or wishes of the client, some may include: going out into the community, walking in the park, gardening, meal preparation, movies, attending medical appointments, museums, dinning out, exercise etc. I am open to working with a family who may have an elderly parent to design an appropriate weekly schedule that best suits their needs. I came up with this idea based on my experience working in the social work sector and providing services to children, youth, seniors and families from diverse backgrounds, along with working very closely with an elderly woman who had breast cancer in her home. I am available throughout the weekday and some weekends if needed, also willing to do a few overnight stays. If you are interested in my services and feel that you and/or parent could benefit from having a companion I would love to hear from you. Resume & References upon request.

Ever wanted to see how you'd do at playground games as an adult? Ever wanted to hangout in a parking lot, listen to music and talk to people? THEN THIS IS THE EVENT FOR YOU!

4 SQUARE (the game)!
THURSDAY!
9PM!
THE ROCKRIDGE BART STATION PARKING LOT (the south end)!

In a sinking economy, become a part of a growing community that plays free games around the East Bay. Inspired by the Society for Creative Anachronism, Bike Polo and Oakland Capture the Flag, 4 Square of the East Bay is a loosely organized group of individuals who like to gather and have some old fashion, good, clean, FREE fun! All ages are welcome, all styles are encouraged...

4 Square is a game played with a bouncy rubber playground ball where one big square (20 ft x 20 ft) is divided equally in to four sections (10 ft x 10 ft) and labeled A, B, C & D. The ball is served from the player in A square and when it bounces in a players square, they must physically return it to another player's square. Balls hit out of the big square or back into one's own square result in that player being out. Players enter in through D square and must work their way up to A square. Once in A square, the player serves the ball to any other square and can make up rules that suit them (ie. everyone must play with one hand OR you must spin after each hit OR as you hit the ball you must yell out a country of the world etc). Rules are meant to be fun and challenging, not to give anyone a particular advantage. That being said, there are some standing basic rules to our game...

Basic rules for 4 Square of the East Bay:
1) You can't get out on a serve (AKA no aces). It sucks to get out when you first get in.
2) If you hit the ball out, but two people play on the ball then the game keeps going like you were never out. If you hit the ball out and two people DON'T play on it (ie the person to hit it after you hits it out OR the second person stops play) YOU are the one who is out.
3) If a ball hits an outer line, the hit is IN and should be played on.
4) A Square has the final say in all rulings. They can call do-overs or duels and are generally right in all things. Unless the crowd boos them thus pressuring to change their ruling ;-)
5) If a ball bounces into someone's square, let them return it. Don't get in the way of a ball someone can hit or they'll call 'interference' on you either resulting in a do-over or a duel.
6) If you intercept the ball in the air before it hits the pavement in your square, that counts as hitting the ground. Put that ball directly in to someone else's square because if you hit it into your square, YOU'RE OUT.
7) If there is a conflict or dispute, this is usually solved by a DUEL which is a 2 Square battle between the arguing parties, set off by three good and fair hits before trying to get each other out.
8) DON'T BE A JERK! Instead, seek to be excellent. A certain level of competition is to be expected but you're not gonna make any friends by proving to everyone that you can slam a ball over their heads. Remember, it's a kid's game, so don't get bent out of shape. It's not a good look.
9) HAVE FUN! Be flexible and allow people to be themselves. Not everyone's style of play is going to look the same, so come through with an open mind and open heart and let the game flow...

| This weekend Playland-Not-at-the-Beach is hosting its 2nd annual Houdini Magic Weekend with performers on stage from 10 AM to 5 PM Saturday and Sunday. For this special occasion we have pulled out one of our most incredible treasures for everyone to get a good look at him. This Wizard Automaton makes objects disappear and change shapes. Normally he is hidden away in a glass case next to one of our Laughing Sals. But this weekend bring your cameras and you can get a real up-close look at him in motion.

Everyone's favorite weekend at Playland-Not-at-the-Beach is our annual Houdini Magic Weekend when there is magic everywhere. This weekend (March 20-21) is more astounding than any of our previous events! Schedule subject to change. No additional charge to attend as many shows as you like, tips are most welcome to help the performers cover their travel expenses. Each performer is donating his/her time and talent to be part of this big event.

Schedule for Saturday, March 20th

10 AM with Heather Rogers, and Heather has promised a free magic trick for everyone in attendance. Heather is absolutely wonderful -- charming, astounding, beautiful. Every little girl wants to grow up to become Heather. www.heathersmagic.com

At 11:00 AM we have a special surprise performer demonstrating some new magical inventions. An award winner and inventor!

At Noon we bring back one of our Playland favorites.

At 1:00 PM we have Jerry and Reggie, the funniest magician ventriloquist act anywhere. Which one is the dummy?

At 2:00 PM we are proud to feature one of our newest performers who is fast becoming an audience favorite -- Fabulous Frank!

At 3:00 PM we have Professor B's Flea Circus. This is their first time performing at Playland-Not-at-the-Beach, and Professor B is not only going to have his 11 trained fleas perform, but he is going to explain the difficulties in training wild fleas. Among the celebrity fleas is a Rock 'n' Roll imitator -- Elvis Presflea.

At 3:30 PM we feature Peter Kim with his celebrated mentalism experiments.

Sunday, March 21

The shows begin at 11:00 AM with one of our most popular performers, Mike DellaPenna. If he doesn't leave you in giggles, you don't have a funny bone. Yes, he is bringing Clara - the Clarevoyant Duck with him!

At Noon we are thrilled to feature Dan X. Solo with his amazing experiments in mentalism.

At 1:00 PM we we proudly introduce The Baffling Balzerak! He will astound you, and the closer you sit to watch, the more baffling the show becomes. The Baffling Balzerak will be presenting multiple shows Sunday afternoon.

At 2:00 PM we welcome back Ric and Kara Ewing, two of your all-time favorites.

At 3:00 PM we again present The Baffling Balzerak in a different show of his astounding powers.! He will astound you, and the closer you sit to watch, the more baffling the show becomes.

Remember that this schedule is tentative. We have other magicians who will be performing in-between the on-the-hour shows. Bring all your friends. Help spread the word. Let's make this Houdini Magic Weekend an incredible event to remember forever!

All the magic shows are FREE with admission. Playland-Not-at-the-Beach's regular attractions will all be available -- 30+ pinball machines set on Free Play, carnival games for FREE, miniature dioramas, historic films of Whitney's Playland and the Sutro Baths, Penny Arcades (we even supply the pennies!) Pay one price, stay all day and Play! Kids are $10 (up to 14 years old), seniors are $10 (55 and older), and general admission is $15. Yes, we are a non-profit 501c3. That's how we can afford to keep our prices so low.
