I'm running it through a Mesa 2x12 rectifier cabinet with vintage 30's which sounds a hell of a lot better than the 1x12 Orange cab I bought it with. Comes with hard case. All solid wood. Way better than Baby Taylors and tiny Martins in the sound department. I bought this for $700 on eBay last year. <![CDATA[This is the best sounding small amp I've ever played. It's mainly for acoustic guitar and voice, so if you're a shredder you should move on. Schertler makes some great amps, and this one has a decent sounding built in spring reverb, and multiple inputs (including a preamp for voice, so you can use this for gigging in small spaces. I used it only for practice next to my couch). EQ and pre-outs. Check it out on Schertler's website if you aren't familiar. If you're looking at an AER, Genz-Benz, or those other acoustic amps, you should really buy this one.]]>

It is a 5 octave stereo touch sensitive keyboard with 128 GM voices 8 drum kits and 100 Rhythms. Includes a registration feature which stores front panel settings that you have chosen for a voice. It has effects such as sustain and ambience. Voices can be layered and split,allowing up to three voices playing simultaneously from the keyboard. Voices can be harmonised when auto accompaniment is on and there are variations which help the harmony match style of rhythm. There is an on board sequencer which holds 3 songs and a ROM cartridge slot which adds songs and styles and registrations,though cartridges maybe hard to come by. The keyboard is tunable by Octaves and so the range of a voice can be offset by an octave from the main voice which is transposable in semitones,this is good when layering as the second voice needn't be in the same octave as the main voice. There is an 8 track mixer which has a bar graph indication of the volume of the sections playing and also you are able to mute the tracks or change what voice is playing back. The accompaniment section can be rendered small or large scale and can respond to either the lower or the whole keyboard. There are two modes for auto accompaniment - fingered or single. Single plays the chord from one key and fingered has you choose the chord manually. The song sequencer has a repeat section facility so you can practice given bars of music over and over again - the slight problem being that the looping leaves a gap before repeating,so this throws your timing out. The 420 has a couple of Yamaha type features which are rather peculiar - OTS and "Minus one" and "Accompaniment Freeze". The Freeze button holds onto the current Accompaniment setting when recalling registrations The minus one mode turns off one or both of the parts played by a demo song or cartridge so you can play it yourself - such features are really in the domain of a beginner or organist and do not really suit keyboardists and synth players. OTS is One Touch setting and sets all the parameters to match the current style - so if you are playing country you may get a steel guitar and if you are playing a ballad you may get a sax. Local control for MIDI is supported meaning that you can disconnect the keyboard from the sound generating system,which enables playing through a PC for recording/playback with music software. There are MIDI IN and OUT ports but no THRU - a Sustain jack and for better or worse the headphone socket is on the front left side rather than the rear,this is good if you don't want your phones cable trailing over the keyboard,but bad if you want a LINE out connection at the rear and find you have not got one. The keyboard includes a GUIDE system which stops the play and waits for you to press the key when playing back a song,also indicating which key to press on it's LED display above each key - this makes learning songs quite easy. The effects pads generate little snippets of drum flambes or noise effects as opposed to having drum pad keys - the drums can be triggered from the keys anyway - or just in the split section,and the effects vary the pitch according to what chord is playing in the accompaniment. Touch response is good and also adjustable - it shows how effective it is when used with the Grand Piano which is perhaps Yamaha's forte - so to speak. The LCD display is not backlit which means you cannot see it in the dark. Since I originally posted, someone sent me information about this type of tamboura. <a href="http://aacm.org/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=72_108" rel="nofollow">http://aacm.org/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=72_108</a> "This flatback tanpura has a full, rich sound and is much more portable than a regular gourded tanpura. It is 53 inches long, 8 inches at its widest,...$650.00" I found this information online about the Tamboura: Tanpura (also spelled tamboura, tambura, tamboora, etc.) is a stringed drone instrument used in all Indian classical music. There's a slight difference between the North Indian "tanpura" which has a gourd resonator (and is consequently very fragile) and the South Indian "tamboura" which uses a much sturdier carved wooden resonator. The standard instrument has four strings tuned Fifth (or Fourth), Tonic, Tonic, lower octave Tonic. Some modern instruments have five or six strings, in which case these either double existing strings or are tuned to other important notes in the raga (e.g., Third, Sixth, Seventh). The bridge on a tanpura (and on sitar and some other instruments) is about an inch deep and has a slight curve called "jawari" which causes the string to vibrate against the edge of the bridge, giving that wonderful metallic twang characteristic of Indian instruments. A special feature of the tanpura is a small thread is inserted between the string and the bridge. When the thread is pulled into just the right position the string is further pressed against the bridge, releasing numerous overtones (think BUZZING) as well as giving it a greatly increased sustain. The neck of the instrument is hollow, making it in essence a secondary resonating chamber. All in all the tanpura is an incredible and versatile instrument, even if it plays only one or two notes. You'll see them listed as being "male," "female," and "instrumental." The "male" tanpura is large (about 4and1/2 feet long) and tuned in the general range of C#. (A tanpura really sounds good only within a very limited note range) The "female" tanpura is somewhat smaller and is tuned around an F#. The instrumental tanpura is somewhat more versatile. It's generally made with a wooden flatback resonator (nice and sturdy, easily carried) and is pitched an octave above the usual tanpura range (although a recent trend is to put wound guitar strings on for a lower register). Depending on the gauge of string used it can be tuned to almost any tonic pitch. I didn't care who it was made by, which is why I didn't have to pay $3000 for this kind of quality. I think the proprietor said it was made by an Oakland Bass Luthier who had died before I bought it.
