A mix can make a huge difference to a song. Ever check out the difference between Butch Vig's and Andy Wallace's mix of Smells Like Teen Spirit?

What I'm offering is a very low price so i can work on good material and build up my portfolio.

Most studios try and dazzle with all the expensive gear they have. Gear is great. I love it. But the truth is good mixes don't come from great gear. They come from great ears. Over the years I've been in many bands that recorded with students in expensive studios. None of that sounds good.

That said, I do use quality gear, a large treated room, and good monitors.

I'm musician myself. Been in bands for years. I understand that you don't just want a generic mix that sounds like everything else. I try and find the natural direction of your music and make it stronger.

I'm tempted to set a price at $40 per song depending on track count, song length, and amount of revisions. Contact me with any questions.

I am a dance music producer looking for an experienced piano teacher/composer for brainstorming new ideas for some of my upcoming singles. The main focus is to create Chord Progressions and Counter Melodies for Dance Music. Classically-trained composer/pianist JooWan Kim heads up the Ensemble Mik Nawooj, which muscles up moody classical chamber music with funk beats and some fine rhymes by MC Kirby Dominant. This "great integration" works surprisingly (perhaps even shockingly) well. Ensemble Mik Nawooj sounds like something Wu-Tang Clan producer The RZA might conjure up if he got his hands on the Kronos Quartet: dramatic strings, staccato piano riffs, and cinematic flute loops woven through street beats and poetic lyrical flows. When the Wu-Tang entered the 36 Chambers, they probably didn't expect an actual chamber music ensemble to be behind door 35. But who ever said hip-hop had to use two turntables and a microphone?" - J. Graham

Review from the San Francisco Classical Voice
The first half concluded with the highlight of the evening, JooWan Kim's Ave M (2008), for soprano and ensemble (the composer on piano; Valentino Pellizzer, drums; Rob Woodcock, string bass). The 13 words of the text were set in five contrasting sections over 10 minutes in a distinctive postminimalist style. Harmonies varied from relatively static, arpeggio-based sections to provocative, Baroque-inspired, harmonic sequences. Meanwhile, Moss carried her beautiful, melodic to melismatic lines with powerful expression, resulting in an enthusiastic audience reception at the conclusion. -Jeff Dunn
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't waste my time, and I won't waste yours.

I'm a proficient 26 year old lead guitarist, energetic free-spirit, and potential songwriter who is primarily driven by 1960's Americana/garage/punk, some 50's music and bubblegum, vocal and instrumental surf music, 60's British rock and pop, and both American and British music that emerged on the threshold of pure psychedelia and pre-psychedelic music such as the Velvet Underground, the Deep, pre-punk like the MC5 and Blue Cheer, and others.

Ideally, I would like to start that is overall loose and creative, yet with some degree awareness and cohesion in musical direction. Do you enjoy serendipity, good food and making music? Do you play trumpet? Trombone? Sax? Clarinet? Accordion? Sousaphone? Other loud instrument?

I'm trying to put together a small brass band (or big, heck why not!) for this Friday afternoon around 4:30 as part of a hilarious picnic for my brother's 40th birthday party in Golden Gate Park on Friday the 19th of March(ing band). He's really into frisbee and I'm really into cooking, so if you want to toss a disc and eat great home-cooked food, in exchange for helping surprise him with something similar to the "Extra Action Marching Band" concept, let me know.

Just so you know who you'll be befriending here: Andrei is a dad of two fun boys, 5 and 7. Andrei wrote the book on Ultimate--almost literally. He was the captain of the Stanford University Ultimate team when he was in grad school and they won all the championships. I'm one of the founders of the SF Bicycle Coalition and other bicycle culture mainstays. I created the Wiggle as a public concept, and the Bike Mural on Duboce. Almost all my efforts are volunteer-based and I don't see why this should be any different. It could be a great way to make friends, play music and have a fun picnic.

The idea would be to gather with the others who might respond and come to the picnic together, playing some agreed simple but hilarious tune that everyone knows.

What do you think? I may be able to get some additional instruments--a friend collects old beat-up brass instruments.

Joel

My name is Eric. I'm 28 years-old.

I am interested in finding one (or more) comedians to play musical instruments with. I am also interested in renting a practice space. I live in Mountain View, but am not against meeting, or renting in any other area, including San Francisco.

Let's make each other shit our pants in between songs. Some starters if you're blank include:

1) The most creative ways you've gotten out of work
2) The voices you made when you called in sick
3) Impressions of your boss
4) That one thing you did/heard about

The most important thing here though is to attempt to create "the chills" by our awesome riffs. You know, like when you hear "The Diamond Sea" and you're all alone, or some shit like that. Or when you're driving in your car listening to Slant 6. Actually, having a sense of humor and not being a total piece of shit are way up there.

Some of my favorite bands off the top include: Sebadoh, Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Grandaddy, Pavement, and I know, I know, the album "Live Through This" by Hole.

If you wear all black clothing more than once a week, have ever owned a pair of "JNCO" pants, own DOD effects pedals, get regular haircuts: you're not funny, so I can't be bothered.

Unfortunately, like so many others: I play guitar. But I own a cool fucking guitar and good sounding equipment. I am a Fender man. It's not a Strat either. You must own your own gear. If you possess no musical instruments, you must bring a Shure SM58 microphone and perform standup comedy for me to critically evaluate.

I'm lonely, you know?

PS: I don't suck, and if you like some of the bands I listed above, I have some riffs that you'll swear by. Some of this shit just needs you know, more than one person!

I have a beautiful olympic white Fender Jazz bass for you to use if your shit sucks.

Also, you don't actually have to be a comedian. I have received responses from those concerned they may not be funny enough. I'm not funny either. I'm a scared, lonesome soul with many fears I'd like to share with you.
I only work with my voice and an acoustic guitar so I'm lacking the beats and instrumentation I need to make these songs into my vision for them. I'm currently trying to focus on a particular song of mine that I want to incorporate a more hip hop feel to while still maintaining its original feel. Say It Right by Nelly Furtado and Timbaland is a good example...great hip hop beat with emotional pop vocals. I need someone who has the ability to make a good quality recording and who can also add an original beat and other sounds to make the song complete. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who is interested. Send links to your work if you can. Thanks!

Ok, so here's the deal - I love playing shows. And I love playing music which makes people dance. Unfortunately, I can't write hits like Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, ZZ Top, Tom Petty, The Eagles, etc. Fortunately, I can play their music. I'm looking for folks in the same type of situation who can learn songs on their own and come together a couple of weekends a month to practice, and then play some shows now and again. Not looking to tour, make lots of money, etc.

I play rhythm guitar, sing, and I'm generally good at making things happen. I'm looking for everything else: Drums, bass, lead guitar and keys. I have practice space, but it's very very small and would only just fit five people. I also have drums at my place too.

Let me know if you're interested and reply with a little information about yourself please. Thanks.

Rhyne will give you the tools you need, to play any style of music at any tempo, and the ability to play the drums the way you hear them in your head. He will also teach you a process for learning and mastering very complex drum patterns, breaking down difficult tasks into small simple elements, mastering each element, and then very slowly building them back up into complex patterns through a regulated, incremental process. Dear Musicians,

am selling my violin which I bought at $16,000. This special instrument that I am selling at only $10,000 is due to the fact that I am downgrading instruments and want to sell this instrument at an affordable price. This is a wonderful opportunity for talented students needing a professional quality instrument which can carry them through college and beyond. It is a great solo and first violin of a quartet edge while keeping the warmth in the sound.

About the Maker:

Douglas Cox received his early training at the State Violin Making School in Mittenwald, Germany in the late 1960's. He spent ten years as head of the repair department and chief restorer for the firm of J. Bradley Taylor, Inc. in Boston, servicing the finest instruments in the New England area. Since 1981 he has devoted himself to building fine new instruments. His home and studio are in the hills outside Brattleboro, Vermont, not far from Marlboro Music and the Yellow Barn Music Festival.
To his making of new instruments, Doug brings the discipline and workmanship of his early training tempered with years of study of fine old instruments and extensive experience in tonal adjustment for the most demanding professional players. He continues to stretch his making abilities and understanding of what makes violins work by building close copies of unusual and noteworthy master instruments.
Since 1981 Doug has built more than 600 violins, violas, cellos, and baroque instruments.
