<![CDATA[Hi, Happy Friday. I hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead of you. I am an experienced Nanny with myriad positive and memorable experiences working with children of all ages and needs. I have worked with infants 3 weeks and up, toddlers, school age children, special needs kids, as a full time Nanny, as a part time Nanny, with a total of five (infant twins, 4 yr old, 6 yrs old and 9 yr old) children within the one family. For other families I have worked with a majority of 3 children, sometimes 4 and in the above instance five. This has included multiples, infant triplets to be exact, siblings and twins. I have done overnights and have worked extensively with HIV+/AIDS infants in Africa. I also have experience tutoring school age children in reading, writing and English, Spanish and working as a teaching assistant and tutor in college. I have also worked with children with special needs. The children that I have worked with that have special needs have included medical needs (those that need oxygen on a regular or occasional basis, breathing treatments, have eating tubes, have medical problems related to specific syndromes such as Down Syndrome) and those with medical and other needs such as children with Autism that have severe allergies and need food monitoring and specific diets and more. I am looking for a Nanny position(that would be part or full time time but certainly long term) for 2,3,4,5 or 7 full days+ during the week (see below for more details on schedule, I am big on flexibility and working together as certainly days and times can change depending on the week). I believe greatly in long term positions as this allows a loving and lasting relationship to develop between the nanny, the children and the family (see below for more of my childcare philosophies). I think taking kids on a summer or spring picnic with a basket of fresh watermelon (or other fresh fruit) and some healthy sandwiches can be a great outing, in the past kids have even brought along their teddy bear and we have had teddy bear picnics! I also enjoy doing arts and crafts with products from nature, as this is cost effective, educational and fun. (Three for the price of one!) In the past I have built forts inside (on a rainy day) with sheets and towels, perfect for an imaginary adventure. With little babies, I spend time helping them move their limbs around, through dance and developmental movement. I laugh with then, tickle them, cuddle with them, read with them, play blocks with them, do baby puzzles and have great time with water play in the bath. I can cook simple meals without recipes and with recipes enjoy cooking more challenging dishes. In the past as part of my childcare responsibilities I have done child laundry, cleaned up the play area, bathed and dressed the children, and taken care of happy family pets. I have also done pet sitting. I believe in experiential learning, in other words allowing children to develop their imagination and understanding of the world through participating in things that are hands on. Creating art from recycled wares, painting, play doh-ing, and other crafts. I also believe greatly in the importance of make believe play, dressing up, putting on play make up, running around in circles pretending to be fairies. Childhood should be memorable, fun and simultaneously educational! I am hoping to find an open-minded, laughter-filled, creative energy-filled household in the aforementioned bay areas (I drive), in which I can develop a loving and memorable relationship with your little human beings! ALSO I have included below a list of duties I have been responsible for in the past when caring for infants and toddlers; - first and foremost ensure that the little ones are safe and happy and shower them with love - diaper changes ( of course), ensure little ones are not getting diaper rash, check their stools (runny, solid and so on) -dressing children for outside play, dressing them for bed or for inside play if they are a little under the weather and their immune systems need a little break from outside germs :) - scheduled bottle feedings, (whether formula or pre-pumped breast milk), I have also helped first time mothers develop feeding and sleeping schedules that work for them and their little one(s), I also have worked with parents who follow attachment parenting and who use demand feeding. -transitioning older infants to safe solids/finger foods, ( One of the little girls that I used to watch loved pieces of avocado, baked squash, soft pasta, baked and extra soft potato, a little cheese cut up into small bits, teething biccies and so on) -bathing infants and toddlers on a daily basis, ensuring water safety at all times but simultaneously teaching them to enjoy the water, teaching them to swim -helping to develop healthy sleep patterns and similar sleep routines, of course, this is easier said than done, lol, -putting children of all ages to sleep (different ages may need different things, story time, rocking chair time, all need cuddle time :) -potty training in a kind and respectful manner, helping children understand what they are learning to do and why -watching to see if infants and toddlers reach developmental milestones, let parents know if something is concerning in this area -administering medicines if working with a special needs child or a child with special health issues, ensuring that children with allergies do not have access to foods with the allergens in them -when with 2 or more children ensuring that I engage each of them in age appropriate, developmentally sound activities (this includes many things, for little babies, body movement, dancing, singing, reading, laughing, working on language acquisition though a variety of fun and educational games) (with toddlers this might include safe arts and crafts, imaginary play time, dress up, singing, reading, outings to the park, museums and so on, often I would bring the baby as well, as they would enjoy this too) -setting up play dates -cooking healthy, often organic and vegetarian (depending on family's lifestyle needs) meals -taking the children on educational outings, in the past some have included trips to museums in the city, trips to water parks in the summer, camping trips with school-age children, the occasional theatre event, the aquarium in and so on. - baby and toddler laundry -cleaning and keeping the play room and bed room areas tidy after play -talking walks on a daily basis, weather permitting -when a child is having a difficult day and may be acting up (usually this is a result of something like being hungry or over tired) giving age-appropriate time out (4 minutes of sitting down time for a 4 year old who purposely tried to bite her younger brother and so on) -grocery shopping, errands for the mother if she wants to spend some alone time with one of the kids, I will take the other with me and make the task at hand fun -driving children to and from preschool, play dates and so on -teaching children a second language -sometimes keeping a nanny log -finally working with the parents of the children as a team, in a cooperative manner, as this helps the children as it gives them a sense of consistency I hope this has answered all of your questions.
