Do you want to sing? Love to sing? NEED to sing?

" . . . even though a singer may have a profound understanding of musical style, an imaginative temperament that can serve as a vehicle for artistic expression and a vocal instrument of promise, these positive attributes cannot be perceived by the listener if the mechanics of technique are faulty. It is not enough for the singer to have something to say; the means for saying it with ease must be present. An understanding of physical function may make the difference between the emergence of a solid technique of singing and a lifelong struggle with the mechanics."

~ Richard Miller from "The Structure of Singing"

Have you always wanted to sing? Are you a beginner who understands the importance of a strong foundation? Perhaps you have some singing experience, but now realize that you bypassed that all-important foundation (i.e., "vocal mechanics") and are experiencing problems or find that you are unable to progress any further as a result? Has the absence of vocal training undermined your musical self-confidence?

I am a classically trained, professional singer with 30+ years of experience in various performance genres, in addition to teaching experience. I love to teach passionate students; students who truly want to succeed and make their voices the very best that they can become. I will assess your voice and ear during our initial session. If I feel I can help you, I will teach you the techniques of proper breathing, support and breath management (i.e., appoggio), intonation, vocal health, singer's diction, etc. Vocal exercises will be liberally employed throughout your lesson time, as they are the very best tool to help develop and strengthen your voice, eliminate/smooth 'breaks' (i.e., passagios), and eventually expand your vocal range, if possible.

Once you have established a strong foundation and are ready to grow, I will teach you about dynamics and how to phrase a tune artistically so that you can properly and effectively tell its story. A good voice is only part of the picture; dynamics, phrasing, a good ear and rhythmic sense are other important/essential elements of the equation.

What are some of the benefits of vocal training?

Vocal Excellence

Avoid Vocal Injury

Musical Self-Confidence

Preserve Your Voice for the Long Haul

Pleasure for Both You and Your Audience!

I accept male and female students -- serious late teens (18 & 19) through adult. If you have the drive and desire to learn the secrets of good singing technique -- those things that will give you musical self-confidence -- I invite you to my voice studio where you can learn them in a safe, supportive environment. Stuck on balancing chemical equations or forces in physics? Confused by proofs in geometry or trigonometric identities? Evergreen Education can help!

In math, many students are simply lacking familiarity with basic concepts, because they are often neglected in modern curriculums. By returning to these building blocks we can help students master new information in class. In science, we encourage students to fully understand new ideas with analogies to situations they already understand.

Evergreen Education is a group of tutors who have teamed together to offer students the best of both worlds: the flexibility and personal rapport of a private tutor and the diverse range of subjects, for all ages and education levels, offered by tutoring firms. We are all professional educators who have had prior experience in public and private schools, in working as tutors for large companies, or as the primary educator for homeschooling families. And, of course, we all have many years experience in private, one-on-one tutoring.

On the Eastside we have math tutors for all levels from elementary through advanced calculus, and biology, chemistry and earth science tutors. In Seattle we have math tutors for all students up through pre-calculus, and physics, chemistry, earth science and biology tutors. Our tutors have experience with preparation for SAT, ACT, GRE, MSAT and ISEE tests. Our tutors include alumni from the University of Washington, and the University of Cambridge, England. Many are retired or current school teachers: one of our math tutors has been teaching for over 40 years! We are familiar with all the local math curriculums and most of the science curriculums.

We also offer tutoring in all levels of English and language arts, Spanish, French, Latin and ESL. We encourage students to improve their study and organizational skills, and can prepare them for SAT, ACT, ISEE, GRE and many other tests. We have tutors in north and south Seattle, as well as in Redmond, Bellevue, Sammamish and Issaquah. Our tutors typically charge $45 per hour, although some tutors may offer a discount for multiple hours per week, or for groups of two or more students. Please contact Emma Garside at (425) 443-3274 or admin@evergreened.org for more information. Or simply search for our other subject-specific Craigslist ads.
Hello, I'm Chris in Mill Creek. I have been playing guitar (electric & acoustic) since 1993 and been playing electric bass guitar since 1996. I can play rhythm and lead guitar, and can teach students (youngsters and oldsters) to play guitar anywhere from the basic (beginning) levels - intermediate (slightly advanced) levels. I can teach you how to play all of your chords, barre chords and scales to learn how to play lead guitar. I can teach you strumming techniques and alternate picking techniques to play all of your favorite guitar riffs and solos. If you are slightly more advanced, I can teach you how to do pinch harmonics, neck tapping, arpeggios, hamer on, pull offs, etc.

If you play bass guitar, I can teach you from the beginning levels - intermediate. I can teach you how to hold the bass properly and I can play either with or without a pick, so I can show you both ways. I can teach you some walking bass lines in major and minor modes, as well as showing you a lot of your favorite songs, as we go over bass tab. Also, I can show you a bit of improvising/soloing and doing some slap/pop techniques.

I can only do house calls, so, I can come to your house, if you're within 0-10 miles away. So, if you live in South Everett, Mill Creek, Lynnwood, Bothell, Mt. Terrace or Brier. My rates are $20 per half hour and $30 per hour. Also, I am really good about giving specials, like, you pay for 3 lessons, i'll give you the 4th for 1/2 off, stuff like that. I have taught several people in the past, but I want to get back into it again. I have taught people from the ages of 12-65, all levels. E-mail me if you're interested and we can exchange phone numbers to talk more about it. I'm available most afternoons during the week and many times on the weekends.

References Available

Lee's Drum Studio

*************************

Hello and thank you for checking out my ad!

This is my 7th year teaching and I have 42 years experience playing drums ( which includes much experience in live indoors/outdoors concerts, large commercial/small private studio, small club, large venue, and on the road touring. Therefore I can pass on my 40+ yrs of experience to you.

===============================================

Lessons on drumkit (single bass or double bass), snare and percussion are offered. I have double bass pedal for Left Handed drummer as well. I teach to fit your needs.

I am located central to Edmonds/Lynnwood/Everett/Shoreline/Mukilteo and Bothell area.

My drum studio is located in the Meadowdale part of Edmonds, just a few short miles from any of the mentioned locations ( as well as Mills Creek, southern Lake Stevens, Brier, Mountlake Terrance, and northern Seattle) and have been teaching there for 6 years. Read more about me below.
=======================================
www.leesdrumstudio.com
=======================================
Hours are from 11am to 8:00pm M-F and we can work out a schedule for you. Lessons are given once a week ( unless a special circumstance is needed for intense and quick results).

Both half hour and one hour classes are offered

You only ever pay for 4 classes each month so when that 5th class comes up on your day, you get it at no charge. This allows you to keep that class as a makeup class, in case you need to miss a lesson. If you have no misses, then those extra classes become FREE! It's as easy as that.

Here is what some of my students and parents of students have said about me!

==============================================================
"Lee, Dominic thinks you are an awesome drum teacher. He really likes the lessons."

Tu Nguyen - Edmonds, WA Aug 2, 2010
----------------------------------------------------------------

"Hello Lee, We are having possible location changes (hopefully a house with room for a drum kit). I know Dylan really enjoys class and thanks for all your dedication to teaching him."

Desiree Shafman - Edmonds, WA July 6, 2010

------------------------------------------------------------

"So far all the lessons I have taken are very informative and interesting. Lee makes it easy to understand and a joy to learn. Of course I'd recommend him to someone I know. He is very knowledgable about drumming and everything that has to do with it. I would consider him an expert on the subject and that is who I want to learn drums from. I found it much better to take lessons from a local experienced drum teacher in person than mystery teachers online and books."

Dan Cousino, Lake Stevens, WA Jan 5, 2010

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Lee, it was a good choice to take from a drum teacher one on one, because you have shown me so many different ways to look at the same beat or drum fill. After trying to learn on my own with some help from videos, I came away feeling lost. They showed one way and I can only praise you for being able to get me seeing things much clearer now. I want to thank you sincerely for caring and spending so much time with me on the things I have trouble with. I look forward to more lessons from you. Now my wife doesn't think I am crazy to have wanted to learn drums at age 32. *laugh*"

Adrian Perez, Marysville, WA Nov 3, 2009

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"The drum lessons have all been thorough, informative and easy to understand. I have yet to leave a lesson confused or unsure of what I was supposed to take away from it, and I feel that virtually every week I have learned something new that I can incorporate into my playing. I definitely would recommend Lee Henderson to someone else for drum lessons. I can tell a noticeable improvement in my playing, and I haven't been taking the lessons (or even owned this kit) for a year yet. I feel like in this relatively short time, I've really become a much better drummer than I ever could have without the lessons."

Ian Nelson, -Shoreline, WA -Aug 30, 2009

----------------------------------------------------------------

"Lee is awesome! At 38 years old, I got an urge to play the drums, and Lee has made that a reality. Not quite giggin' yet, but after about 3 months time, already keeping time for my son, who plays guitar, and jamming with friends. The first thing that struck me when I called Lee was his obvious passion for the drums, he truly loves what he does. I have a difficult schedule, and he was more than willing to work with me on that, to find a suitable time for everyone. His lessons were challenging, but clear, a lot of fun, and everything made sense when all was brought together; it just flowed. Thanks Lee!"

Todd Burkham, Camano Island, WA May 14 2009

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Lee, Cameron loves his drum lessons and music is very important to us and the children."

Ken Aitken - Edmonds, WA - April 7, 2009

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Lee, I want to thank you for the time you take to usher me through the many dimensions of drum playing. I appreciate the way you allow me to view your ideas and explore them. I feel I have improved 100% just in the last 3 months since signing on with you in December. It's a pleasure learning drums from you. I tried the round tip sticks you recommended and love them! See you Tues dude!"

Brady Phillips - Lynnwood, WA - Feb 2009

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"We highly recommend Lee Henderson to anyone who wants to learn to play the drums! He takes his job seriously as a teacher, yet incorporates fun activities so the students gain knowledge, while having lots of fun! Lee plans lessons so that students are ensured to progress over time, learning more and more challenging material. The other thing we love about Lee, besides his talents as an incredible drummer and teacher, is that he takes a special interest in each student. Two Christmas's ago, Lee knew I wanted to give my daughter (then 10 years old) a drumset. He recommended and helped me purchase a high quality drumset at a very good sale price. When we got the set, he gave us tips on setup and I brought a few of the drums in for him to tune. He is a full service professional that invests highly in his students - and it shows. We love Lee!"

Maria Fuller - Edmonds, WA - December 2008

---------------------------------------------------------------

"Lee, you are an excellent quality teacher. You truly care about your students. My son Tyler came to you with absolutey no music experience, and you were more than willing to take him on as a student. Tyler has learned so much from you. We can't even begin to Thank You enough. You truly listen to the parents and students and are willing to teach exactly what the student is looking for."

Michele M. Hooper - Mukilteo, WA November 2008

-------------------------------------------------------------------

"Lee, Thank You so much for being my teacher. I was really nervous about starting drum lessons because I had no experience. From the very beginning you made me feel very comfortable, and quickly the nervousness went away. I was always excited to go to drum lessons and see what new skills you had to teach me. I have learned so much from you in such a short time. Thanks for eveything."

Tyler Hooper - Mukilteo, WA November 2008

---------------------------------------------------------------------

"Lee, I can honestly say that you really brought out the inner drummer in Matthew. He had a former music teacher at school that said he had zero musical ability. You connected with him. He became so good that he seldom practices or hands in practice sheets to his band teacher and still gets a B +. He recently played circles around a fellow drummer in a band concert. Drumming is now effortless for him and he takes it for granted. You are an excellent teacher and I heartily recommend you to any parent wanting their kid to develop as a drummer."

Doug Middleton- Shoreline, WA - November 2008

------------------------------------------------------------

"Lee, Thanx for all your hard work with Nathan. And 15 mins from the south side of Lake Stevens. I have students from all these areas presently.

Don't settle for taking lessons on rubber pads, or pay the high price of the "drum schools". Take lessons on a real acoustic drum kit so you can hear and feel how the drums are supposed to be. Get custom lessons from an experienced drummer at a very reasonable price. I teach in my own studio with much more space than the stalls at the music stores.

I provide 3 different acoustic drum kits to accomodate everyone. Left handed, right handed? It's covered! I also use double bass pedals for the students who wish to learn double bass drumming!

I demonstrate on my kit so the student can hear what it sounds like, not just get told what it sounds like. I use charts with illustrations and notation and we talk about the uses and possibilities of what can be done with each exercise. I also teach those who don?t care to learn reading/theory. Let?s face it, the bulk of all drummers from last decades did not read music. But it?s smart to know how IMHO.

School band students welcome! I passed off the 26 Standard Rudiments in High School band and followed by also learning all 40 International drum rudiments. I played in jazz band, concert band, and marching band. I took music theory in both HS and College. I teach snare/set/percussion at your request. I also have concert snare, bass drum, bells, and gong, in studio.

You have the option of 1/2 hr or 1 hr lessons. Ask about the bonus lessons as mentioned above. Lessons:

A Chinese writer offers Chinese lessons in Writing, Speaking, and Listening comprehension. The tutor does not speak English, so the lessons are ideal for students with some knowledge about Mandarin and desire "total immersion." She prepares classes tailored specifically for each student and gives bonus lessons for persistent students. Students must come to teacher's house in the Eastlake neighborhood right next to Lake Union which is very close to Downtown Seattle. She currently has several students, all of whom have decided to stay with her after the first 1-hr consultation appointment ($10). Do you want your children to learn to love and play music from a very young age? The Suzuki method of teaching incorporates natural learning processes into the teaching of a musical instrument, so that children can painlessly and enjoyably become proficient musicians. Students begin playing complete pieces right away. Proper technique, beautiful tone, and a sense of joy in playing music are the most important aspects of Suzuki teaching. Children can start lessons as young as four years old!

I am a classically trained guitarist with eighteen years of experience in the instrument - I have been teaching guitar in the Suzuki method in Seattle for the past three years and will now be offering lessons at Pacific Northwest School of Music in Bellevue (www.pnsm.org). I am now accepting students for September and the coming school year. All students will participate in weekly private lessons and biweekly group lessons (another cornerstone of the Suzuki method), and perform in recitals. Well, okay, maybe not a rock star exactly - but a successful and respected indie singer/songwriter, guitarist, and guitar teacher.

I've been playing guitar for almost twenty years now; I adore the instrument, and I love teaching other people to play it. I've had an excellent education in classical guitar technique as well as music theory from some brilliant guitarists, and I have found teaching to be my niche as well - I am a great communicator with all kinds of people, and am able to help my students gain a complex understanding of theory and technique.

I am not self-taught, but rather was classically trained in guitar since early childhood by some of the best guitarists in the country. I can teach you proper technique, which is the key to being able to make unlimited progress in playing guitar. Whether your final goal is to learn a few chords or to be able to play ANYTHING on the guitar, I can help you get there by the shortest, most fun route possible.

The most important thing to me as a teacher is that my students have an enjoyable learning experience. Whether they are kids or adults I expect them to adopt the guitar as a source of delight and inspiration. To this end, I focus a lot on the creative and artistic side of playing music. I believe musicians should have a complete understanding of music, including reading and writing it, hearing and analyzing it, understanding and creating it. I give my students these "language skills" in music as a whole, in addition to guitar playing technique.

I teach from my home on Capitol Hill; my rate is $40 per hour. (I also teach one day per week at a music school on the Eastside - contact me for details if you live over there!)

The world of professional guitarists is still very much dominated by men, so I am especially interested in teaching women who may have had trouble finding a non-intimidating and non-condescending learning experience. However, all genders and ages are welcome, I will be happy to work with you whoever you are!

I also teach in line with your specific desires--whether you just want to play some songs for a family sing along or become a virtuoso, I tailor your lesson to help you get the most out of it and accomplish your goal. Sometimes a beginner will discover some hidden talent and we'll move along accordingly while still insuring you have the proper foundation as we go.

I enjoy teaching adults--don't let anyone tell you only kids can master a musical instrument! Many of my students have achieved success beyond what they ever thought possible. Numerous students have gone from failing, to getting A's on tests, in as little as two sessions. The majority of my students from the 2009-2010 school year achieved A's in their math and science courses. My love and passion for tutoring has grown into a nationally recognized tutoring company in which I have further perfected my methods and helped pass them on to others.

My tutoring style is aggressive; I am constantly analyzing what a student does and doesn't understand, using my mastery of the material to devise questions that facilitate understanding in weak areas. I am a tutor that truly has a passion for the art of teaching. Many of my students have said that two hours with me is better than a whole week in class.

I am available for travel to student's homes or a preferred location. Subjects that I tutor are listed below:

Math:
Elementary Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Trigonometry, Algebra II, College Algebra, Math Analysis, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, College Calculus (Single Variable), College Calculus (Multi Variable), Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Statistics, AP Statistics, College Statistics.

Science:
Elementary Science, Biology, AP Biology, Anatomy Physiology, Chemistry, AP Chemistry, College Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry, AP Physics B, AP Physics C, Physics: Mechanics, Physics: Electricity and Magnetism, Physics: Optics, Physics: Relativity, Physics: Quantum Mechanics, Thermodynamics.

Standardized Tests:
ISEE, PSAT, SAT I, SAT II, ACT, GRE, GMAT, MCAT, DAT, PCAT, CBEST

Cheers,
Adam

(888) 311-8271

TESTIMONIALS

"Adam is truly a miracle worker. My daughter is a sophomore in a private school with a very rigorous curriculum. She has always struggled in math and had anxiety every time she had a test. After the first quarter this year I received a letter from her teacher that she was failing math. I was very fortunate to find Adam and after speaking with him on the phone I could tell he had a real concern for teaching students such as my daughter. He emphasized his passion for tutoring math and that he thought math was so much fun. My daughter was having her final exam in Algebra 2 the following day and worked with Adam for two hours. When he left he assured me that my daughter would get an A on the exam. Of course, I was very skeptical, especially having had other tutors work with her in the past and never receiving the desired results. That night I could see that she was feeling more confident and sure enough she came home the following day so excited that she did get an A on the test. Adam knows how to connect with students. He has the ability to turn something that my daughter thought was impossible into making her a success. Words cannot express my appreciation to him for not only teaching her in a way she could understand, but also giving her the tools she needed to continue to succeed. He really cared about her and even called the following day to speak to her. I honestly don't know how he accomplished so much with my daughter in so little time except that he has a very special gift."

Nicolle Wyatt, Mother of Viewpoint H.S. Algebra II Student

"I found out about Adam because my little sister was using him as a geometry tutor. When I began struggling in AP Calculus my mom suggested I use Adam. I had no idea it was possible to tutor math all the way from geometry to calculus but in my first session with Adam I officially decided that he was not only the best tutor I had ever had but also the smartest person I had ever met. Every single question I asked him he knew the answer to and every single problem I showed him he could solve. Since I began using Adam my test scores have gone up significantly. He was so helpful that I also recommended him to my best friend who has also seen a significant increase in her test results. Adam has an extreme knowledge of all levels of math and is genuinely interested in helping everyone who he tutors not only improve their grades but also truly understand the material. I would highly recommend Adam to anyone who needs help with any level of math."

Alex Duhl, AP Calculus Student at Brentwood H.S.

"I hired Adam to perform a nearly impossible task: to teach math to my son, then in college, who had not completed a math class since the seventh grade due to severe illness. Starting in August, Adam had to bring my son to a point where he could test into his grade level (then a sophomore in college) which would allow him to take and succeed in the required math classes to qualify for transfer to a major four-year university in California: all in 6 months. My son did test well enough to take both Pre-Calculus and Statistics in the Spring semester and I am proud to say that with Adam's continued help he earned a B and an A in those classes. I cannot recommend Adam highly enough."

Phil Ames, Father of University of Southern California College Placement Exam Applicant

"Adam is a phenomenal tutor. He is one of the few people who has the natural gift of teaching. He is intelligent, clear and engaging. He not only inspires me to learn, but he makes each session enjoyable and exciting. If asked, I would strongly suggest that he pursue a career in education. But what is most impressive is that Adam took me from a person who had not opened a math book in almost eight years to someone who was so successful on the placement exam that I have placed into the highest math level offered. I have not only reached my goals, I have surpassed them. And this is all thanks to Adam."

Rebecca Hersh-Boyle, Pre-Med Student

"Adam was a truly excellent tutor. His eager and charismatic personality always kept me engaged even if the material was boring or difficult. He made sure I knew how to do a problem in multiple ways, including how to check my work on a calculator which proved to be incredibly useful. During the final 6 weeks of school, my grade raised from a C+ to an A- in calculus which would have never been possible without his help. He is easily the best tutor I have ever had, and because of him I actually started enjoying math class."

Mackenzie, senior calculus student at Marymount High School

"We are so lucky to have found Adam. With his committed, creative and engaging personality, Mitchell's grades raised from a D to a B+ in physics and from a C to an A in pre-calculus in just six weeks. He was truly a great tutor for my son."

Linda S., mother of a senior at Milken Community High School

"I can't even begin to describe how amazing Adam is. He was such a blessing in my life. I had taken college algebra twice in school and was never able to make a passing grade. On my third try, I decided to get a tutor. I went through three private tutors before finding Adam. I wasted hundreds of dollars on tutors who didn't have a clue what they were doing! Feeling hopeless, I decided to give it one last try. It was then that I found Adam. In the end, he was able to take me from an F to a C+ in just two weeks. His ability to explain, what seemed to me like a foreign language, was incredible! He was able to recognize both my weaknesses and my strengths. He never allowed me to feel stupid; instead he encouraged me throughout the entire process. His easy-going personality made the whole process seem like I was meeting with an old friend, not a tutor. Words can't explain the gratitude I feel for him. Adam is amazing!"

Brie, algebra student preparing for college placement exam

Dear Adam

Aidan received his AP test results yesterday and scored a [perfect] 5! We are so delighted with his performance and the savvy way you worked with him this past school year. We found your personable style, consistent encouragement and strategic thinking to be a tremendous asset in building Aidan's skills, confidence and ultimately his abilities in Calculus. Working in the house on our schedule was invaluable for our busy lives too. The whole family would highly recommend you as a tutor to anyone who needed help in math. Aidan has a natural gift in this arena but is often scattered and unwilling to do his work. We saw a real shift in his approach, attitude and performance; and so appreciated the firm but friendly way you interacted with him. It's not easy to work with teens and you have a real knack! Richard and I thank you as does Aidan - know that you helped our son in a big way and helped launch him into a deeper exploration of math. We will keep you posted on his progress at Evergreen.

Warm regards
Kathleen (Mother of Venice H.S. AP Calculus Student)

"I cannot emphasize enough how exceptional Adam is. I am in my junior year of college and have dreaded math my entire educational career. I have been working with Adam for four months in preparation to take the math course required for college graduation. When I began working with him I literally was relearning fractions and basic algebra. I was planning to test into college algebra, the lowest level course to fulfill the requirement I need for my degree, but after my wonderful experience with him I will be testing into calculus! He has a remarkable style that makes even the most difficult of problems simple and fun to understand. His enthusiasm and natural gift for teaching has turned me from an easily frustrated, math-loathing student into one who truly enjoys and looks forward to progressing in mathematics. Trust me, you will be doing yourself a huge favor by choosing to work with Adam. Your brain and patience will thank you."

Preston, student preparing for college placement exam

"Adam was an excellent tutor! By continually analyzing my understanding, he developed a method to best teach me. Every session he inspired me to learn more and kept me excited about the whole process. He also has an unending supply of math tricks; they are so helpful. I don't know what I would do without him."

Adrianna, professional studying trigonometry for career enrichment

GMAT Tutor for former GMAT Class students!
This is for those of you who have been to GMAT classes (I won’t say with whom) and found little or no improvement in your test scores.

Your experience is typical; thousands have gained little from a class that doesn’t look at their particular work, their particular weaknesses. A fortunate few of those thousands of disappointed students have found their way to my tutoring sessions, and every one of them made significant improvement before leaving. It wasn’t them; it was the class.

If you are able to learn and willing to practice, I can teach you all the relevant issues tested on the GMAT, bringing clarity into topics that have always been hazy to you. Then, together, we’ll tear apart each problem in the Official Guides until you’re ready to tackle them on your own. No gimmicks; just a lot of sweat-equity.

On the verbal portion of the exam, you’ll see that what you do naturally when you speak and argue is exactly what they’re testing. We’ll make the unconscious, conscious. My name is Luther. I have over 4 years of professional tutoring experience. I also teach math at a couple local community colleges. I have tutored as people as young as 9 years old to people in their late 40's. I have tutored subjects as basic as arithmetic facts and as complex as Calculus, Infinite series, and GRE Prep. I am very visual and typically try and explain concepts in a visual style. I am, however, very aware that different people have different learning styles and I'm almost always able to explain concepts in your (or your child's) learning style. Below is a review from one of the parents I tutor for... "For the past year and a half Luther has been an incredible tutor for my two children. He is always on time, has a positive attitude, and is ready to work. Luther takes the time to learn what they are doing in school each week and builds on that, helping with concepts for the following weeks. Luther knows how to simplify the concepts and talks in the 'kids language'. With Luther my children have the extra time it takes to achieve a solid 'A' in math and in doing so it gives them pride in their achievments and they strive to have A's in all of their work."
-Kassi Lyon

I have worked for several of the "big guy" tutoring centers. Here are several reasons why you may want myself as a tutor rather than one of these centers followed by my rates...

• One-on-one attention

Many of the tutoring centers can have 3-4 students working with a single tutor at any given time. This means that while you are paying for the entire hour with the tutoring center, the student is not getting undivided attention.

Unless you really desire group rates (see rates below), I give the student undivided attention for the entire session.

• Price

Despite the fact that they don’t focus solely on one student for the entire session, most tutoring centers charge somewhere around $50 per session for one student!

My Rates for a single student are half of that. (and there are discounts if you do have several students that want to do group sessions)

• Location

If you go with a tutoring center, your session must take place at their location, which means more driving for you.

I will drive to your location, which means less driving for you. (If you’d like to meet at a neutral location such as a library, we can do that instead)

My Rates: (1 hour minimum per session)

Single student - $30 per hour
2+ group - $35 per hour for the first two students plus $10 per hour for each student *(example 3 students would be the $35 per hour plus 1*10 dollars for a total of $45 dollars per hour for the entire group)

To contact me, please email me at the email shown above this posting or call (or text me) at (253) 970-4831. I will respond within 1-3 days. I look forward to your questions.

And it should never be forced.

My specialty is the acoustic guitar but I teach the electric guitar as well. I have been teaching the guitar for about 4 years and I love it! I have students of all ages, from 7 years old to people in their 60s, and everywhere in between. I taylor my lessons to each student, and I work hard to find out how you learn and what is the best way to teach you what you want to learn. It is a very casual and low-pressure environment.

I can teach: the basics, chords, finger-picking, folk songs, pop songs, rock songs, blues, soloing, beginning classical, arranging, reading music and tab, alternate tunings, music theory, songwriting, jamming, perfomance, alternate tunings --even singing!

You can bring me songs that you want learn and I can figure out how to play them and show you how to play them, or figure out what it will take to get you to the level where you can play them.

I especially encourage beginners to contact me. Beginning is the hardest part, and a bad teacher can really ruin it for you. I am patient and I love the music, and I'll work hard to help you get over those initial hurdles. I won't test you or make you perform or anything like that, but will let you learn in a natural way, and help you to do so.

I can teach intermediate musicians who want to learn new things, are stuck or bored and want to get more into the guitar and music in general.

$35 per lesson (usally 1 hour or a little longer). I emphasize/believe in having a strong foundation in the fundamentals: Note-Reading, Rhythms, Hand Position, etc. For kids, I try to make studying music be something self-esteem building and fun. (Parents often thank me for my kindness - and patience! :) And for everyone, I try to combine having solid skills with remembering why we're studying music in the first place.

We just had our first recital in May, and everyone enjoyed it a lot. We're going to be having recitals now (for everyone who wants to attend) in the Spring and Fall.

I teach a variety of classical repertoire, fun arrangements of songs (music like 'Star Wars' is often a hit) - and I'm open to working in any styles that a person is motivated to play.
