Originally galvanized steel, but they've been around a long time and are still strong and servicable. All open to air. About 7" tall of storage space in each drawer. If you take out a drawer you would have about 14" tall of storage space. Just depends on how big what you have to store, is. Originally used as chicken incubators. I metal brushed one and painted it with beige exterior house paint. The other two, which are as rusty as the first one was, unless you are going to use them for car parts, you can treat the same.
