Her host family needs to speak English as their primary home language. They could be a couple with or without children, or a single parent.
She is going to come for the whole school year (Sept.2010-June 2011) and will attend High School.

Here is a letter she wrote to her future host family:

"Dear my future Parents,
From the beginning of the letter let me write you some information about myself. My name is Guzeliya. I’m 16. I live in the capital of Russian Federation Moscow city. I am a pupil of 9th form of Chinese school 11. I live with my father and mother, I don’t have brother or sister, but I will be happy to have host brother or sister in my American family.
As I live in the megapolis, so I try to use all opportunities of this city.
Firstly, I like to dance, because dancing gives me a lot of energy, good mood and also keeps my body fit.
I prefer to sing songs, because the nature presented me a good feeling for music.
I also like to read books. I think that by reading books we can get more knowledge about something which we are interested in.
I am a fan of running on the beach, and having a rest after.
Sometimes I like to visit different parties, go to see movies and simply walking with many people around my town. I appreciate kind, ambitious and reliable people with a good sense of humour. In our school the major and important language is Chinese one, but we also have English lessons. I would like to know the later deeper than the knowledge which we get from our lessons.
Each summer all voluntaries of our school go to China to improve their language. I was there and had been studying last summer for 2 months in Beijing foreign student university. During that time I improved my Chinese and got more interesting things about culture and traditions of China.
I’m very happy to be involved in school activity; I take part in different competitions, concerts.
I’m also a great volunteer of Moscow Child movement. In this organization we help to veterans of World War II, we organize interesting concert for them. In 2007, 2008 I took part in the demonstration on Red Square.
Being the active participant of this organization we are given holiday tickets to Bulgaria. I have already visited camps of Bulgaria twice.
From this journey I expect to get more friends, (interesting) deep impressions of interesting events, know more about America, its traditions, history, and culture. Must of all to learn the language and know it better.
Receive my gratitude for being so hospitable towards me and inviting me to your place and home. Thank you very much.
With best wishes,
Guzeliya."

If you think you would be interested in becoming her volunteer host parents, please let me know as soon as possible.

I appreciate your help in bringing cultures together for a greater understanding and for a better chance to achieve world peace.

Warmly,

Cecile Malik
CCI Area Representative
(360) 704-8103
www.cci-exchange.org
This enables people to get involved, have an impact and have fun, without the requirements of individual long-term commitments. When we finish each volunteer project, we gather as a group at a local bar or restaurant for food, drinks and the opportunity to continue to get to know each other. This helps to create a really fun social outlet as part of your volunteer experience.

This event is a "fee for service" opportunity for One Brick, which will receive a percentage of concessions sold at the US Senior Open golf tournament. By volunteering at a few "fee for service" events each year, One Brick is able to fundraise the majority of its operating budget. It costs money to run the One Brick web site! Plus, this event will be a blast! 156 Professional and Amateur golfers (over age 50) will compete for the title. More than 125,000 spectators are expected to attend throughout the week. We really appreciate your support on this one, given it is a bit longer shift and it is outside of Seattle. We will help arrange carpools for those interested. Research Volunteers are needed for a study! If you are 18-55 years old and have migraines with aura, you may be eligible to participate in the CAMP Study. A patent foramen ovale (PFO) is an opening or hole between the left and right upper heart chambers that usually closes after birth. People who have migraine with aura are more likely to have a PFO, which may allow small blood clots to pass from the right side of the heart to the brain and cause migraine attacks. It is unknown if a PFO contributes to or worsens migraine-related conditions such as stroke.

The purpose of the CAMP Study is to:

1. Measure conditions that may be common in persons who have migraine with aura such as PFO, sleep problems and memory disturbance;
2. Determine if a PFO affects migraine-related conditions by comparing migraineurs who have a large PFO and migraineurs who do not have a PFO.
In addition to having migraine with aura, half of the people who participate in the study will have a large PFO and half will not have a PFO. If you are 18-55 years old and have been diagnosed with migraine with aura, you may be eligible to participate in the CAMP Study.

What are subjects asked to do for the study?
Step 1. Answer questions about your medical history, medications, lifestyle, migraines, and sleep habits.
Step 2. Have an ultrasound to test for the presence of PFO. Depending on the results of this test, you may have additional tests to study the blood vessels in your brain and your blood platelets.
Step 3. Perform an at-home overnight test using a portable sleep monitor to test for sleep disturbances.
Step 4. Complete tests that measure your ability to think, reason, and remember.
You will be paid $50 after completing Steps 2, 3, and 4 (total $150). You and your doctor will receive a copy of your PFO test and sleep study results. Mentor a child in need!

Mentoring Children of Promise strives to make the best adult/child matches possible by taking into consideration the personalities, activities and interests of our mentors and youth with the intention of creating a long lasting friendship. All it takes is 8 hours per month of your time, doing activities you love!

What is a mentor? A mentor is an adult volunteer, 21 years or older, who wants to share activities with a youth for 8 hours a month. They meet regularly with the child and offer friendship, support and guidance. Mentors are required to make a minimum of a two year commitment.

How are mentors screened? We screen mentors carefully by requiring them to submit an application, 3 references, DataQuest (complete criminal background check, DMV check, and social security trace), an in-home interview, and an intensive training session. Every effort is made to ensure that the mentor is a mature, stable, positive role model, who can make and keep their commitment.

How do the children get matched with a mentor? We interview the youth and caregiver to find out likes/dislikes, interests and preferences of the youth. When a possible mentor is found for the child, program staff contacts the mentor, the caregiver and the child regarding information about each other. If each person feels like it would be a good match, a meeting is arranged and the match is finalized.

What Activities to Mentors and children do together? MCP is a community-based program. The child and mentor choose what sorts of activities to do based on their personal preferences. Some examples of activities include: going to movies, swimming, hiking, cooking, playing or watching sports, scrap-booking, helping with homework, shopping, and hanging out. Some matches have even gone rock-climbing!

If the chance to make a difference in the life of a youth interests you, consider becoming a mentor!

Contact Mentoring Children of Promise at mcp@voaww.org
(425)259-2973x2717
Volunteers of America Western Washington
