Yes, it isn't right for a cop to transport beer or other liquor in his patrol car; that's a given.
But it is just fine for us to stop at Dierbergs or somewhere else on duty or off duty for that matter.
I went to Dierbergs today and bought food for my squad of guys. Why?? Because 9 of us have to work tomorrow afternoon answering calls while our families are at home. You (the general public) will be with family enjoying a wonderful dinner watching football. We won't even have a place to eat (except for a prepackaged sandwich at QT). So that's why I went to Dierbergs and bought food for my guys tomorrow. I plan on making a small meal for each of them and bringing it in, just to say thank you to my men (and women) who put their lives on the line everyday. Also, we don't get smoke breaks or lunch breaks or even bathroom breaks in our line of work. That's why we stop at the local gas station to use the john. BTW the owners of the local stores LOVE us to come in, why? Because the get robbed by shoplifters day in and out. Oh a little crime tip here; with th ebad economy theft from cars has sky-rocketed lately; so PLEASE don't leave valuables in plain sight in your car and lock your doors dumbasses!

WHY YOU SHOULD KEEP CONTRIBUTING TO YOUR 401(k)
A down market is no time to pull your money out or cut contributions.

presented by Ben Tutschulte, CFP®

With the way the market is behaving, you may be tempted to pull money out of your 401(k) right now or greatly reduce your contributions. If you’re considering such a move, please reconsider it.

Don’t stop saving for retirement. Even if you think you’re wealthy enough to forego putting money in your 401(k), you could end up seriously shortchanging your retirement savings potential by reducing your retirement plan balance or elective salary deferrals.

A 401(k) plan is a great retirement savings vehicle – and the fact is that most Americans have not saved enough for their retirement years. Additionally, if you withdraw money from a 401(k) plan before age 59½, you’ll face a 10% tax penalty (with few exceptions) and you may end up spending money today that could have enjoyed tax-deferred compounding in the future.1

Don’t expose more of your money to taxes. Usually, contributions to a 401(k) are tax-deductible.2 If you decide not to make those contributions, here’s a consequence: the IRS and your state government will claim more of your income. So you’ll wind up with less money in your wallet today and less money in your retirement account.

Don’t lose out on a match. Will your employer match your contributions – say, a dollar-for-dollar match on the first 3% of salary? If you make $60,000 per year, 3% is $1,800. Would you throw away $1,800 worth of free money each year? You shouldn’t, especially given that this money will grow tax-deferred.1

Do keep contributing steadily. It’s a good idea to keep up the dollar cost averaging and continue to make steady month-to-month or paycheck-to-paycheck salary deferrals. In all probability, this is central to your financial plan - and how will you amass the retirement savings you need if you stop contributing? Sure, there are other ways to build retirement savings, but dollar-cost-averaged contributions to a 401(k) represent a consistent, recurring way to get that job done.

If you contribute to your 401(k) plan through a dollar cost averaging approach, your investment dollar is buying shares at a lower price in this down market – and it is also buying more shares for your money. That could put you in a really good position when the market rebounds.

It’s a good idea to keep contributing even if you are falling behind financially. Should you pay down debts with your 401(k) assets? Only as a last resort. In fact, if you are looking at a bankruptcy or similar financial pressures, a 401(k) account is a really good place to put some of your money (the 2008 contribution limit is $15,500, with a $5,000 ceiling on additional “catch-up” contributions for workers 50 and older).3 Pension plan, IRA and 401(k) assets are protected in bankruptcy proceedings in most states.4

Do review your goals with your financial professional. Look at your time horizon. Look at your overall financial situation. Whether you are nearing retirement or far away from it, you will see that your 401(k) is a vital tool for pursuing your financial objectives. So don’t be discouraged by the short-term headlines; abide by your the long-term plan.

Ben Tutschulte, CFP® is a Representative with Tutschulte Financial Planning and may be reached at www.TutschulteFinancialPlanning.com, 314.682.2331 or Ben@TutschulteFinancialPlanning.com.

Securities and Investment Advisory services offered through Woodbury Financial Services, Inc., Member FINRA, SIPC and Registered Investment Advisor. I agree that child support should be paid, however, the lousey economy and lack of jobs has hit the guys that pay child support as well. When the non-custodial parent finds that they no longer have a job, there is no money to pay support. I am the wife of an unemployed man that pays support. We face the possibility of being homeless while the almost grown kids live quite well. The mother makes well over $800 a week and has a live in boyfriend paying in to the household. We; my husband, our baby, and myself have to make do on less than &200 weekly. Guess who won't get her child support 'till things change. A few weeks ago I went to the local Waterloo, IL Schnucks market to purchase a few things for my wife. As I entered the parking lot, I noticed a Waterloo City Police vehicle parked among the other private cars. I had guessed that an on-duty officer or an off-duty officer was probably shopping.

I know that the officers are permitted to use their Police cars for personal errands. What bothers me about this, is the fact that our economy is in such a financial problem, they are still allowed to use their cars at the taxpayers expense. They should be made to park them when not on duty to conserve money and taxpayer dollars.

Now....to really excite this issue, As i exited my car, I saw an off-duty officer exit the Schnucks (I know him personally) and was walking towards the parked Police car. In his hands were a plastic bag containing items, and under the opposite arm was a bag of charcoal for BBQ'ing and a 12 pack of BEER.... How the hell can this be permitted..... Transporting alcohol for personal use in a vehicle meant for the publics protection.

I guess I'm just pissed that my tax dollars are being misused by this department much of the time. They seem to think they are beyond the taxpayers concerns...

I'd like to see other post's regarding this matter of tax payer funding being abused!

Regards....A Waterloo, Illinois Tax Payer!!!

On November 12th I was abused by two St.Louis County

police officers who responded to my residence for a

disturbance between my live in girlfriend and myself. I

broke two of our windows which was the reason for the

call by my live in girlfriend. I had already left the

scene before the police arrived and returned upon seeing

the police at my residence. Immediatley upon approaching

the police, I identified myself and complied when

ordered to lay down on the ground. I was handcuffed and

questioned with no resistance. During the questioning

one officer called me a liar before I could fully

explain my account, and began swearing, laughing at me,

totally disregarding my statement. I informed him that I

knew that the most they could charge me with was peace

disturbance or some other relative misdemeanor. Then he

began telling me that he was going to charge me with

domestic assault causing me to violate my probation. He

was taunting me about "returning to my prison buddies"

and laughing. I informed him that would not be the

outcome and some other non violent banter ensued between

us. He was placed into the squad car without incident

while they questioned my girlfriend who informed them

that I had not physically harmed her. They persisted

that I did and she steadfastly denied the accussation.

This caused me to laugh and tell the officer "I told you

so." He then opened the car door and threatened to "beat

my ass". I told him to "take the cuffs off then". His

reaction was to grab my legs, pull me towards him and

then he began punching me with his fists in my stomach

and lower body. After repeated blows I attempted to kick

him off of me and landed maybe three of four kicks.

Another officer grabbed him off of me. Then the abusive

officer pulled me out of the car, slammed me to the

ground and then he and a third officer began punching,

kicking, and stomping me. My girlfriend tried to

intervene and an officer threatened to charge her with

"obstructing justice". (lol) I was swearing and grunting

out of pain, and told them that I was going to report

the abuse. I was then pepper sprayed and began yelling.

While totally incapacitated at this time and on the

ground, I was sprayed two more times. The beating left

me with a small knot on the back of my head, two badly

bruised fingers, scrapes, and body aches. Not to mention

the ever agonizing pain from the pepper spray. I asked

for medical assistance and to speak with a supervisor,

of course none of which happened. My girlfriend informed

them that she had seen the entire beating and they

stated that I caused it and they were doing what they

had to do. I was placed in the vehicle where I

repeatedly informed them that I wanted medical

attention. They refused again. Then the two abusing

officers spoke amongst themselves. One returned to the

squad car and asked was I on probation. I told him yes.

Then he said, "This is what we're going to do. I'm going

to take you to booking, and as long as you don't ask for

medical attention, I will not charge you with assaulting

two officers. I laughed and told him I was merely

defending myself. He then repeated his offer. I said ok

just to make it to booking safely. Now he was acting

like he was my friend and trying to conversate. On the

ride down, he repeatedly told me to deny medical

treatment no matter how many times they asked me. I

still had my cell phone in my pocket and recorded a part

of the conversation where I repeated his instructions,

and he confirmed them and finalized it by saying "No

hospital, no felony." Despite this, I still asked for

medical attention at St. Louis, County in Clayton and

was denied. I tried to tell an intake officer what

happened and was informed to "shut my mouth" and I would

be released soon. Of course I didn't shut up and was put

in a holding cell. Subsequently I was relased about six

hours later and charged with one count of property

destruction, and two counts of 3rd degree assault on law

enforcement. If you are interested in hearing the

recording of Officer Levy attempting to cover his

brutality, simply e-mail me and I will send you a copy.

Sounds like a complete ripoff to me.

I don't think modeling agencies or any honest business that hires people for promotions etc. ask for money upfront.

They do request photographs though, but they don't take them themselves, but I guess they can recomment someone, whatever, it's still the choice of the person who wants to be a model.

I know this because a friend of mine works part-time with Macy's for the catalog and in the store shows and she had to submit her own pictures before they would even give her an interview.
